INVESTED IN STABILITY
“Stability is the new growth” is a phrase used by one of the contributors to this magazine (page 62) when looking at market prospects in 2025. Depending on your definition of stability, two of the world’s largest fastener groups (Würth and Fastenal, see page 6) recorded results you could describe in that way in 2024 – with the caveat being that when the likes of Fastenal talk about a 2.7% rise, then that actually translates to quite a lot of money.
Consistency, stability and reliability are all concepts that many fastener businesses pride themselves upon, so stability is not entirely unwelcome in the market.
Investment is one of the tried and tested ways to achieve those coveted qualities and there’s plenty of evidence of cash being put into fastener businesses. It’s a point Würth makes:
“In 2024, we stuck to our countercyclical strategy and invested when others scaled back.”
And there’s plenty of evidence of the same from other fastener businesses in the pages of this issue. MKT, Güde, Haemers, Heico… we’ve got plenty of insights from those and others about where they’re investing their cash to secure and build their businesses for the future.
It’s not much of a stretch to believe that plenty of businesses around the world would be pretty happy with stability after a few consistently disruptive years. There are a few more potential banana skins ahead, but right now, the prospect of stability and consistency are probably pretty appealing prospects for the market.

ASK FOR THEM BY NAME...
New wave, big hair, shoulder pads — not everything from the 1980s was designed to last forever. On the other hand, Nord-Lock invented the original wedge-lock washers that have been trusted to secure bolted joints ever since we began innovating the technology in 1982.
By using geometry instead of friction, Nord-Lock washers prevent bolts and nuts from loosening unintentionally. Engineers ask for them by name, and they’re a standard-bearer for safety in construction and industry. So, as the world changes through the decades, remember that a Nord-Lock washer is made to last.
Two global fastener giants – broadly –maintained or grew sales levels in ‘24
Two of the biggest fastener giants in the world, Würth Group and Fastenal, revealed their 2024 sales in the early weeks of this year, with both ruing difficult trading conditions but finding positives for the 12 month period.
Würth Group closed 2024 reporting sales of €20.2 billion, according to its preliminary annual financial statements, equating to a yearoveryear decrease of 0.9% or 0.4% when adjusted for currency effects. As a result of the lower sales volume and higher costs, the Group’s preliminary operating result stands at €900 million, below the previous year.
Würth Group expects the Group’s 2024 consolidated financial statements to show an increase in equity to €9.2 billion
(31 December 2023: EUR 8.8 billion).
In Würth Group’s domestic market of Germany, sales hit €8.0 billion (–4.1%).
The companies outside Germany were able to achieve slight sales growth due to acquisitions, among other factors, while the group made special mention of Southern Europe, Eastern Europe and South America.
Worthy of note is that the 2024 results follow two consecutive years of recordbreaking results for Würth Group, which passed €20 billion annual sales for the first time in 2023 (2022: €19.95 billion).
Robert Friedmann, Chairman of the Central Management Board of the Würth Group, said: “Given the economic and political conditions, I am pleased to
report that the Würth Group was able to maintain its sales level of EUR 20 billion [this development primarily driven by traderelated areas, which showed a stable sales trend].
“In 2024, we stuck to our countercyclical strategy and invested when others scaled back. Our focus is on keeping goods available and maintaining our delivery readiness for our more than four million customers worldwide.”
Fastenal rises, but fasteners are “lagging”
Meanwhile, USheadquartered Fastenal recording a rise in net sales of 2.7% in 2024, to over $7.5 billion. Gross profit also grew over the year, up 1.4% to $3.4 billion.
However, Fastenal noted that the fastener side of its business “continued to lag nonfastener line.”
It explained: “Product categories, like fasteners, that are more closely aligned with final goods production tend to be more significantly impacted by periods of weak industrial production, such as we are currently experiencing. We achieved growth in our safety category reflecting the lower volatility of PPE demand and our success in growing our vending installed base.”
Emphasising the “continuation of the soft manufacturing environment that has been sustained throughout 2024”, Fastenal also pointed out many of its largest customers enacted unusually sharp production cuts in the last two weeks of December during holidayrelated plant shutdowns.

