The title of Mappa Auqua makes reference to the term Mappa Mundi, the world maps created during medieval Europe. “…mappae mundi were never meant to be used as navigational charts and they make no pretense of showing the relative areas of land and water. Rather, mappae mundi were schematic and were meant to illustrate different principles.”
What we have here then is a zine illustrating (as map / schematics) different principles of water (in all its forms) within the city of San Francisco.
Theme for this issue: Psychogeography: An unexpected view of San Francisco and water.
A mapping of atmospheric unities of a city on the basis of ideas of the international Situationist movement. “By wandering, letting oneself float or drift (dériver is the French word used) each person can discover his or her own ambient unities of a specific city.”# Drifting through the city, in terms of its relation to water could be as far and diverse as walking the perimeter of the city along its long coastline
