DECEMBER JIM MARSHALL AUDITORIUM 4
All ticket prices are inclusive of booking fees
written by Mike Kenny
produced by tutti frutti productions Dates: Tuesday 21 December 2021- Sunday 2 January 2022
The audience meet a demanding queen, an array of wannabe princesses and our two main characters: an unknown girl who is blown into the palace by a gust of wind and an indecisive prince under pressure to find his real princess. Will he ever find a real princess or his happy-ever-after? In this new and updated adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s popular story, Mike Kenny and the inventive tutti frutti team once again create a funny, original, beautiful retelling of this familiar tale.

Wednesday 6 October, 8pm £29.50
Friday 8 October, 8pm £22.50
Back in 1972, Graham Gouldman was a founder member of 10cc. The band enjoyed a string of hits, including three number ones: Rubber Bullets, I’m Not In Love and Dreadlock Holiday. It’s the enduring popularity of these tracks and Graham’s love of playing songs acoustically that led to the formation of Heart Full of Songs. The show features many of 10cc’s greatest hits, as well as Bridge To Your Heart (from Graham’s time in Wax) and material from his acclaimed solo album Love And Work.
Having hit 60 (but still a year younger than Madonna), Jenny Eclair aka The Face of Vagisan confronts a new decade of decrepitude. What will her 60s hold for this 1960s babe, and is it a legal requirement to buy Nordic walking poles? PS: “I’m carrying quite a lot of excess lockdown weight, which you can feel free to discuss behind my back during the interval. Love Jenny x”

Churchfitters Thursday 16 December, 8.45pm £20.50
Steve Winch & The Inception are a high octane, retro-fuelled shot of adrenaline. Inspired by mod fashion and culture, punk attitude and 1960s melodies and harmonies, Steve and the band have recently released their debut album Down At The Soul Dispensary which is available digitally and on vinyl LP.
Why Churchfitters? Nobody knows! They’re not fitters and have absolutely nothing to do with churches. The name’s origin is lost in the mists of time but there is one aspect that suits them perfectly: quirkiness. When your array of instruments includes a motorcycle petrol tank, a musical saw and a Mercedes Benzouki made from hubcaps, there’s little point worrying if the name makes sense!

Get Started With DADGAD
Adult/15+ Workshop
Adult/15+ Workshop
Saturday 4 December, 10am-4pm £34
Sunday 5 December, 1.30-4.30pm £25
Have you ever wanted to have a go on the guitar but are not sure where to start? Or maybe you’d like to buy one but you’re not sure what to look for? This workshop aims to give absolute beginners a great starting point, with lots of information and advice, including how to start playing and practicing, and advice on buying a guitar and avoiding costly mistakes.
This workshop will explore DADGAD guitar tuning and its application for backing traditional folk tunes and songs. DADGAD is a widely used open tuning and a feature of traditional English, Scottish and Irish music. This workshop is designed for intermediate guitar players who already play in ‘standard’ tuning but would like to explore a new sound. We will first look at some basic chord shapes and learn how to back a tune. Along the way we will learn some basic music theory and how it applies to traditional music, and some tricks of the trade to make your backing more exciting. Players need to be reasonably confident playing chords and chord changes in standard tuning, accompanying songs or dance tunes with different strumming patterns, but no previous experience of DADGAD tuning is needed. If you are not sure that your playing experience is suitable contact education@ stables.org for further advice before booking. You’ll need to bring an acoustic guitar, a capo and clip on guitar tuner.
You’ll learn about the different parts of the guitar, tuning, ‘open’ chords, understanding ‘tab’, using a capo, and how to strum to simple songs, as well as useful ‘non-playing exercises’ to help develop playing technique. There will be a small amount of playing on the day at a level suitable for absolute beginners – if you have a guitar, bring it along. Some guitars will be available for you to try on the day.
Bodhrán Beginners Adult/15+ Workshop Sunday 5 December, 9.30am-12.30pm £25 The bodhrán (pronounced bow-ran) or Irish frame drum has grown from its use in traditional Irish music to become a popular instrument used across many forms of Celtic, folk and contemporary roots music. Accessible Toilets
There are three accessible public toilets – one as part of the main toilet area situated in the foyer; further toilets are located next to the ladies and within the gents, both accessible from the auditorium.
Facilities for Hearing Impaired Customers
The Stables has free car-parking on site (vehicles and contents are left entirely at owner’s own risk). At busy times, your exit from the car park may be slightly delayed – thank you for your patience. There are a limited amount of disabled parking spaces available (not bookable in advance). We also have a small bicycle rack available to the left of the main public entrance.
The main auditorium is fitted with an Ampetronic system. To use this system you must have a hearing aid with either a switchable or auto-detect T-Setting built in. Stage 2 customers will need to wear a hearing necklace, available from the box office. If you wear a hearing device please inform a member of the box office team when booking your tickets so that they can seat you in the area of the auditorium where the signal is strongest.
