Magic: A Kind of Queen
Lindisfarne
Date: Saturday 12 December, 8pm Tickets: £21
Date: Tuesday 15 December, 8pm Tickets: £27.50 & £25*
Magic, the first and still the best tribute to Queen, perform all the band’s greatest hits plus some you may not have heard for a while. With five vocals to back up the powerful lead vocal of the dynamic Roger Brown, Magic create all the complex harmonies that are Queen’s trademark recording sound. This, along with two guitars, bass, drums and the brilliant piano and keyboard skills of Dave Chapman, produces a sound that is second to none. Magic creates all the excitement of a Queen live show – not to be missed. magicakindofqueen.co.uk
Formed in 1970, Lindisfarne are widely regarded as one of the UK’s greatest folk-rock bands. The unpretentious style of the Tyneside tunesmiths and their effortless connection with audiences came as a breath of fresh air in a jaded scene. The band has enjoyed many highs and lows over the years, but in recent years a successful series of concerts at Newcastle’s City Hall, which recreate the Christmas shows of their 80s heyday, has given fresh impetus to the band. We’re delighted to welcome them back for a special one-off gig after an absence of more than 10 years from The Stables. *This is a fundraising performance for Wavendon All Music Plan

Possibly the best soul revue of its kind in Europe! Backed by a powerhouse band that includes a mighty brass section, the cast of boy and girl singers truly do justice to the phenomenon that is soul. From Reach Out I’ll Be There and Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone to Ain’t No Mountain High Enough and, of course, Signed, Sealed, Delivered, this varied show takes you on a journey celebrating the music of Stevie Wonder, The Four Tops, The Temptations and The Supremes as well as many others who defined the soul era.
There was a long personal and professional connection between Dave Brubeck, Sir John Dankworth and Dame Cleo Laine, and John and Cleo’s son, the virtuosic bass player Alec Dankworth was Brubeck’s regular bass player for a number of years. Darius (piano), Chris (bass and trombone) and Dan (drums) together with UK sax star Dave O’Higgins will perform their father’s famous hits, but they continue adding music from the family repertoire. Critics and audiences alike respond to the personal involvement, musical interplay and joy on stage as the group performs music created by one of American music’s all-time greats. *This is a fund-raising performance for Wavendon Allmusic Plan Ltd

Jinder is an artist most often described as ‘the songwriter’s songwriter’. Having plied his trade in relative obscurity for 17 years and nine artfully constructed albums, his music is adored by those in the know, often drawing comparisons with fellow shadow-dwelling denizens such as Bill Fay and Townes Van Zandt. 2015’s exquisite album Traditional Dark is a deeply personal, ethereal work, walking a faintly etched line between acoustic sadcore and alternative country/folk. Support comes from critically acclaimed songsmith Peter James Millsom, whose superb forthcoming second album True And False, produced by Boo Hewerdine, is due for release in 2016. jinder.co.uk Like this? From Singer To Artist with Joanna Eden Adult/16+ Course Dates: Saturday 19 March, 2-4pm Course fee: £ 22
A very special opportunity for emerging and developing singer-songwriters. As well as being a successful performer, songwriter and teacher, Joanna Eden mentored the young Sam Smith for nine years and learned much about the emergence of an artist in that time. In this session Joanna will explore what it means to be an artist, what does it mean to live a life of joyful music making and can an artist’s struggle to emerge and be appreciated by music lovers and by the music industry sometimes mean a loss of creative identity. For Joanna music is much more than a career; it’s a way of life, and she hopes to encourage singers to face their fears and see themselves not just as singers but as true artists! Joanna believes we all need mentors and we can all become mentors, and when we find and make friends with our true inner-artist we become a bigger, fuller and better person. All these philosophies will be explored in a mix of presentation, talk, discussion, vocal warm ups and – of course – in song! Participants should have some solo performance experience, some songwriting experience and be familiar with harmonising. Some preparation material will be sent out prior to the workshop. Please note this is not a songwriting workshop or singing technique workshop as such, and is not suitable for absolute beginners, but is an opportunity for those who have already begun to explore their own performing and songwriting identity. For more information please contact education@stables.org Joanna Eden: Joni & Me
