The Sunday Celebration We are a growing Christian community celebrating and enacting the love of God through prayer and service in this neighbourhood. In our celebration today, we will try to be joyful and reflective, playful and reverent, as our thanksgiving for the new life which God gives us through Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit. Here is the shape of our service this morning: We gather together as a community of faith. We read the Word of God given to us in the Bible. We respond to the readings through silence, song and preaching. We break the bread and share the cup of wine. We take God’s love out into our lives and the world. Children are full members of our church and we welcome their presence and participation in our worship. If at any point you are unable to stand please feel free to be seated.

Prelude: Adagio Processional Hymn# 9 Today I Awake Today I awake and God is before me. At night, as I dreamt, he summoned the day; For God never sleeps, but patterns the morning With slithers of gold or glory in grey. Today I arise and Christ is beside me. He walked through the dark to scatter new light. Yes, Christ is alive, and beckons his people To hope and to heal, resist and invite. Today I affirm the Spirit within me At worship and work, in struggle and rest. The Spirit inspires all life which is changing From fearing to faith, from broken to blest. Today I enjoy the Trinity round me, Above and beneath, before and behind; The Maker, the Son, the Spirit together-They called me to life and call me their friend. The Gathering of the Community

First Reading: Genesis 45.3-11 Reader: A reading from the book of Genesis Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph. Is my father still alive?” But his brothers could not answer him, so dismayed were they at his presence. Then Joseph said to his brothers, “Come closer to me.” And they came closer. He said, “I am your brother, Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt. And now do not be distressed, or angry with yourselves, because you sold me here; for God sent me before you to preserve life. For the famine has been in the land these two years; and there are five more years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvest. God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for you many survivors. So it was not you who sent me here, but God; he has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house and ruler over all the land of Egypt. Hurry and go up to my father and say to him, ‘Thus says your son Joseph, God has made me lord of all Egypt; come down to me, do not delay. You shall settle in the land of Goshen, and you shall be near me, you and your children and your children’s children, as well as your flocks, your herds, and all that you have. I will provide for you there – since there are five more years of famine to come – so that you and your household, and all that you have, will not come to poverty.'” And he kissed all his brothers and wept upon them; and after that his brothers talked with him. Reader: The word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God. Psalm 37 (please remain seated) Trust in the Lord, and do what's good, And in the land you'll dwell secure. Be happy in the Lord, and he Will give you what your heart desires. Commit your way unto the Lord, Trust in him, and he will help you. God will save you, sure as the dawn, And vindicate sure as noonday. Be still and wait for God to act. Don't fret o'er those who prosper while They go about and do what's wrong. Refrain from anger and from wrath.

Tune: Tallis Canon

The Lord will save the righteous ones, In trouble he will keep them safe. The Lord helps them and rescues them, He saves them, for he shelters them. Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 15.35-38 Reader: A reading from the first letter of Paul to the Corinthians But someone will ask, “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body do they come?” Fool! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. And as for what you sow, you do not sow the body that is to be, but a bare seed, perhaps of wheat or of some other grain. But God gives it a body as he has chosen, and to each kind of seed its own body. Reader: The word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God. Gospel Acclamation:

Music: Traditional South African

The Holy Gospel: Luke 6.27-38 Presider: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you. Presider: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke All: Verse 2 sung: Glory to you Lord Jesus Christ! (x2) Alleluia (x4) Jesus said, “But I say to you that listen, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. If anyone strikes

you on the cheek, offer the other also; and from anyone who takes away your coat do not withhold even your shirt. Give to everyone who begs from you; and if anyone takes away your goods, do not ask for them again. Do to others as you would have them do to you. If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. If you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to receive as much again. But love your enemies, do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return. Your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. Do not judge, and you will not be judged; do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven; give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap; for the measure you give will be the measure you get back.” Presider: The Gospel of Christ. People: Verse 3 sung: Praise be to you Lord Jesus Christ! (x2) Alleluia (x4) Homily: The Reverend Michelle Childs-Ward The Apostle’s Creed: (Please stand) Presider: Let us confess the faith of our baptism, as we say, All: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. We have not loved you will our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen. Presider:Almighty God have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you in eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Offertory Hymn: # 372 Praise to the Holiest in the Height Praise to the Holiest in the height, and in the depth be praise, In all his words most wonderful, most sure in all his ways. O loving wisdom of our God! When all was sin and shame, A second Adam to the fight and to the rescue came.