ELECTRIC SCREWDRIVER SYSTEM WITH DATA FOR PRECISION
Panasonic’s Senior Product Manager Aziz Lokhandwala, who looks after the company’s business in North America, talks about the new Corded Electric Screwdriver System and market in 2025.
Panasonic’s new Corded Electric Screwdriver System is an innovative corded solution packed with advanced features, including enhanced torque capabilities, sophisticated errorproofing, ergonomic design and more.
This system includes four electric screwdrivers, each powered by a brushless motor designed to capture and monitor torque and fastening data.
Type A features a controller that converts torque values and provides I/O for PLC integration, while Type B includes a controller with I/O functionality for PLC. Types C and D are simpler, with Type C supporting wired communication with a PLC, and Type D operating as a standalone screwdriver.
“The range includes everything from a basic screwdriver with no advanced features, equipped with a clutch to provide accurate and repeatable torque fastening, to three more advanced versions tailored to meet various customer needs,” says Aziz Lokhandwala, Senior Product Manager at Panasonic North America.
He adds: “One version supports wired communication with a PLC for customers seeking MES (manufacturing execution system) integration, while two other versions can connect wirelessly to our Panasonic controller. This wireless connectivity sets our products apart from anything else currently available on the market.”
// Users can use controller management software to collect and analyse data from up to 80 tools by a wired local area network (LAN) for the Type A and B series. //
These features also help ensure superior quality control while boosting efficiency and precision on the assembly line. Designed for ease of use, the ergonomic tools offer both push and lever start options, along with an LED verification lamp for errorproofing and optional wireless communication for added convenience.
Ideal for lowtorque applications such as manufacturing electronics and plastic products, the system is available in four series featuring 12 different models. These lightweight, handheld drivers provide accurate torque delivery in a range of 0.3Nm to 4.4Nm, with speeds of 650, 1,200 and 1,800 RPM.
Speaking of the inspiration for developing the new system,
Lokhandwala says: “The electric screwdriver system came from a need within Panasonic. As a global manufacturing powerhouse with numerous factories, we developed this product not only to meet external customer needs but also to enhance our own internal manufacturing processes. Through internal research, we found it was an ideal fit for external markets and our operations, driving its creation and success.”
Panasonic also investigated its various facilities to understand tightening and fastening challenges and the products the staffers use. Based on the results, Panasonic developed a solution that addresses both internal needs and those of external customers.
Data
The new products boast various levels of data traceability since using data in manufacturing is the “bare minimum” nowadays, according to Lokhandwala. Up to eight tools can be controlled simultaneously via wireless communication with the controller, enabling tracking work history and key data points like OK/NOK status, batch counts, torque values and more.
For example, the Type A series can record the converted torque value of each fastener, with the motor current converted to a torque
Aziz Lokhandwala, Panasonic’s Senior Product Manager
value and recorded for quality control and process improvement. Additionally, users can use controller management software to collect and analyse data from up to 80 tools by a wired local area network (LAN) for the Type A and B series. In addition, work data can be output in CSV format for more detailed analysis.
// I believe we will see increased investment in US manufacturing, as this appears to be a key emphasis of the current administration. //
Wireless controller enables secure communication and control with up to eight tools simultaneously
Market sentiment
Torque Magazine also asks Lokhandwala about Panasonic’s business in North America, who says 2024 was “a bit challenging” for the company as customers were more hesitant to spend money.
“They just don’t have the budgets for the large projects we had seen the prior year. But overall, I think it’s still a pretty stable business,” Lokhandwala explains.
Another issue that might deter customers from spending money was the US presidential election in November 2024. According to Lokhandwala, it’s often anticipated that business will slow down during an election year.
Looking ahead, as the new administration assumed office in January, Lokhandwala expects that many of the budgets people have been holding back would finally start to be utilised.
“In general, I believe we will see increased investment in US manufacturing, as this appears to be a key emphasis of the current administration. However, the reality ultimately depends on each individual manufacturer—their financial position and their specific goals for expansion will determine their ability to invest,” Lokhandwala concludes.

SoftSet rivets feature high-performance galvanising, offering superior resistance to corrosion and atmospheric agents
SOLUTION TO FRAGILE MATERIALS
SARIV’s Soft-Set rivets are designed for fragile materials such as wood and plastic. Thanks to advanced design, they ensure installation without deformation and can be customised to meet specific customer requirements.
SARIV has introduced SoftSet rivets, specially developed for delicate materials such as wood and plastic. The rivets comprise two components: a blind rivet and a semiperforated rivet body. During setting, the rivet is installed inside the body located on the opposite side of the component to be fixed. This design ensures a secure connection without deforming the material, making it ideal for fragile substrates.
A wide head provides a large surface area to support the rivet and distribute force uniformly. This minimises stress on the material while preventing deformation during installation. Additionally, the mandrel remains securely inside the application after installation, providing excellent resistance to vibrations and loosening.
To enhance durability, SoftSet rivets feature highperformance galvanising, which offers superior resistance to corrosion and atmospheric agents. The widehead design on both sides of the application not only distributes setting forces evenly but also delivers an aesthetically pleasing finish.
Thanks to their doublebody construction, SoftSet rivets accommodate a very wide grip range, making them suitable
for a variety of industries. Applications include construction, plastics, scaffolding, fibre containers for specialised transport and the automotive sector.

MKT’S LANDMARK EXPANSION
MKT will this year complete work on a landmark extension at its headquarters in Germany, unlocking an immediate increase in production capacity. The increasingly internationalised business is anchored by a firm grounding in R&D and has a point to prove that sustainability and innovation go hand-in-hand. Torque Magazine speaks with CEO Mr Stefan Weustenhagen about market challenges, specialisations and the future for MKT…
How important is innovation and R&D to MKT?
For us, innovation is not a matter of possibility but a matter of necessity. Virtually all our concrete anchor products are made in Germany with raw materials sourced from Germany and neighbouring countries in Europe. While this is beneficial in regards to quality, lead times, supply chain stability and sustainability, this business model puts us is in a challenging cost position. Our products have to be really good in order to compete successfully against cheap imports from outside Europe. Therefore, investing in R&D to come up with innovative anchor solutions is very important.
Take our wedge anchor BZ3 as an example: We drove the design strength to a level that was achievable as a maximum at that time. Its approved variable embedment depth was a game changer often copied since then and the ETA for its variation BZ3 dynamic was the first wedge anchor approved for fatigue applications. It is the perfect solution for moderate fatigue loads with real benefits for the user: Price competitive and easy to install. Developing and manufacturing this kind of product comes at a cost, yet its innovative nature allows us to drive our business.
MKT recently launched the BZ3 wedge anchor in HCR steel – is that now available to the market?
That is right. HCR, i.e. high corrosion resistant steel, is a very important steel grade in Europe when it comes to installations in environmentally aggressive conditions. By using 1.4529 material as HCR steel, you can create safe anchorages even in extreme atmospheric conditions like indoor swimming pools, road tunnels with deicing, or chemical plants. Being able to offer the BZ3 in this steel grade to the customer was key to complete the BZ3 product family that is now available in steel zinc plated, A4 stainless steel and just HCR steel. In parallel, we extended the ETA for fatigue loading to the A4 steel grade.
Are you currently seeing more development in the fields of chemical anchors, mechanical heavy duty anchors or light duty anchors?
The product development of the entire anchor range has generally achieved a very high level. You can see an increasingly diversified product range in the anchor market. Load performance as well as cost reductions and user friendliness are the driving factors for developments in our industry. Based on a solid product range that comprises all established mechanical and chemical anchor types, MKT has long extended its product range to serve more specialised applications, e.g. the bonded expansion anchor VMZ, which actually combines characteristics of mechanical and chemical anchors, and its variation VMZ dynamic for fatigue applications.
Based on our experience in this special field of application, MKT recently launched the aforementioned BZ3 dynamic which is quicker to install and can be loaded immediately. Moreover, MKT develops products and approvals for specific regional requirements, e.g. chemical anchors complying with the German water resources act as a socalled WHGcompliant anchorage or glass capsules for chemical anchors fixing safety rails. For Scandinavia, MKT extended its concrete screw range by a line with zinc flake coating to address customer requirements in that market. But also for anchors used at lower load levels you see many interesting developments. MKT now offers the nail anchor N also for dynamic applications that allows to fix e.g. fire boards in tunnels where cyclic pressure loading matter.
The ETA approved wedge anchor MKT BZ3 dynamic is quick and easy to install, offering an innovative solution for anchoring fatigue loading safely yet efficiently

