The Sunday Celebration We are a growing Christian community celebrating and enacting the love of God through prayer and service in this neighbourhood. In our celebration today, we will try to be joyful and reflective, playful and reverent, as our thanksgiving for the new life which God gives us through Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit. Here is the shape of our service this morning: We gather together as a community of faith. We read the Word of God given to us in the Bible. We respond to the readings through silence, song and preaching. We break the bread and share the cup of wine. We take God’s love out into our lives and the world. Children are full members of our church and we welcome their presence and participation in our worship. If at any point you are unable to stand please feel free to be seated.

Processional Hymn: # 350 Stand Up and Bless the Lord Stand up and bless the Lord, you people of God's choice; Stand up and bless the Lord of hosts with heart and soul and voice. Though high above all praise, above all blessing high, Who would not fear God's holy name, and laud and magnify? O for the living flame from God's own altar brought, To touch our lips, our minds inspire, and wing to heaven our thought! God is our strength and song, who makes salvation ours; Then be God's love in Christ proclaimed with all our ransomed powers. Stand up and bless the Lord; the Lord your God adore; Stand up and bless the glorious name henceforth for evermore. The Apostolic Greeting Presider: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. People: And also with you.

Presider: Almighty God, People: to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hidden. Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. Song of Praise: Gloria in Excelsis

Prayer of the Day The Proclamation of the Word of God (please be seated) First Reading: 1 Samuel 1.4-20 A reading from the first book of Samuel On the day when Elkanah sacrificed, he would give portions to his wife Peninnah and to all her sons and daughters; but to Hannah he gave a double portion, because he loved her, though the Lord had closed her womb. Her rival used to provoke her severely, to irritate her, because the Lord had closed her womb. So it went on year by year; as often as she went up to the house of the Lord, she used to provoke her. Therefore Hannah wept and would not eat. Her husband Elkanah said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep? Why do you not eat? Why is your heart sad? Am I not more to you than ten sons? After they had eaten and drunk at Shiloh, Hannah rose and presented herself before the

Lord. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat beside the doorpost of the temple of the Lord. She was deeply distressed and prayed to the Lord, and wept bitterly. She made this vow: “O Lord of hosts, if only you will look on the misery of your servant, and remember me, and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a male child, then I will set him before you as a nazirite until the day of his death. He shall drink neither wine nor intoxicants, and no razor shall touch his head.” As she continued praying before the Lord, Eli observed her mouth. Hannah was praying silently; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard; therefore Eli thought she was drunk. So Eli said to her, “How long will you make a drunken spectacle of yourself? Put away your wine.” But Hannah answered, “No, my lord, I am a woman deeply troubled; I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I have been pouring out my soul before the Lord. Do not regard your servant as a worthless woman, for I have been speaking out of my great anxiety and vexation all this time.” Then Eli answered, “Go in peace; the God of Israel grant the petition you have made to him.” And she said, “Let your servant find favour in your sight.” Then the woman went to her quarters, ate and drank with her husband, and her countenance was sad no longer. They rose early in the morning and worshipped before the Lord; then they went back to their house at Ramah. Elkanah knew his wife Hannah, and the Lord remembered her. In due time Hannah conceived and bore a son. She named him Samuel, for she said, “I have asked him of the Lord.” Reader: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God! People:

To you I lift up my eyes, to you enthroned in heavens. As the eyes of the servants look to the hands of their master, and the eyes of the maid to the hand of her mistress. How blessed are the poor… So our eyes look to the Lord our God, until he show us his mercy. Have mercy upon us, o Lord, have mercy, for we have had enough of contempt. How blessed are the poor…

Second Reading: Hebrews 10.11-14, 19-25 A reading from the letter to the Hebrews And every priest stands day after day at his service, offering again and again the same sacrifices that can never take away sins. But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, “he sat down at the right hand of God,” and since then has been waiting “until his enemies would be made a footstool for his feet.” For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are sanctified. Therefore, my friends, since we have confidence to enter the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain (that is, through his flesh), and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us approach with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who has promised is faithful. And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Reader: The Word of the Lord People: Thanks be to God (Please keep a period of silence for reflection.) Gospel Acclamation: (Please stand)

Holy Gospel: Mark 13.1-8 Reader: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Reader: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark People: Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ! As Jesus came out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Look, Teacher, what large stones and what large buildings!” Then Jesus asked him, “Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone will be left here upon another; all will be thrown down.” When he was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked him privately, “Tell us, when will this be, and what will be the sign that all these things are about to be accomplished?” Then Jesus began to say to them, “Beware that no one leads you astray. Many will come in my name and say, ‘I am he!’ and they will lead many astray. When you hear of wars and rumours of wars, do not be alarmed; this must take place, but the end is still to come. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. This is but the beginning of the birth pangs.” Reader: The Gospel of Christ People: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ!

