Put a cork in it

When I think of cork, the first thing that comes to mind is wine. I had never really thought much about the circular object that stops my precious elixir from going bad when I can’t finish a bottle (which, let’s be honest, is a very rare occurrence). But now I have a whole new appreciation for that spongy sphere. As I’ve been browsing my favorite sites lately, I’ve noticed a surplus of great designs using this often forgotten about mate-

rial. But it’s so very genius to use it for more than just wine stoppers and as a board to puncture with important notes and reminders. Cork can be sexy (see: wedges), is easily pliable, and extremely pleasant to the touch. The fact that it’s a neutral makes it a great material for both décor and fashion. Another bonus? You can print on it to create multi-functional items like the world map above. I’ll just say it: I love cork.

1. Mojave Letterpress Coasters by In Haus Press, $20 for set of 4 - I adore these coasters for their lovely patterns and high absorbency. 2. Lighting Pendant by Jamie Young from Layla Grace, $253 - This pendant light could easily be brought in to any space. Want to get creative? You can hand paint your own design on this blank canvas. A splash of color would be the perfect touch. 3. Cork Snap Wallet by Cicely Siller, $25- This supple wallet wouldn’t weigh down your purse, and could easily be used as a clutch in the evening. 4. Mrs. Roper-Red Print Wedges by Olsenhaus, $265- I am so in love with these shoes that I don’t know what to do with myself. The cork wedge provides great support and cushion, and the bright material is the perfect contrast against the neutral sole. The fact that I couldn’t stand in these won’t stop me from wearing them.
