Martin Luther compared the invention of the printing press in 1450 to “the flickering of the flame that burns before the end of this age.” He was one of the few to realize that he was living through a revolution – one that would give birth to a new world, much in the same way as today’s digital revolution is radically transforming ours. This illustrated presentation will look at some of the key moments of intersection between the press and the Reformation, and will suggest that in order to understand what is happening to our society today, one can look back to those tumultuous moments five hundred years ago for some
answers.
