Her recordings feature contributions from Chris Lynch and Ben Berry (Marty O’Reilly & The Old Soul Orchestra) as well as Erin Chapin (Rainbow Girls). A veteran of Latitude and Wilderness Festivals, Essexbased Kevin Pearce has been quietly chipping away at his career and has unleashed a fine new album on the world – So On – which was released in December last year. Bella Hardy, acclaimed songwriter and traditional music luminary, released Hey Sammy in 2017, a record that bears the stamps of extensive musical expeditions far from home. Humanist hymns, ancient Chinese poems, feminist battle cries and the title track’s reflections on the rise of racism in Britain make this her most widereaching and richly rewarding album to date. This autumn, Bella takes to the road with only her two fiddles and harmonium for company, stripping back the instrumentation from her latest record to return the songs to their newly written forms. bellahardy.com Luke Daniels & Nancy Kerr

Questions are welcome at all times and professional support is on hand throughout the day. Participants should have attended The Stables’ Introduction to Live Sound Engineering Level 1 and/or be familiar with the operation and functions of a live sound desk, a graphic equaliser, effect units and stage monitors. You will focus on recording and production rather than just creating within the software and you’ll be able to take away audio files of tracks produced to further practice the skills you’ve learned. If you play an instrument, please bring it along for the afternoon recording session to learn how best to record it. (A Part 2 follow-on workshop on 12 January 2019 will look in more detail at studiobased recording and production.)

Previous attendance at Ukulele Beginners Part 1 is recommended and you will need to bring a soprano or concert-sized ukulele.

There will be a small amount of playing on the day at a level suitable for absolute beginners – if you have a guitar, bring it along. Some guitars will be available for you to try on the day.