You’re working on an expansion of your premises – can you give us a few details and will it be largely for added production space?
Yes, that is a big thing for us that brings MKT’s capacities to the next level. With a whopping 15,000 m² of additional floor area, our new facility nearly doubles our floor area available for production and storage. It is very much needed as we are

currently bursting at the seams. Having more space will allow us to optimise operations, and we plan to fill any empty space quickly with additional manufacturing equipment. The building, on our selfowned 50,000 m² ground area, has been financed without any grants and we hold options to expand the facility further. The first header machines are already up and running, but the official opening ceremony will be held only after completion in fall 2025.
MKT is a manufacturer and one of the global market leaders for high quality anchors used in concrete structures. We offer the complete range of mechanical and chemical anchors for professional applications.

You offer calculation apps to the market too – this seems to be an area that is getting more important – are you seeing calculation apps rise in popularity?
Having our own design software has always been very important to us. It gives you full control and the flexibility to serve the customer best. We just recently launched the next generation of MKT Anchor Design software with many new features. Most importantly, the graphic user interface is very intuitive to use and ensures a good user experience for the design engineer. With the new software we are meeting requests we received from our customers and there is more to come: Stay tuned for a release of anchor plate design in 2025.
MKT has long established offices in North America – how is the market doing over there?
The anchor market in the US is undergoing some muchneeded consolidation; yet the market is under immense pressure from China imports as you know. Everyone is anxiously looking forward to how the new US administration will manage international trade, imports and tariffs in future. This certainly will affect manufacturers in Europe, too. On the other hand, new opportunities might arise for manufacturers in the US. MKT Germany is supporting its sister company MKT USA to modernise and expand their manufacturing capacities. Whatever change the future will bring, MKT is ready for its challenges.
Other geographical areas you are developing business in?
We are increasingly internationalising our business that historically has been focused very much on Germany and some neighbouring countries. We have been successfully developing our business in Europe over the years and are now intensifying our presence in the AsiaPacific region where today’s growth markets are.
What are your biggest challenges currently?
Raw material inflation and rising energy costs are certainly challenging for MKT as for any other manufacturer. So far we have been adopting well to changing conditions. Another thing, however, is the increasing bureaucracy we experience in Europe with overbur
// The massive extension is a milestone in our company history that marks not only an immediate increase in production capacities but also allows further expansion in the years to come. //
dening requirements particularly regarding product compliance. This is really creating some headaches as we cannot see any end to the influx of regulations increasing in number and complexity. In particular for small and medium sized enterprises like MKT, the regulative requirements reached a level that is hardly manageable or affordable. We run the risk in Europe of paralysing the operation of the entire industry, putting Europe at a disadvantageous position against competition from outside. Many companies feel that this is not sustainable for much longer and we can only hope that decision makers in Brussels are realising the damaging effect to the European economy and will be easing the situation a bit.
What’s coming up for MKT in the short to mid-term future?
MKT is looking forward to seeing operations in the new facility at full swing later in 2025. The massive extension is a milestone in our company history that marks not only an immediate increase in production capacities but also allows further expansion in the years to come. It will be the first time that we will have the production of mechanical and chemical anchors under one roof. We want to maintain if not increase our growth rate to be successful in the market as a manufacturer of the complete range of postinstalled concrete anchors.
Is there anything else you’d like to tell our readers?
MKT is taking sustainability seriously. We source raw materials and components locally with short transportation routes. We use a high degree of recycled steel material and use solely green energy to run our machines, already 15% of which from our own photovoltaic and heat recovery systems. With newly installed photovoltaic panels we will boost this number to 35%. The new facility is built at the highest environmental standards, saving energy and resources: It will be gold certified by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) for sure, aiming even at the platinum certificate we are very optimistic to achieve. This would be the first ever awarded to a manufacturing plant, demonstrating that sustainability and innovation go hand in hand.

