THALAIVAA

Thalaivaa is Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s much anticipated film following the stupendous success of Thuppakki. The Kollywood superstar’s fans are raving about the slickly cut and stylishly presented trailer, which offers a tantalizing promise of what the film is all about. Vijay’s screen presence is legendary and his fans are thrilled to bits about his role in the film. Vijay has directed the cult hero in this film, which has been produced by Chandraprakash Jain of Sri Mishri Productions and distributed by Vendhar Movies in Tamil Nadu. With Amala Paul playing the leading lady, Santhanam, Sathyaraj and YG Mahendran also form a part of the star cast. Nirav Shah has cranked the camera while GV Prakash has scored the music for Thalaivaa. Members of director Vijay’s regular crew – production designer Selva Kumar and editor Anthony are also part of this film. Thalaivaa is being dubbed and released in Telugu as Anna – Born to Lead.

“THEATRE HAS MADE ME MORE DISCIPLINED” She is one of the few stars, who has acted in a limited number of Kannada movies, but has received widespread appreciation and acclaim for her roles. Meghana Gaonkar may be three years old in Sandalwood, but she has made a strong impression because of the kind of movies she has been part of. She commenced 2013 with a bang through Charminar, a romance directed by well-known filmmaker R Chandru. When he cast Prem and Meghana as the lead pair, critics initially pounced on the filmmaker, questioning his choice. But very soon, they were silenced by the performance of the two actors and by the movie itself, which opened the floodgates for Meghana. Conscious about her characterization, Meghana seems to be in no hurry to sign on too many films. She justifies her decision contending that she wants be part of only “quality cinema.” As a gifted dancer, Meghana has even worked with Shiamak Davar as an instructor; performed at the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Australia and has also written 18 short stories till date! “I REINVENT MYSELF CONSTANTLY EVERY DAY” Last year, when maverick filmmaker SS Rajamouli picked little-known Hindi actress Lavanya Tripathi for the female lead of Andala Rakshasi, which he coproduced, not many were aware of her in Tollywood. But just a year after the success of the movie, Lavanya has emerged as one of the fastest rising actresses and has even been nominated for several awards. Now, she is acting opposite Vishnu Manchu in Doosukeltha and is part of yet another untitled movie. She is also making her Tamil debut this year. The actress’ claim to fame was the Miss Uttarakhand title, which she bagged long ago. Aravind G Shivkamal caught up with her for this conversation.

His second film Current, which was a big musical hit earned him the ‘lover boy’ image. It is threatening to rain, as I drive to the Filmnagar temple for this very special interview. I enter the premises and wait for the man who gave Telegu cinema some of its biggest hits like Aaradhana, Dasara Bullodu, Annapurna and many others. My memory rushes back to my days as a school kid when I would sing the iconic Na Hrudayam Lo Nidurinche Cheli song from Aaradhana. The lilting symphony of the song comes to a halt as veteran producer VB Rajendra Prasad walks in, dressed in a white safari suit. I stand up immediately as a mark of respect to the 81-year old legend. “So you are from Southscope?� he enquires briskly, as a little prelude to our fascinating journey into the world of his films. Pothapragada Swarnalatha in conversation with the veteran producer, director and writer VB Rajendra Prasad.
