2: WATER WARS SESSION 2 OVERVIEW FOCUS: Fight the good fight of faith! SCRIPTURE: 1 Timothy 6:11, 12 “Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith.” SCRIPTURE BACKGROUND: First Timothy is a letter from Paul to Timothy encouraging Timothy to preach the gospel and care for the church. Paul looked upon Timothy as a son, and they spent time together traveling, preaching, and sharing their faith. Paul calls Timothy “my true son in the faith,” and they were obviously close. In chapter 6, Paul calls Timothy a “man of God” and charges him to pursue godliness, stand firm in his faith in Jesus, and enjoy the benefits of having eternal life. The short sentence “Fight the good fight of the faith” can remind kids to be God’s children, God’s boys, God’s girls wherever they are. This kind of fight is about running from evil and pursuing righteousness (what God says is right), godliness, faith, love, endurance, gentleness. It’s about standing firm in the faith and holding on to what they believe in Jesus.