Recently investing in warehousing and its energy system, Güde has also been making strategic exhibition appearances at the likes of Innotrans. Torque Magazine catches up with the latest from the manufacturer, speaking with Managing Director, Lutz Güde and Sales Manager Dennis Zöller
Plettenbergheadquartered Güde is a family business, now managed by its third generation, producing lock washers, wirebended parts and screw and spindle fastening devices, among others.
Güde has recently been making efficiency improvements through investment in an automated small parts warehouse. Offering dense storage and enhanced efficiency, the new system capably juggles 12,500 crates or containers in a mini load system measuring 38x10x7.5m, within Güde’s new 1,600m2 premises.
Currently it is operating on a twoaisle system but there’s a futureproof potential to add a third aisle should the need arise. Beginning operation in Q4 2024, the automated system is already having a significant positive impact on the business, the firm tells Torque Magazine
Rail links
Güde’s automated small parts warehouse provides dense storage and efficiency enhancements for the business
Güde is closely linked to the rail market, Lutz Güde explains: “We supply product for many elements of the market… for the rails, the electrical lines…” The long list of railrelated areas Güde supplies Certified sperrkant spring washers, contact washers and sperrkant washers, as well as single, double and triple coils washers among many other items, to the industry.
Güde’s close alignment with the rail sector has played its part in the firm’s 45% growth level in 2024, and the future is looking positive thanks to those rail links too, Torque Magazine is told. Rail is among the stronger markets right now, with ambitions to double capacities and expand in many territories, not just in Güde’s German home, but further afield too: “It’s worldwide, from South America to Japan,” Lutz Güde explains.
Naturally enough, Güde has been a longterm visitor to Berlins’ transportfocused Innotrans and the firm made the leap from visitor to exhibitor at the last iteration of the trade event. It proved a wise decision, says the Güde boss: “Innotrans went very well. It was great to get the insight into the sector and see the optimism there.”
Happily for Güde, the positive news doesn’t stop there. Its East European base in Poland has been exceeding expectations and growing substantially. That branch – which includes a factory and a fully linked IT system – was first opened in 2021and, thanks to the restrictions of Covid, it was no easy feat to launch it. But the investment and effort in its Mikołówset production site has paid off, with 4050% increase in the level of production sales there.
Energy and digitalisation
Güde’s focus has also been on improving the firm’s carbon footprint. The business is shifting to a truly digital environment where it will operate paperless offices by mid2025. There’s been further investment in its energy mix too, the latest in a longrunning investment in sustainable power by the business. Güde installed its first solar panels 14 years ago, with a 100 kwp system. Not long after, in 2013, combined heat and power plants were set up to further enhance its energy selfsufficiency. In 2024, that has taken a further step forward thanks for further energyrelated investment, with Güde’s solar capacity now at 600 kwp, a significant rise.
In the near future, Güde will be heading to Stuttgart’s Fastener Fair Global, where visitors will be able to find out more about the firm’s latest investments and the billions of products it manufactures inhouse every year, including standard and customised parts.

WOOD, CHIPBOARD & DECKING SCREWS
GREATER STABILITY FOR VERSATILE MATERIAL
Eurotec’s angle-bracket screw Strong and tension strap HighLoad can be used together to enhance strength in joints without sacrificing stability
Wood has been used for centuries as a building material, as it has a wide range of applications ensuring solid and durable constructions in both traditional and modern building projects. However, aside from its versatility, working with wood requires special care as it naturally reacts to external influences such as moisture or temperature changes.
Therefore, Eurotec has launched an anglebracket screw and a tension strap with both of them suitable for crosslaminated timber (CLT) construction. By combining them, users can achieve strength and stability in joints.
Made from hardened carbon steel, the anglebracket screw Strong is specially designed for heavyduty connections between sheet steel and wood. Its scraper groove allows for quick gripping, while the optimised screw geometry minimises the splitting effect when screwed in. The increased shank diameter enhances shear force absorption, improving joint stability.
The special underhead geometry allows the screw to sit optimally in the plate, providing static performance. Available in diameters of 8mm and 10mm, as well as lengths from 60mm to 180mm, Strong is European Technical Assessment (ETA) certified and meets the highest technical requirements.
Eurotec's tension strap HighLoad brackets are designed for tensile loads in timbertotimber connections and can absorb tensile loads from seismic or windinduced effects for floor slabs and slab thicknesses up to 240mm. Their optimised geometry allows them to be used in three different load levels and offers a characteristic tensile strength of up to 200kN.
In order to achieve these values, Eurotec advised that HighLoad needs to be installed in combination with Strong.
The combination of both products allows the structure to be secured against both lateral and vertical loads in areas subject to high tensile and shear forces. This distributes the stresses evenly and minimises the risk of possible displacement. This increases the longevity of the structure and ensures lasting safety under changing loads.
In addition, the use of specially designed screws contributes to fast and safe installation.

