Funky Folk Rhythm Guitar

Used by beatboxers, percussionists, rappers, songwriters and musicians from many different genres, the loop pedal can turn one player into a band, layering rhythms, harmonies and effects under the control of a live solo performer. This workshop is an introduction into using, arranging and performing into a loop pedal, and basic concepts and theories of looping. The workshop will also look at some of the more popular models of looper, and explain the pros and cons, along with technical advice such as set up, equipment and general live/studio troubleshooting. Although looping is generally a solitary art, for technical and teaching reasons this workshop is based around group working with one pedal. Everyone will have a chance to control the pedal and lead the music, as the group tries out themes and patterns to show how to build an improvised performance. The workshop is open to musicians from different genres and suitable for any acoustic instruments with pick-up (built in or attached). No amplifiers please. Vocalists are also welcome (microphone provided). No previous loop pedal experience is needed, but you must be reasonably confident on your instrument or voice and have an understanding of chords and keys. Please contact education@stables.org if you have any questions about your experience or instrument suitability for this workshop. The workshop will be led by Dan Turnbull a.k.a. Funke and the Two Tone Baby, an alternative, blues-fusion one-man-band. Dan combines loop and effects pedals, beatboxing and grooving bass lines with traditional instrumentation, to create his own unique sound. Dan has performed more than 300 shows and festivals across the UK and Europe, and led loop pedal workshops for schools and festivals.
