The Human Experience Christopher T. Staggs Senior Designer and Architect I believe in the adventure of architecture and design, and wake up every day excited about meeting and working with people who share the idea of enriching the human spirit and experience. My personal language is friendly, rigorous, determined, and collaborative. Within the framework of Design, which I am passionately engaged, daily, I am most enthusiastic about enhancing and touching the human experience with architecture. My personal goal is to bring the industrial design world and architecture and environmental design worlds much closer. The experience of living in a finely detailed sailing yacht or sports car touches my spirit, takes me beyond the day to day; to a larger world; a world bigger than myself; the soft curve of the seat against your leg; the firm feel of the steering and the quickness of its movement; the visual richness and material integration. How it all comes together to make an experience is what I am most focussed on as a designer, from the smallest, intimate scale to the largest, epic impressions. When we synthesize ideas and technologies in a design process that suspends disbelief and explores the unknown, this is when, I believe we are making incredible discovery and making places and objects which truly transform lives. As a design leader I am very comfortable leading the design strategy process on large, complex projects, as a collaborator, mentor, and friend within a larger design team of stakeholders. I understand the leadership role in design, how important established goals are to the success of the design process and project; the ability to work within a structure while also exploring the unknown. My experience on complex projects, intense client interaction, specific budgets and schedules, challenging building systems and their correct documentation, and multi-disciplinary design groups is well aligned with the pursuit of exceptional and provocative architecture. I have a vision for freshness, richness and energy, as well as simplicity and restraint. A great deal of my experience includes the entire project process from A-Z. I have lived and worked in London, Rome, Kansas City, Boston, and Los Angeles, so I understand the dynamics of a multi-cultural approach and am comfortable working along side diverse personalities, cultures, and challenging situations.. With design and document leadership, from business development through to construction, I am at home and comfortable working with clients one on one and large groups. With extensive experience working with government agencies I understand the in’s and out’s of project approvals and design reviews, as well as a the importance and consistency of consistent document packages. I have also worked directly in construction and understand construction means and methods, which importantly informs the design process. The realization of provocative architecture is directly related to the knowledge of how building are made. I believe in the adventure of making architecture and I’m excited about the future.