DECADES OF INNOVATION
With 35 years of history, Klimas Wkręt-met aims to tap into opportunities outside Europe to expand its business
Polish building materials company Klimas Wkrętmet will celebrate its 35th anniversary this year. Founded in 1990 by Joanna and Wojciech Klimas, the company was originally a family business that operated locally. Currently, Klimas is one of the largest manufacturers of construction fasteners in Central and Eastern Europe, with fasteners produced in the region sold to nearly 70 countries.
Notable projects that used Klimas Wkrętmet’s products include a mountain shelter at the foot of Canada's Mont Assiniboine Mountain, a 27storey building made of arcaded glued laminated timber (glulam) beams in Singapore and Marmormolen, an underdevelopment wharf in the Søndre Frihavn area of Copenhagen, Denmark.
Klimas’ produced 30 million screws daily thanks to modern machinery, digitisation and automation of its manufacturing process, with wood screws being a significant part of its production lines. With only a handful of European companies producing wood screws, Klimas believed that wood “would be the future” especially glulam, which allows frame structures to be erected quickly.
“By all means, this is the direction the world is heading. Being in the construction industry for so many years, I felt that wood construction will grow in strength, which is related to the growing awareness of investors,” says Wojciech Klimas, president of Klimas.
Therefore, Klimas has been focusing on developing and innovating its products, evidenced by having a laboratory and research and development (R&D) centre.
Currently, the company has more than a dozen patents including the SQ Ceramic coating—a chromiumfree and
“I set the technological bar high enough to ensure that our products are among the most modern on the market already at the development stage. This industry is a constant challenge, and technology is moving forward at a tremendous pace,” Klimas adds.
// Klimas Wkręt-met has expanded to countries outside Europe by entering the Indian and Nepalese markets. //
In addition to its leading status in Central and Eastern Europe, Klimas Wkrętmet has expanded to countries outside Europe by entering the Indian and Nepalese markets. To strengthen its status in the industry, Klimas said the company constantly learns from competitors.
“I am inspired by the actions of many companies, sometimes competing ones. I am full of admiration for them, because I realise how much effort and sacrifices these successes cost,” explains our interviewee. One needs to have some humility in life to be able to appreciate the opponent,” he adds.

HAEMERS: EVERY WEEK, A NEW DIMENSION IS ADDED
90+ years old Haemers continues to expand the range of washer dimensions and products it has available for customers, thanks to an extensive in-house tooling facility. Torque Magazine catches up with the firm for the latest on its investments and ambitions for 2025...
For our readers who may not yet be familiar, can you give us a brief overview of Haemers’ specialisms?
Founded in 1932, Haemers specialises in pressing work from plates and coils. We have extensive machinery inhouse, up to 400 tons pressing force.
We are convinced that we have Europe’s largest amount of flat washer dimensions available for our customers. And every week new dimensions are added, without any tool cost! Next to flat washers we produce all kinds of stamping parts according to plan or model of the customers. A modular system allows a lot of pressing work to be done without any tool costs for the customer. Moduletooling is being used over the parts lifetime, after which we can reuse a lot of parts, so this keeps the total tool cost as low as possible.
What’s new at Haemers?
After 2023’s investments of a new tumbling line, robots, new stateofthe art hardness measurement equipment… 2024’s biggest investment was a new packing carousel directly installed on to a pressline. This pressline is specialised and adapted for production of ISOPLAC “pressure plates”. With this investment packaging is done directly in production, so we save an enormous amount of time and production capacity. We now supply this product group throughout Europe and continue to grow in this.
You previously mentioned that Haemers was looking at installing solar panels...
We received our own solar panels in midJuly 2024. This means we have taken a big step forward in terms of sustainability and our CO2 footprint. We can supply approximately 40% of our consumption, so this was also a nice investment in 2024.
How did trading in 2024 compare with 2023?
At the end of 2023, expectations for 2024 were not that high. But in the meantime we can say that our turnover has increased by about 6%, despite lower prices and margins. The whole of 2024 also brought us almost 20 new customers. So, people really do find their way to our production. We hope to continue this momentum in 2025, although it seems that things will start again in uncertainty. But we are very hopeful and convinced that we are ready for a bright future.
What kind of trends or shifts have you seen in the market recently?
We notice that many customers still see the importance of local production, in addition to imports from overseas areas.
Unfortunately, some have returned there and seem to have forgotten the problems of a few years ago. But the vast majority have changed their purchasing policy, sometimes drastically. Our highly efficient and highly automated production allows us to be truly competitive.
Tooling is done in-house – that’s obviously a big investment, but I imagine it gives you a lot of control of your processes and the ability to make enhancement tweaks, as well as produce custom product for customers – is that correct?
Certainly, this department is the heart of our company. Tooling design is one of, if not the most, important part if you want to be an efficient, competitive and, above all, reliable supplier. Our customers attach great importance to this. In the world of press work, something can always break or cause a setback, but with our own machinery and planning we can respond really quickly and we aim to be operational again within max 24 hours later.
You previously said approx. 65% of business was export – is that proportion roughly the same and do you expect it to shift much in 2025?
We do not yet have exact figures (at time of writing), but we suspect that it will have increased slightly. Given that our growth is now spread throughout Europe, and finally even far beyond this a few times this year.
What kind of industry sectors are Haemers product used in?
Various industries from machinery, automotive, construction, furniture to agriculture can benefit from the quality and performance of Haemers and its products. And of course a major part of our customers are wholesalers of fasteners.
Can you tell us about your ambitions for Haemers in 2025?
In 2025, we expect to take some major steps in our packaging department. With new and better sorting options, but especially in digitisation and paperless working.
An external company is currently designing a new and completely proprietary software for creating labels. Based on the production sheet, the operator and machine involved will immediately have the correct parameters for the labels. This allows us to provide our customers with an even broader and better service in this area. We are moving towards 100% custommade or private labels options, with no more restrictions.

At Fastener Fair in Stuttgart, the valuemakers of Dresselhaus will be presenting their latest solutions for efficient Cparts logistics as well as innovations like the new JDdrive generation of wood screws, currently poised for market launch.
More power, more performance – this is what Dresselhaus’ new generation of JDdrive wood screws stand for. The drill point uses the latest technology and complements the extensive Dresselhaus product portfolio. The key point is that all available JDdrive sizes can be processed with just three bits: They have been specially developed for Dresselhaus, ensure a perfect connection between the screw head and the tool and make it easier to insert the screws. There is no need to switch back and forth between different bits, boosting jobsite efficiency. At the Dresselhaus stand (hall 3, booth 31684) visitors will be able to try out the new JDdrive themselves.

