Dear Friends, Every day at Schechter is comprised of individual moments of joy, inspiration, collaboration and accomplishment.
A
ccomplishment is the 5th-grader who reads Torah for the first time in front of their friends despite fears of failure. Collaboration is the teacher who helps a preschooler understand the importance of taking turns. Inspiration is the student who solves a math problem in an innovative way. Joy is the grandparent who attends a milestone event to bask in their grandchild’s growing understanding of the Hebrew language. These moments help to create a thriving and exciting culture of learning and self-discovery and are only made possible with the continued support of our community. Last year, we once again reached the Annual Campaign’s targeted goal of $1.4M. Comprising 11 percent of Schechter’s operating budget, the continued success of our Annual Campaign is critical to maintain Schechter’s strong fiscal health. The Annual Campaign allows us to invest in our teachers, our core academic program and, most notably, in financial aid. Schechter is committed to providing tuition assistance to help make a day school education affordable to all of its current families and to new families yet to come. In fact, over the past nine years, the percentage of students receiving aid has increased from 43% to 63% and our financial aid budget has doubled. We believe that every family who seeks a day school education for their children should be able to access one at Schechter. That is our sacred mission. Your investments in our academic program and community have strengthened and enhanced Schechter’s uniquely compelling program and has allowed us to: • invest in specialty instructional coaches in Hebrew and math • support teachers delivering our exceptional curriculum to all students, including a broad range of learners • make the Grade 8 Israel Study Tour, one of Schechter’s signature cornerstones, accessible to every student, regardless of financial need • hold Schechter’s first annual community Shabbaton, which welcomed 55 families (over 200 people!) to Camp Yavneh, who spent the weekend enjoying Shabbat-friendly activities, relaxing with friends and engaging in Jewish learning
• launch our Shabbat Across Schechter initiative in which families are brought together for a Shabbat meal in homes through our community. We are beyond grateful to our community members who give regularly of their expertise, and partner with us to coach Schechter Soccer, serve Chinese Lunch, refer a prospective family, volunteer in the library, offer their philanthropic support and so much more. When our community comes together – which it does every day, every year and in a multitude of ways that reflect each individual’s special ability to contribute – we are all the better for it. When we work together in these ways, there is no limit to better. So please accept this heartfelt thank you from both of us.

Schechter is committed to providing tuition assistance to help make a day school education affordable to all its families. Over the past 10 years, the percentage of students receiving aid has increased from 43% to 61% and the financial aid budget has doubled. In the 2018-2019 school year, the financial aid budget was $3,346,000 and the average award per student was $14,119. We believe that every family who seeks a day school education for their children should be able to access one at Schechter.
