Date: Thursday 20 November, 8pm

Çiˇgdem is a rising star in the revival of rebetiko, the bitter-sweet, devil-may-care songs of an exiled underclass, sung in hash dens and café aman music houses of Athens, Piraeus and Istanbul of the turbulent 1920s. Trio Da Kali (Mali)

Date: Friday 27 February 2015, 8pm

The three musicians of Trio Da Kali hail from the Mande culture of Mali, from a heritage of distinguished griots, the caste of specialist hereditary musical artisans. Their performances offer a rare glimpse into the soul of the art of the griot, celebrating the African continent’s finest, most subtle and sublime music. The trio’s performance revolves around the soaring, rounded vibrato voice of Hawa Kassé Mady. Few can match the lyricism and dazzling virtuosity of Lassana Diabaté on the balafon, while Mamadou Kouyaté completes the trio with punchy bass lines on the ngoni, West Africa’s oldest string instrument.

Mariana Sadovska (Ukraine)

Date: Saturday 18 April 2015, 8pm

Singer, actress and composer Mariana Sadovska crosses all borders: archaic midsummer night invocations, wedding songs and migrant chants from remote villages of rural Ukraine all take a singular turn and transmute into contemporary sound that spans from folk to avant-garde. For this tour she has teamed up with German percussionist and electronica specialist Christian Thomé, creating an ever-changing collage of ancient Ukrainian folk songs and contemporary electro-acoustic sounds. www.marianasadovska.de

This award-winning play allows us to empathise with the state of being, called dementia, taking its audience on an illuminating, at times funny, adventure into the wilds of the mind of an old actor who has been cut loose from society by a fading memory. The play says as much about the mind in old age as it does about how society perceives and behaves towards people with dementia. Sponsored by Marcus Jordan & Co www.aneveningwithdementia.co.uk

Look forward to a mix of Peter’s original songs and his take on some of the classic songs of yesteryear. www.peterwhite.com

As part of Glyndebourne’s popular Performances for Schools programme, writer, cartoonist and director Sarah Lenton has created a new production introducing primary school students in Key Stage 2 to the joys of opera. We start where opera starts, in 1604 with Monteverdi’s Orfeo. This is the piece in which Eurydice – the wife of Orfeo – gets killed by a snake and Orfeo descends to the Underworld to get her back. He fails, but the tunes were so good, you can see why opera took off. And then we go on a whistle stop journey down the centuries, clocking up The Magic Flute, The Barber of Seville, Verdi’s The Force of Destiny and Wagner’s Siegfried. Mostly Autumn

Date: Wednesday 10 December, 8pm Tickets: £23.50

Date: Sunday 14 December, 8pm Tickets: £16.50 (£17.50 on the door)

If music matures like fine wine, 1979 was a vintage year. That’s when Paul Jones and Tom McGuinness, from the hugely successful Manfred Mann, returned to their first love, the Blues. They imagined their ‘back to the roots’ project, The Blues Band, would simply earn some beer money. How wrong they were – the public were ready and waiting. And into the ranks came slide guitar ace and superb vocalist Dave Kelly, legendary ex-John Mayall drummer Hughie Flint (replaced in 1982 by the renowned Rob Townsend of Family), with solid bass provided by Gary Fletcher. www.thebluesband.com

Since forming back in 1996, Mostly Autumn have built a loyal following. They have earned themselves a name for their outstanding live shows and such luminaries as the late Richard Wright, Deep Purple’s Jon Lord and Bob Harris himself are amongst their many fans. Their musical palette is diverse and while they draw on influences from the golden age of 1970s rock, they have developed their own unique sound and style that both captures some of the essence of that heady era and yet looks forward into the future. www.mostly-autumn.com

Contemporary UK blues-rock band Albany Down came together with some classic rock and Brit blues-rock influences, but with their 2011 debut album, South of the City, they found their own sound. They now step up to the plate with 12 original well-crafted songs on their formidable new album Not Over Yet. The band’s big Zeppelin-influenced sound draws from the same British blues-rock well that gave Zeppelin a head start all those years ago and later was rediscovered by Joe Bonamassa. But it’s the resonant substance of the band’s own songs and their exuberant style that gives the new album its edge.