New from Eurotec The Structus for multi-storey CLT buildings Hall 7, Stand 3852 & 3804
The Structus load transfer system offers an innovative solution for multistorey building the construction with crosslaminated timber (CLT). It enables the connection of posts across multiple floors and supports the construction of pointsupported ceiling systems.
CLT stands out for being lightweight compared to steel or concrete while still offering high loadbearing capacity and stability. These qualities not only make it easy to handle onsite but also make CLT ideal for projects with demanding structural requirements. Pointsupported ceiling systems, a common construction method in multistorey CLT buildings, allow for flexible, open floor plans with large spans – ideal for office buildings, event spaces or residential projects. The challenge of pointsupported ceiling systems is to connect the posts securely across multiple floor levels. To ensure a reliable connection in multistory CLT constructions, Structus is now part of the Eurotec product range.
Structus: The Solution for Point-Supported CLT Ceiling Systems
Eurotec’s Structus load transfer system, manufactured from S355 galvanised structural steel, enables the seamless connec
intralogistics and material supply processes to increase the efficiency of Cparts supply. The system is currently one of the best solutions of its kind on the market and new modules are constantly being added, says the firm. How well the DIREKT RFID Kanban system works in practice can be tested directly on site at an RFID shelf plus automatic dispenser. The DIREKTblack shelving system (which will be on show in Stuttgart) has space for everything needed for daily work, clearly organised and ready to hand. The modular design allows plenty of scope for combinations and variations.
Dresselhaus has added a further 6,100 new products to its extensive Tools & Technology range for 2025 – the Valuemakers will be showcasing a small but fine selection at the trade fair. If that wasn’t enough, visitors to the Dresselhaus booth can also expect fresh coffee specialities and crunchy popcorn!

tion of timber columns between ceilings of multistorey CLT buildings and offers an efficient solution for the construction of pointsupported ceiling systems in projects of any size. A special feature of the Structus system is that the two connecting parts are inserted into each other through the ceiling to ensure a stable connection of the columns. This ensures a secure load transfer that fulfils the high structural requirements of multistorey CLT buildings. The system also reduces the need for additional beams and crossbeams, which considerably simplifies assembly and shortens the construction time. Designed to EC5 standards, Structus is engineered for strength, precision and efficiency – paving the way for more sustainable and innovative timber construction. It is available in different sizes to meet individual requirements, ensuring versatility for a wide range of applications. With the capacity to adapt to the needs of its clients, via the specialised exportation department, LUSAN has an ISO 9001 certificate which validates its quality in terms of products, internal processes and service.
LUSAN is proud of its blister pack project success. It began offering them back in 2005, but in 2018 the firm started using a more modern format with greater visual impact. The aim was to create a fashionable and attractive image of the products in a medium and little format, with a design divided by different colours to help to identify and visualise them more efficiently. LUSAN said it identified demand for the format, despite a lack of relevant offerings available on the market. The elegant and simple way to present the product was a bigger success than anticipated: “The blisters have proved to be really attractive, practical and easy to sell to the final consumer.”
LUSAN also offers a bulk Mix Fix dispenser and selfservice where clients can create their own mix of the products.
The star product of the company is Fixbolt, a sleeve anchor which doesn’t need professional experience to apply. Manufactured by the company, it’s so key to the company it features in LUSAN’s own logo.

