The Sunday Celebration We are a growing Christian community celebrating and enacting the love of God through prayer and service in this neighbourhood. In our celebration today, we will try to be joyful and reflective, playful and reverent, as our thanksgiving for the new life which God gives us through Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit. Here is the shape of our service this morning: We gather together as a community of faith. We read the Word of God given to us in the Bible. We respond to the readings through silence, song and preaching. We break the bread and share the cup of wine. We take God’s love out into our lives and the world. Children are full members of our church and we welcome their presence and participation in our worship. If at any point you are unable to stand please feel free to be seated.

First Reading: Exodus 34.29-35 Reader: A reading from the book of Exodus Moses came down from Mount Sinai. As he came down from the mountain with the two tablets of the covenant in his hand, Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God. When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, the skin of his face was shining, and they were afraid to come near him. But Moses called to them; and Aaron and all the leaders of the congregation returned to him, and Moses spoke with them. Afterwards all the Israelites came near, and he gave them in commandment all that the Lord had spoken with him on Mount Sinai. When Moses had finished speaking with them, he put a veil on his face; but whenever Moses went in before the Lord to speak with him, he would take the veil off, until he came out; and when he came out, and told the Israelites what he had been commanded, the Israelites would see the face of Moses, that the skin of his face was shining; and Moses would put the veil on his face again, until he went in to speak with him. Reader: The word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God. Psalm 92 (please remain seated) How good it is to thank you, Lord, To sing praise to your name, Most High, To tell each morn-ing of your love And each night of your faith-ful-ness With mu-sic from the lute and harp, With mel-o-dy up-on the lyre. Your might-y deeds, Lord, make me glad; Be-cause of them, I sing for joy. The right-eous flour-ish like palm trees, Like Leb-anon's ce-dars do they grow; They're plant-ed in the Lord's own house, And flour-ish in God's Tem-ple courts. They still bear fruit when they are old; They are still green and full of sap, To show that God is just in-deed, That my pro-tect-or does no wrong.
Tune: Tallis Canon
Second Reading: 2 Corinthians 3.12-4.2 Reader: A reading from the second letter of Paul to the Corinthians Since, then, we have such a hope, we act with great boldness, not like Moses, who put a veil over his face to keep the people of Israel from gazing at the end of the glory that was being set aside. But their minds were hardened. Indeed, to this very day, when they hear the reading of the old covenant, that same veil is still there, since only in Christ is it set aside. Indeed, to this very day whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their minds; but when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And all of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord, the Spirit. Therefore, since it is by God’s mercy that we are engaged in this ministry, we do not lose heart. We have renounced the shameful things that one hides; we refuse to practise cunning or to falsify God’s word; but by the open statement of the truth we commend ourselves to the conscience of everyone in the sight of God. Reader: The word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God. Gospel Acclamation:
The Holy Gospel: Luke 9.28-36 Presider: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you.
Music: Traditional South African
Presider: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke All: Verse 2 sung: Glory to you Lord Jesus Christ! (x2) Alleluia (x4) Now about eight days after these sayings Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. And while he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white. Suddenly they saw two men, Moses and Elijah, talking to him. They appeared in glory and were speaking of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. Now Peter and his companions were weighed down with sleep; but since they had stayed awake, they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. Just as they were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, ‘Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah’—not knowing what he said. While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were terrified as they entered the cloud. Then from the cloud came a voice that said, ‘This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!’ When the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and in those days told no one any of the things they had seen. Presider: The Gospel of Christ. People: Verse 3 sung: Praise be to you Lord Jesus Christ! (x2) Alleluia (x4) Homily: The Reverend Michelle Childs-Ward The Apostle’s Creed: (Please stand) Presider: Let us confess the faith of our baptism, as we say, All: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen The Prayers of the People: (Please stand or kneel as you prefer) Please respond to the petitions by singing “Lord hear our prayer”.

For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen. Presider:Almighty God have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you in eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Offertory Hymn: # 381 Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven Praise, my soul, the King of heaven; to his feet your tribute bring; Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven, evermore his praises sing. Alleluia, alleluia, praise the everlasting King.
Praise him for his grace and favour to our forebears in distress; Praise him, still the same forever, slow to chide and swift to bless; Alleluia, alleluia, glorious in his faithfulness. Fatherlike he tends and spares us; well our feeble frame he knows; In his hands he gently bears us, rescues us from all our foes: Alleluia, alleluia, widely as his mercy flows. Frail as summer's flower we flourish; blows the wind and it is gone; But, while mortals rise and perish, God endures unchanging on: Alleluia, alleluia, praise the high eternal one. Angels, help us to adore him; you behold him face to face; Sun and moon bow down before him, dwellers all in time and space. Alleluia, alleluia, praise with us the God of grace. Prayer Over the Gifts Eucharistic Prayer (please remain standing)
Presider: Blessed are you, gracious God, …. (the presider will sing one of the proper prefaces) … we raise our voices to proclaim the glory of your name. (We then sing verses 1-3 of the Sanctus following…)
Presider: We give thanks to you, Lord our God, for the goodness and love you have made known to us in creation; in calling Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through the prophets; and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus your Son. For in these last days you sent him to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the Saviour and Redeemer of the world. In him, you have delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to stand before you. In him, you have brought us out of error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life. On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, a death he freely accepted, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his friends and said, “Take, eat: this is my body which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.” After supper he took the cup of wine, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them and said, “Drink this, all of you: this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for all for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.” (After the words over the cup and the elevation of the chalice we sing the following…) People: (sing) (Verse 4) Glory be to you O Lord! Glory now and evermore! Hosanna in the highest! Presider: Therefore, Father, according to his command. People:we remember his death, we proclaim his resurrection, we await his coming in glory;
Presider: and we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, Lord of all; presenting to you, from your creation, this bread and this wine. We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts, that they may be the sacrament of the body of Christ and his blood of the new covenant. Unite us to your Son in his sacrifice, that we, made acceptable in him, may be sanctified + by the Holy Spirit. In the fullness of time, reconcile all things in Christ, and make them new, and bring us to that city of light where you dwell with all your sons and daughters; through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head of the Church, and the author of our salvation; by whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, almighty Father, now and for ever. People: (sing) (Verse 5) Glory be to you O Lord! Glory now and evermore! To you for evermore. Amen The Lord’s Prayer BAS Page 211 Presider: And now, as our Saviour Christ has taught us, we are bold to pray, All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen The Breaking of the Bread Presider: “I am the bread of life” says the Lord. “Whoever comes to me will never be hungry; whoever believes in me will never thirst” People: Taste and see that the Lord is good; happy are those who trust in him! Song for the Breaking of Bread: Lamb of God

The Communion All who are baptized are welcome to receive the sacrament of communion in the Anglican Church; those who are not yet baptized are encouraged to come forward to the altar for a blessing – simply fold your arms across your chest as an indication of your desire for a blessing. This invitation is extended to all – children and infants included. Music During Communion: Hymn # 510 You Have Passed By You have passed by, you came like fire that lights the skies; Sparks falling from your name glow in our hearts like eyes. In tatters hangs your word, draped round our world and torn; Now we shall live in you; like clothing you are worn. You have passed by, as brief as footprints on the sea; Why did you go so far? You went too far for me. You are forever now as deep in God as breath; No stillness captures you, unthinkable your death. You have passed by, a strange and yet familiar face, A fragment of our being, a flickering light, a trace. Your light is in my blood, my body is your day; I hope my whole life long to meet you on the way. Anthem: Psalm 150 Prayer After Communion
