A Message from the Academy President - Bill Barrett Dear St. Mary’s Academy Community, Welcome to the 2020 Gala, That ‘70s Gala! We are so excited to share this event with you in support of our wonderful school and community. I’d like to extend a special thank you to our Gala Chair, Andrea Morrissette. For the third year in a row, Andrea’s leadership and dedication to SMA has helped in making this event a reality. Thank you also to Rebecca Hommertzheim, our Co-Chair and future Gala Chair, for all of her hard work and support. In addition, I want to express my heartfelt thanks to all of our volunteers and donors, and our amazing Advancement Team, led by Charlie Arbogast, who will be retiring after twenty-three years of service to our school. This event would simply not be possible without the enormous contributions of so many individuals. Thank you!!

Your donations support tuition assistance and program resources at St. Mary’s Academy. Nearly thirty percent of our students benefit from over $2 million in need based tuition assistance each year. Program resources are enhanced, based on the needs identified by our three school Principals and myself, thanks to the generosity of our Gala sponsors, donors and winning bidders! Thus we graciously encourage you to bid early and bid often.

Although the theme of our Gala changes each year, taking the time to come together as a community is a constant and perhaps never more important than this year. We have been tested in a time of uncertainty, and the manner in which we have supported one another is a remarkable testament to the strength of our school. Whether we gather physically, as we have done in the past, or together as a virtual community, as we may do April 24, it is important that we take the time to celebrate and support the amazing things happening at St. Mary’s Academy. A Message from the Board of Trustees Chair - Jean Armstrong Dear Members of the St. Mary’s Academy Community, Welcome to That 70’s Gala!

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to thank you for supporting our Gala. This annual tradition gives us the opportunity to come together as a community (virtually or in person) and celebrate all of the exciting things happening at SMA. We are grateful for everyone that makes up our community - including parents past and present, grandparents, alumnae, faculty, staff and administration as well as the many friends of the Academy.

Your generous financial support of the Gala benefits Tuition Assistance and Program Resources for our students and faculty. Last year’s Gala raised a record $388,000 and your generosity this year will enable us to continue to provide a high quality education with tuition assistance to approximately 30% of our students who would otherwise be unable to attend our wonderful school.

The Board of Trustees and I would like to thank Andrea Morrissette, our Gala Chair, Rebecca Hommertzheim, Gala Co-Chair, Lea Frank, our Advancement Events Coordinator and their amazing team. Thanks also to the staff, donors and volunteers whose dedication and hard work will guarantee that this year’s Gala will once again be a tremendous success. I especially want to thank Charlie Arbogast, our Director of Advancement, for over 20 years of leadership and dedication to SMA-we will miss you and we would not be where we are today without you! A message from the Gala Chair - Andrea Morrissette Dear St. Mary’s Academy Families and Friends, Welcome to That 70’s Gala!

As you all know St. Mary’s Academy is an extraordinary place and the Gala presents a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our community and give back to our students and school.

Your financial support of the Gala provides the ability for students to attend St. Mary’s Academy as well as supports program resources that benefit all students at St. Mary’s Academy.

I would like to extend my gratitude to all of our generous Gala sponsors and the many volunteers that have given there time financial support and creativity that help make this evening special. Lea Frank deserves an enormous applause as she has been instrumental in all of the strategic planning of this event. Special thanks to Chris and Rhondi Clark whose daughter Chloi graduates May 16, 2020. Chris and Rhondi have volunteered for over a decade at the Gala and are the reason our check out system at the end of the night runs so smoothly. Last but certainly not least, thank you to Charlie Arbogast who has spent 23 years of service and leadership to SMA’s Advancement Committee and our community as a whole. That ‘70s Gala Testimonial Mahlet Zegeye is a recent St. Mary’s Academy graduate from the Class of 2019. She began her academic journey in the first grade at SMA in 2007. During her time at SMA, she participated in Orchestra, the Mouse Mischief program, National Honor Society, and SMAbotics.

“As a first generation student and immigrant, I did not realize nor believe I would get as far as I have. I am very grateful for the opportunity St. Mary’s Academy provided me. SMA took me into their family and provided me assistance, both financially and academically. St. Mary’s Academy helped me become the person I am today.”

TUITION ASSISTANCE The majority of the money raised at the Gala supports the SMA Tuition Assistance Fund. In the 2019-2020 school year, SMA is providing nearly $2 million in tuition assistance to over 27% of our students, allowing us to maintain a diverse school community, representative of the larger world we live in and the diverse global workforce our students will enter.

What you might not know about tuition assistance at SMA:

• SMA follows Principles of Good Practices for Tuition Assistance from NAIS (National

Association of Independent Schools)

• SMA uses SSS (School and Student Services) to have a uniform method to measure the ability of

families to pay education costs.

• Recipients of Tuition Assistance

*NEED Based Tuition Assistance

• Available to both boys and girls in grade levels K-12

• Each family must re-apply for tuition assistance each year – it is not automatically

awarded from year to year

• Awards range from 10 percent tuition to over 90 percent

*MERIT Based Tuition Assistance – High School Merit Scholars

• Available to girls in grades 9 -12

• Awarded to 10 high school girls per grade each year

• Merit based scholarships are $3,500 annually

• St. Mary’s Academy was founded in 1864, and in 1875 awarded the first High School diploma in the Colorado Territory.

• Nearly $2 million in tuition assistance was awarded this year to students across the Academy. Tuition assistance benefits approximately 25% of SMA students, boys and girls, PK - 12th grade.