BODEGRAVEN METAAL: SPEAKING OUT ON ANTI-DUMPING
Bodegraven Metaal provides its perspective on the ongoing investigation into anti-dumping measures for headless screws arriving in Europe from China. Igor Liberloo, Sales Director writes…
In recent years, concerns have grown over the dumping of goods from China into the European market, driven by unauthorised subsidies provided by the Chinese government to local manufacturers. These subsidies – ranging from financial support and lowinterest loans to tax rebates – enable Chinese companies to produce goods at artificially low prices, creating an uneven playing field for European businesses. The resulting influx of Chinese products undermines local prices and threatens the survival of European industries.
In response, the European Commission has launched an investigation into antidumping measures targeting Chinese imports, specifically focusing on “screws without heads,” with threaded rods (DIN 9761) comprising the majority of this category.
The disparity in pricing between the EU and China is stark, and European production volumes in this sector have reached unprecedented lows. In 2023, production levels were the lowest in history, a trend that continued into 2024. At Bodegraven Metaal, our production volumes have similarly decreased, falling to approximately onethird of 2021 levels, as we increasingly turned to imports from China to meet demand. This alarming trend prompted the EU to accelerate its investigation, which is expected to result in the introduction of antidumping duties in 2025.
Several uncertainties remain, including the effective start date and the percentage rate of the duties. Market speculation suggests the antidumping measures could be enforced as early as Q1 2025, even though the final decision is not expected until late 2025. For the measures to have a meaningful impact, the rates must be substantial. Comparisons to past antidumping decisions or existing rates (e.g., on bolts) are
irrelevant and may not serve as reliable indicators, as the duties could be higher than everyone expects, reflecting the urgency and severity of the current situation.
Questions also linger about whether distinctions will be made between lowerquality grades such as 4.8 and higher grades like 8.8 and above. At Bodegraven Metaal, we are proactively preparing for the outcome of this investigation. Our strategies are focused on adapting swiftly to any changes, ensuring we remain competitive regardless of the final decision.
// Market speculation suggests the anti-dumping measures could be enforced as early as Q1 2025, even though the final decision is not expected until late 2025. //
What is certain, however, is our commitment to increasing production capacity across all quality grades. This is the core objective of antidumping measures: preserving European production, safeguarding local jobs, and fostering competition with China through innovation and fair pricing. Our ultimate aim is to secure a sustainable future for Bodegraven Metaal, our industry peers, and, most importantly, the loyal customers who have supported us through good times and challenging ones.
SUSTAINABILITY AND DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION TO GO HAND-IN-HAND IN 2025
New technologies can help distribution companies become more efficient and help them to optimise their businesses while improving their environmental footprint. Epicor Product Marketing Manager Paul Bates explains how digital transformation and sustainability are not competing priorities…
Growing expectations around ethically sourced and environmentally friendly products, coupled with evolving climate regulations, are ensuring sustainability is a top business priority for many organisations in 2025. These pressures are not just reshaping priorities, they’re also accelerating digital transformation efforts, as businesses will need to rely on technology to meet their sustainability goals.
For the distribution industry, these challenges are heightened by rising material and shipping costs, supply chain disruption and increased competition. Businesses are therefore turning to digital tools such as ERP technology to help streamline operations and maintain agility.
Scalable solutions for a sustainable future
Sustainability initiatives on a small scale, for example encouraging and supporting employees to take local action, can contribute to longterm goals, but with digital transformation, businesses can take sustainability further.
Ultimately, digital transformation is a catalyst for achieving sustainability goals, helping to reduce environmental impact and maintain or increase profitability through widerscale and fundamental business change. One particular benefit is that it helps encourage greater efficiency and innovation through the actionable insights that centralised, optimised data can provide
With this smart data and decisionmaking, digital transformation can have a big impact on efficiency and waste reduction. Examples include IoTenabled smart warehouses that can monitor resource usage, energy consumption and tracking emissions in realtime, helping businesses identify inefficiencies, reduce waste and streamline operations. While automated systems powered by ERP technology can help monitor inventory levels, minimise overstock and reduce unnecessary transport emissions.
Having scalable, costeffective solutions is another way digital transformation and sustainability can go handinhand. Cloudbased ERP platforms enable businesses to scale operations with lower resource consumption, replacing energyintensive onpremises systems for energy efficient shared systems. Cloudbased ERP also supports remote monitoring and management, enabling sustainable hybrid working practices and reducing the need for physical oversight.
At the heart of progress is accurate data. Advanced analytics tools provide actionable insights for supply chain optimisation, emissions tracking, and resource allocation, ensuring quick adaptation to challenges and the avoidance of wasteful over
stocking. Digital transformation also fosters collaboration across supply chains, enabling circular economy practices such as recycling and reuse, while encouraging innovation in product design and sustainable distribution processes.
Overcoming sustainable transformation challenges
While digital tools and digital transformation offer significant advantages to organisations, businesses must overcome key challenges to fully integrate new technologies into business strategies for optimal success.
One major barrier is the upfront cost of implementing new systems, particularly for those organisations that rely heavily on legacy infrastructure. However, the longterm benefits such as reduced waste, lower energy consumption and increased efficiency will help justify these initial investments.
Another challenge is internal resistance to change, which can slow progress. To address this, business leaders must actively champion digital transformation initiatives and educate employees on the importance of adopting new processes. This should include demonstrating measurable outcomes, like time and cost savings and reduced emissions for the future wellbeing of the planet, that can help build shareholder trust and encourage organisationwide adoption.
Success in 2025
In 2025, sustainability is going to be a key focus for distributors, as new regulations come into effect. There will be a requirement for distributors to report on their carbon footprint and meet both customer expectations and regulatory expectations.
And while traditional and sometimes even manual methods are still needed to contribute to good sustainability outcomes, it is hard to see how organisations can ever hope to achieve the steep changes we need without embracing digital transformation. By leveraging digital transformation and new technologies, like cloudbased ERPpowered platforms, distribution businesses can optimise efficiency, improve decisionmaking, and navigate the complexities of ongoing economic and environmental challenges. Digital transformation and sustainability are not competing priorities—they are complementary investment strategies that help pave the way for success, measured on a traditional bottomline basis, as well as an environmentally responsible organisation.

Wedge Lock Washers obtain CE Marking
Receiving a CE Marking indicates that HEICO-LOCK®’s Wedge Lock Washers are suitable for construction projects requiring the highest level of quality and safety
HEICOLOCK’s Wedge Lock Washers have received a CE Marking, proof of meeting strict EU requirements for safety, health and environmental protection.
The CE marking refers to the ETA approval of the HEICO Group [ETA20/0075] and applies specifically to HEICOLOCK
Wedge Lock Washers in sizes M5 – M39 of type HLS (standard outer diameter) and HLB (enlarged outer diameter) in steel. The washers are now officially approved for applications in steel construction, as well as building and bridge projects.
The company said the CE marking is a significant milestone for opening new opportunities in construction projects that demand the highest levels of quality and safety.
“The CE marking is another important signal to our customers that they can rely on the quality and safety of our products. Especially in the construction industry, where safety requirements are exceptionally stringent, it is essential to provide solutions that uphold the highest standards,” says Tobias Grobe, Head of Sales & Marketing at HEICOLOCK.
Wedge Lock Washers boast multiple features. They are suitable for dynamic loads with the application of lubricants and can be reused. Wedge Lock Washers are exceptionally easy to install and remove, as they are supplied as preassembled pairs, simplifying the fastening process. This design ensures quick application and removal, making them a convenient choice for various industrial uses.
These washers are compatible with hightensile bolts of grades 8.8, 10.9 and 12.9, as well as their corresponding nuts, providing versatility across a range of demanding applications. They are available in both steel and stainless steel, with options for narrow or wide bearing surfaces. Additionally, other materials can be supplied upon request, catering to specific project requirements.
Standard sizes range from M3 to M76 and ¼” to 3”. Custom sizes and alternative materials are available upon request to meet specific project requirements.
Wedge Lock Washers are one of the products of the HEICOLOCK’s wedge locking systems which use preload force rather than friction to fasten the bolts.
The lock washers are designed with wedgeshaped cams on the inner surface, complemented by radial teeth on the outer surface. As the bolted joint is tightened, the radial teeth interlock with the corresponding mating surface, creating a secure connection. This interlocking mechanism ensures that movement within the system is restricted to the inner wedgeshaped cams, preventing any unintended loosening.
The unique interaction between the wedgeshaped surfaces effectively selflocks the bolt. This selflocking action not only enhances the security of the joint but also increases the clamping force, ensuring a more reliable and durable fastening solution.

