SUMMER USEF/USEA H.T. & AREA III CHAMPIONSHIPS June 24-26, 2022

welcome Dear friends,

We’d like to welcome you to the Area 3 Championships and Summer Horse Trials at Stable View. Entries have increased from last year, so please arrive early and avoid the rush. We have a number of improvements to the facility since many of you were last here. These include: A new warm up arena for Stadium. In addition to refreshments in the Rider Lounges, we have added a refreshment tent in the common area between the Dressage Arenas. Ollie’s Inn will be open in the afternoon for beer and wine. The upstairs of the Pavilion will be open for some A/C and views of the action. Our 4* team of course designers lend their expertise to us again at this Horse Trial. Mark Phillips and Mogie Bearden-Muller have put their signature touches on Cross Country, and Chris Barnard returns with his composition for Stadium. While we have been irrigating 24/7, we cannot match the sun's intensity demonstrated via 90 and 100 degree days. With what little rain there has been going around us, Stable View has not had meaningful rain for over a month, and with soil temperatures in the upper 80’s it has taken longer than usual to get water to the roots of the grass. We will be irrigating until we start Cross Country on Friday. If you get the chance, pay attention to the cross country jumps at the finish they are miniature versions of some of the buildings at Stable View, new this year from Eric Bull. We’d like to thank VTO Saddlery and FITS Riding for their generosity in terms of prizes. As a result of their commitments, a total of $20,000 of gift certificates await the fortunate winners. On behalf of the entire Stable View Team, welcome to a great weekend of Eventing! Cover image of Jennifer Brannigan on Connory by GRC Photo

A BIRDER'S PARADISE

FREE TO BEE Having started in early spring with five nucleus colonies (also known as "nucs") from a local bee supplier, Stable View's bees have grown to eleven, almost twelve, hives with healthy queens. Over the summer, we have supported the bees' efforts to build up and prepare for winter. Our goal is to contribute to healthy pollinators in our area, and share the sweet fruits of their labor!

This time last year, Stable View had one resident Red-Cockaded Woodpecker. Today, we have ten (six adults and four juveniles)! Additionally, by increasing our number of nest boxes we have helped many of our feathered friends thrive: this year, we have fledged 200+ Eastern Bluebirds (an increase of 50% compared to last year); a pair of Eastern Screech Owls fledged two young; and the American Kestrels fledged all five nestlings from the same nest box as in previous years. According to our expert, Mark Pavlosky of MPJ Wildlife, we expect to observe many migrant species working their way South early this fall. We look forward to hosting bird watchers who wish to view native, rare, or endangered species on their lists!

HISTORICALLY, "A GATHERING PLACE" Set out afoot–or ahoof–on our 15 miles of marked trails, each named in honor of local Native American tribes, where you may see evidence of our prescribed fires, which increase plant diversity, perpetuate endangered species, allow wildlife easier access to food sources, restore nutrients back into the soil, and reduce the risk of wildfires.

Capall Pulse Therapy The benefits of PEMF therapy for horses include but are not limited to faster recovery, improved performance, increased microcirculation and improved suppleness. This crosses over to humans as well. We also receive benefits of reduced anxiety, immune system support and repairing damaged tissue. Capall Pulse Therapy offers low frequency and high frequency treatments for both equine and human athletes.

At EEP we provide enhanced preventative and rehabilitative care through innovative practices in equine sports medicine. We are the only facility in the United States to own and operate the Equine Therapy International cold saltwater treadmill for rehabilitation and integrated training to improve all-over suppleness, stride length, muscle tone and strength, and reduce risk of injury.