O generous love! that flesh and blood, which did in Adam fail, Should strive afresh against the foe, should strive and should prevail; And that the highest gift of grace should flesh and blood refine, God's presence, and his very self, and essence all-divine; Who in the garden secretly, and on the cross on high, Should teach his followers, and inspire to suffer and to die. Praise to the Holiest in the height, and in the depth be praise, In all his words most wonderful, most sure in all his ways. Prayer Over the Gifts Eucharistic Prayer (please remain standing)

Presider: Blessed are you, gracious God, …. (the presider will sing one of the proper prefaces) … we raise our voices to proclaim the glory of your name. (We then sing verses 1-3 of the Sanctus following…)

Presider: We give thanks to you, Lord our God, for the goodness and love you have made known to us in creation; in calling Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through the prophets; and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus your Son. For in these last days you sent him to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the Saviour and Redeemer of the world. In him, you have delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to stand before you. In him, you have brought us out of error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life. On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, a death he freely accepted, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his friends and said, “Take, eat: this is my body which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.” After supper he took the cup of wine, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them and said, “Drink this, all of you: this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for all for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.” (After the words over the cup and the elevation of the chalice we sing the following…) People: (sing) (Verse 4) Glory be to you O Lord! Glory now and evermore! Hosanna in the highest! Presider: Therefore, Father, according to his command. People:we remember his death, we proclaim his resurrection, we await his coming in glory; Presider: and we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, Lord of all; presenting to you, from your creation, this bread and this wine. We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts, that they may be the sacrament of the body of Christ and his blood of the new covenant. Unite us to your Son in his sacrifice, that we, made acceptable in him, may be sanctified + by the Holy Spirit. In the fullness of time, reconcile all things in Christ, and make them new, and bring us to that city of light where you dwell with all your sons and daughters; through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head of the Church, and the author of our salvation; by

whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, almighty Father, now and for ever. People: (sing) (Verse 5) Glory be to you O Lord! Glory now and evermore! To you for evermore. Amen

The Lord’s Prayer BAS Page 211 Presider: And now, as our Saviour Christ has taught us, we are bold to pray, All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen The Breaking of the Bread Presider: “I am the bread of life” says the Lord. “Whoever comes to me will never be hungry; whoever believes in me will never thirst” People: Taste and see that the Lord is good; happy are those who trust in him! Song for the Breaking of Bread: Lamb of God

Presider: The gifts of God for the people of God. People: Thanks be to God. The Communion All who are baptized are welcome to receive the sacrament of communion in the Anglican Church; those who are not yet baptized are encouraged to come forward to the altar for a blessing – simply fold your arms across your chest as an indication

of your desire for a blessing. This invitation is extended to all – children and infants included. Music During Communion: Hymn #171 What Does the Lord Require What does the Lord require for praise and offering? What sacrifice, desire, or tribute bid you bring? Do justly; love mercy; walk humbly with your God. Rulers of earth, give ear! Should you not justice know? Will God your pleading hear, while crime and cruelty grow? Do justly; love mercy; walk humbly with your God. All who gain wealth by trade, for whom the worker toils, Think not to win God's aid, if greed your commerce soils. Do justly; love mercy; walk humbly with your God. How shall our life fulfill God's law so hard and high? Let Christ endue our will with grace to fortify. Then justly, in mercy, we'll humbly walk with God. Anthem: O Song unto the Lord Prayer After Communion

God is our strength and song, who makes salvation ours; Then be God's love in Christ proclaimed with all our ransomed powers.