“STABILITY IS THE NEW GROWTH”
for Stainless Steel
Adam Sivner, a Managing Director in the Industrials Group at global investment bank Houlihan Lokey, has pulled together a series of observations on key themes shaping the industrials and manufacturing sectors
Over the past 18 months, component manufacturers have faced challenges as the distribution channel unwound its previous stock build, leading to fluctuations in demand and inventory adjustments. Businesses focused on industrial end markets that can maintain a stable performance are likely to be at a distinct advantage compared to their peers.
Looking ahead, many industry participants expect low singledigit revenue growth in 2025 across the market.
Certain niches will continue to grow significantly ahead of the market Despite the ongoing uncertainties in the macroeconomic environment, there are specific sectors that remain wellpositioned for robust growth. Industries such as Aerospace & Defence (A&D), space, medical technologies and data centres are
expected to experience substantial structural growth due to secular trends and increasing demand for innovation. For example, the explosion in Generative AI relies on data centres with racks of servers to power the computational demand, alongside new power plants to cope with these requirements. Electronic component manufacturers are innovating further to ensure connectivity and reliability is at a premium.

WIHA BUILDS SPEEDE RANGE
Wiha’s electric screwdriver speedE was a hit when it launched in 2018, and the updated speedE II has been equally well received. Promising to complete work three times as fast thanks to the electric drive, the updated speedE II has a protective AutoStop function to prevent damage to materials.
Handling is easier thanks to a unique ring switch, allowing operation in all working positions, while the LED ring light provides maximum illumination of the working area. The included slimBits are tested at 10,000 V AC and approved for 1,000 AC work.
Pitched as ideal for a broad range of screwfastening tasks in the home, the speedE II aims to help protect joints and tendons with its electric drive handling recurring fastening tasks. It comes with slimBits, batteries and USB charger in a handy container.
More recently, Wiha has released the SpeedE PocketDrive, the newest SpeedE in the collection. As the name suggests, it’s a compact offering but it also promises plenty of versatile power.
Operation is simply at the push of a button, while fastening as well as loosening screws are both possible. For powerful screw connections, screws up to 4x60 mm can be easily screwed into spruce wood at 5.0 Nm, for example. For delicate components and screw connections, the electric screwdriver can be limited to 1.0 Nm at the push of a button to protect the material against damage from overtightening the screw. Thanks to the design of the screwdriver with automatic motor protection, the speedE PocketDrive can also be used as a fullfledged screwdriver for powerful screw connections (up to 12 Nm maximum).
The enclosed bit box in combination in with the magnetic bit holder offers a decent selection of 30 bits. But perhaps most significant for this particular model is the fact it is compact and light for easy handling for overhead screw connections or for applications in confined work spaces. It also comes with a USBC cable for easy recharging and sports a clever handle design which prevents it from rolling away. www.wiha.com

POS power: New packaging and branding in Unior revamp
Unior leans in on its principles of ‘Quality, innovation and sustainability’ in its brand refresh…
As any retailer, merchant or distributor worth their salt knows, packaging matters. There’s no point having an industryleading product if the packaging doesn’t make it easy to sell it.
Unior has unveiled a packaging refresh as part of its recent rebranding initiative, with the focus on modernisation and sustainability. That refresh sees Unior employ a contemporary look, emphasising the quality of the brand, Unior’s innovation and the allimportant user experience.
Among the chief features is enhanced product presentation. 3D visualisation showcases the product more effectively, clever colour palettes establish the product hierarchy and even the words are easier to read thanks to clearer typography.
Retailers, merchants and distributors will also be happy to hear that optimised packaging reduces the storage footprint in stores and warehouses too, making it easier to squeeze the maximum out of shopfloor and warehouse square footage.
Sustainability
As you might expect in modern times, ecoconscious materials and practices have been figured into the rebranding and incorporated in the new packaging. Those packaging updates affect the small cardboard cards, general laminated boxes, special design boxes and cardboard cards with LDPE sleeves.
The small card provides a modern look with the same convenience. The same products are now presented on a new cardboard card with a sleek black plastic attachment. Unior has modernised the packaging design in keeping with the brand refresh (fresh colours, updated graphics), while the card size and functionality are exactly the same. Eyecatching visuals promise to help lure in punters. Meanwhile, the general laminated boxes promise greater durability as well as a more modern design.
Improved functionality: The singlewalled corrugated board has been upgraded for enhanced durability, while there are now only five box size options for cost optimisation and space efficiency.
Design enhancements: The modern pattern features some aesthetically pleasing anthracite banners, while there’s incorporation of website, badge, logo and corporate pattern to reinforce brand consistency. Crucially, the allnew design aesthetic means minimal changes to the box dimensions.
But, Unior stresses, while there have been significant changes on the corporate identity front, the core values of Unior remain: Quality, innovation & sustainability remain at the forefront. Find out more via...
