Identify the essence of a dying or defunct brand, and then transform it by providing a new direction. {APPROACH}
I chose Seventeen magazine to rebrand. It was the first teen magazine established in the United States. The brand wanted to promote self-confidence in teen girls. The new Seventeen goes far beyond a teen magazine and is about helping teen girls overcome difficulties, building self-confidence, and encouraging them to be resourceful, confident and hopeful.

{OBJECTIVE}
Create promotional collateral for a film festival for a chosen movie director. Extract a theme that ties together all of the director’s selected films. Conceptualize it into a visual system and coordinate a complex set of materials as a whole. {APPROACH}
To convey the importance of the journey of spiritual satisfaction, I largely used gloomy blue to render a lonely and empty atmosphere, and used yellow as a pop color to suggest the shimmer in life. To create a feeling of solitude and disconnectedness, I used wall texture and acrylic board to deliver the feeling of an empty room. I also brought a blurry effect to the acrylic board to show the misunderstanding between people and places.

Develop a rationale for expressing a piece of music through typography, imagery, and layout. Gather ideas, emotions, and visuals that would be associated with the song, and bring the ideas to life through photography. {APPROACH}
My chosen music was City of Stars. Originally, the song was from the movie La La Land, and it delivered a sense of romantic love between two characters in the movie. When I listened to the melody and lyrics, I pictured a fantastic utopia in my mind, where everyone was loved by others. My goal was to convey this utopia to viewers and evoke their happy and relaxed emotions.

Identify a problem that can be solved though the design process. Conduct audience research and integrate a variety of media to create awareness about a problem and help alleviate the issue. {APPROACH}
I designed a project to bring understanding to a type of ocean plastic pollution called “microfiber pollution.” Every time we wash our synthetic clothing, thousands of tiny pieces of plastic are released into the ocean and become the source of food for marine animals, which eventually become our food. In order to raise people’s awareness, I combined a variety of actual seafood with different synthetic clothing on plates, which underscored the issue in a bold and direct graphic way.

Design a thirteen-page booklet to experiment with designing a variety typographic layouts. Assume a possible future in the next ten years for a chosen topic. {APPROACH}
I created an informative booklet about light therapy in the future. Based on my research, I found that there is a new therapy that can cure people both physically and mentally by just using light. Fascinated by that, I used various gradients to suggest that light therapy can be applied in a wide range of fields and also to create an emotional impact for the viewers.

This project includes two motion graphics. The first one tells an interesting story with a chosen song. The second one redesigns the cover of IDN print magazines by animating the concept to bring the graphics to life.

Explore a chosen topic that identifies a real-world issue and defines the problem. Through a year-long process, distill information, conduct research, analyze strategies and develop a solution through a design approach. The solution will reach its intended audience across multiple design platforms that demonstrate design thinking and practices. {APPROACH}
“Got It” is a brand that helps designers prepare and practice professional presentations. This project is divided into three parts—an app that helps designers exercise and practice essential presentation skills step-by-step; a workshop that assists them to learn presentation skills and gives them opportunities to practice with peers; and a website that generates experiences and suggestions from design experts and presentation pros to encourage and inspire designers.
