Madha Gaja Raja (MGR) a much-anticipated film from Sundar C, post his recent releases like Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru (TVSK) and Kalakalappu is “a result of sheer dedication and hard work,” according to the director. Vishal is the hero of the film, while Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar and Anjali play the female lead. Comedy superstar Santhanam, who has worked with Sundar C earlier as well, will be seen all through the film, according to the director. Sonu Sood plays the antagonist, while Sadaa will be seen in a special appearance. Sadagopan Ramesh, Prakash Raj and Nithin Sathyaa will also make their presence felt. Combining Vishal’s tryst with comedy, with a blend of action and romance, this family entertainer has been censored with a “U” certificate. INTENSE EMOTIONS Ever imagined how it would be if the Twilight saga were to be made in Tamil? Well, we did. It was a wild shot, but we have tried to recreate the heady and intense teenage romance starring two promising South Indian starlets –Gautham Karthik and Aishwarya Arjun. Take a look. And while we were at it, we asked both about their bond with their fathers and got warm, heartfelt responses. Love ‘em or hate ‘em (sometimes!), we always take comfort in the fact that our fathers are around – to guide us and guard us, turn taskmasters when need be and teach us to just go out and fight it out with the big bad world, yet be around to hold us and pick us up when we fall. And that’s no different for these two young and promising actors and whose fathers are powerhouses of talent themselves. In a candid and heartfelt chat with Shankaran Malini, these youngsters talk about their fathers with a mix of love, fondness and respect.

CELEBRATING

A CENTURY OF OUR YOUNGEST RELIGION 2013 celebrates a century since India began her love affair with motion pictures -- right from Dadasaheb Phalke or JC Daniel to the torchbearers of India’s new intrepid cinema, and not to mention the masses of the world’s second largest population, it has been a love affair that’s been strong and very, very passionate. On the 100th anniversary of Indian cinema, Southscope tries to scratch a little off the top of this massive iceberg.

When Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian Cinema, released his Raja Harishchandra on 3rd May 1913, there’s no way he would have imagined that the moment was giving birth to what would one " + There’s no doubt to the fact that we Indians love our cinema. Nevertheless, cinema has been one of the most unifying forms of expression this country has seen, and no less a religion in this country where politics and art sometimes have very blurry boundaries between each other since even before our Independence. Our stars are national heroes and endorsers of almost every product or utility that we use everyday. We entangle ourselves in their lives because in India, once you’re a star, you’re considered national property. Sometimes it’s a travesty, sometimes it’s entertainment and sometimes it’s propaganda. But Indian cinema has torred and tripped and has even re-invented itself from time to time, as individual units or in general character over the years. And at the end of the day, we still love our cinema and our stars. And that’s a love story that’s not going to end any time soon.
