Thinking Outside The Xbox
Fabric Foible
Nomad by Brentano
Bricolage by Brentano
patrick Jones I don’t know anything about fabrics. More importantly, our wonderful Editorial Director Kelly caught me not knowing anything about fabrics—and man, was it embarrassing. Never, ever hold up good fabric to your interior design veteran of a boss and say, “Hey, Kelly, check out this really nice carpeting.” Her face was the very picture of incredulousness—like I had asked her “What continent is outside of the planet?” or “What time are the Beatles playing at the Alamo Drafthouse tonight?”
Kelly, gratefully, laughed it off and challenged me to research fabrics and to design a room based off of them. I turned to Brentano’s excellent Spring 2012 collection, picked two fabrics, and messed around enough to create a room I felt pretty great about. In particular, the Avram Rusu “Confetti” light fixture is stunningly beautiful—I immediately knew I had to work it into a room. It may not be a perfect space, but I’m satisfied and happy with my first foray into designing around a fabric.
Confetti Glass Collection Pendant by Avram Rusu This incredible piece mixes stainless steel and and glass discs to create a light fixture that is both organic and otherworldly.
Contemporary Coffee Table, GRID by Barlas Baylar I love how this table utilizes beautiful reclaimed wood to give grounding and simplicity to a space.
Curva Sofa by David Rasmussen Gotta love the Danish-inspired rounded edges and the lush yellow fabric.