Sermon: The Reverend Canon Dr. Andrew Sheldon (After the sermon, please keep a period of silence for reflection.)

The Prayers of the People: Please respond to the petitions by singing “hear us Lord of glory.”

The Peace: (Please stand) Presider: The peace of the Lord be always with you! People: And also with you! The Celebration of the Eucharist We share God’s banquet of love for this community of faith Offertory Hymn: # 529 God, My Hope on You Is Founded (Please join in singing) God, my hope on you is founded; you my faith and trust renew: through all change and chance you guide me, only good and only true. God unknown, you alone call my heart to be your own. Human pride and earthly glory, sword and crown, betray our trust; though with care and toil we build them, tower and temple fall to dust. But your power, hour by hour, is my temple and my tower. Daily does the almighty Giver bounteous gifts on us bestow; God's desire for us delights us, pleasure leads us where we go. Here at hand, love takes stand, joy awaits God's sure command. God's great goodness lasts forever, deepest wisdom, passing thought: splendour, light, and life attending, beauty springing out of naught. Evermore from God's store new-born worlds rise and adore. Still from earth to God eternal sacrifice of praise be done, high above all praises praising for the gift of Christ the Son. Christ, you call one and all; those who follow shall not fall.

Prayer Over the Gifts

Eucharistic Prayer 3

Presider: Blessed are you, gracious God, …. (the presider will sing one of the proper prefaces) … we raise our voices to proclaim the glory of your name. (We then sing verses 1-3 of the Sanctus following…)

Presider: We give thanks to you, Lord our God, for the goodness and love you have made known to us in creation; in calling Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through the prophets; and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus your Son. For in these last days you sent him to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the Saviour and Redeemer of the world. In him, you have delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to stand before you. In him, you have brought us out of error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life. On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, a death he

freely accepted, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his friends and said, “Take, eat: this is my body which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.” After supper he took the cup of wine, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them and said, “Drink this, all of you: this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for all for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.” (After the words over the cup and the elevation of the chalice we sing the following…) th People: (sing 4 verse) Glory, glory, glory! Glory be to you O Lord! Glory, glory, glory! Hosanna in the highest! Presider: Therefore, Father, according to his command. People: we remember his death, we proclaim his resurrection, we await his coming in glory; Presider: and we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, Lord of all; presenting to you, from your creation, this bread and this wine. We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts, that they may be the sacrament of the body of Christ and his blood of the new covenant. Unite us to your Son in his sacrifice, that we, made acceptable in him, may be sanctified + by the Holy Spirit. In the fullness of time, reconcile all things in Christ, and make them new, and bring us to that city of light where you dwell with all your sons and daughters; through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head of the Church, and the author of our salvation; by whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, almighty Father, now and for ever. People: (sing 5th verse) Glory, glory, glory! Glory be to you O Lord! Glory, glory, glory! Amen, Amen! The Lord’s Prayer Presider: And now, as our Saviour Christ has taught us, we are bold to pray, All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver

us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. The Breaking of the Bread Presider: We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. All: We, being many, are one body, for we all share in the one bread. Song for the Breaking of Bread: Bread of Life

Choir: As we proclaim your death, as we recall your life, we remember your promise to return again. People: Bread of life, hope of the world … Choir: The bread we break and share was scattered once as grain: just as now it is gathered, make your people one. People: Bread of life, hope of the world … Choir: We eat this living bread, we drink this saving cup: sign of hope in our broken world, source of lasting love. People: Bread of life, hope of the world … Choir: Hold us in unity, in love for all to see; that the world may believe in you, God of all who love. People: Bread of life, hope of the world … Choir: You are the bread of peace, you are the wine of joy, Broken now for your people, poured in endless love. People: Bread of life, hope of the world … Presider: The gifts of God for the people of God. People: Thanks be to God. (please be seated)

The Communion: All who are baptized are welcome to receive Holy Communion. Those not receiving communion are welcome to receive a blessing. Please cross your hands over your chest to indicate this to the priest. Communicants who do not wish to drink from the chalice should not dip the bread into the cup. Instead, after eating the bread, cross your hands over your chest as the chalice bearer passes by, or make a sign of reverence by gently touching the base of the cup. Gluten free wafers are available from the acolyte standing at the center of the altar rail. Those drinking from the cup are asked to assist the minister by grasping it at the base and guiding it to their lips. Music during Communion: Hymn: # 318 Rejoice Today with One Accord Rejoice today with one accord, sing out with exultation; Rejoice and praise our mighty Lord, whose arm hath brought salvation. His works of love proclaim the greatness of his name, For he is God alone who hath his mercy shown; Let all his saints adore him! When in distress to him we cried, he heard our sad complaining. O trust in him, whate'er betide; his love is all-sustaining. Triumphant songs of praise to him our hearts shall raise; Now every voice shall say, "O praise our God alway"; Let all his saints adore him! Choir Anthem: Dear Lord and Father
