Overview Baldwin Denim is an American made luxury denim brand and menswear collection based in Kansas City. The line is centered around four core fits of premium selvage denim and has expanded into a full line of shirting, pants, shoes, belts and accessories. Every item in the collection is designed in Kansas City and made entirely in the USA. An unrelenting focus on creating quality goods with a timeless aesthetic is what defines Baldwin as a brand. Baldwin products are made not only to last, but are actually intended to improve with each wear and wash. These are garments that transcend passing trends and will remain staple wardrobe items for generations to come. Designed for men and women – Baldwin specializes in refined, tailored fits made from high-grade American and Japanese textiles. Some key features of Baldwin denim include the signature Baldwin white rivet, triple stitched reinforced yoke, chain stiching throughout and heavy-duty, 4oz Missouri steerhide patches. Most important, is the use of high quality, selvedge denim fabrics, sourced Yoke Mills from some the world’s finest mills such as Cone in Greensboro, NC as well as the Kurabo, Kuroki and Kaihara mills located in the ubiquitous, Okayama Prefecture, Japan.

Background Baldwin Denim was founded by Matt Baldwin in 2009. He and his wife, Emily have owned and operated the iconic Standard Style boutiques in the Kansas City area since 2003. Matt launched his namesake line after having spent many years in the clothing industry witnessing niches in the market that he felt compelled to fill. In 2010, Baldwin introduced the menswear collection portion of the company, which features button down oxford, twill and madras shirting, flat front pants and chinos, t-shirts, jackets, shoes and accessories. W Magazine editor, Garrett Munce was quoted saying “one of the best denim jackets I have seen” in reference to the line’s classic, trucker inspired Aaron jacket. Baldwin is now carried in a number of key menswear shops the world over including Steven Alan, American Rag, Stagg in Austin, Stel’s in Boston, Hollywood Ranch Market in Tokyo, Nomad in Toronto, Frans Boone in the Netherlands and Haberdash in Chicago to name but a few. Featured in local, regional and national news including Selectism, GQ, W Magazine, Free & Easy, Garden & Gun, Southern Living, GiltManual, Valetmag, and Complex Magazine in addition to countless blog highlights, Baldwin steadily continues to gain notoriety and attention. Now, looking forward, Baldwin continues striving to design and manufacture quality American made goods and intends to develop and expand the collection with each new season.

Denim The ins and outs of wearing and living in dry denim: The beauty of wearing dry denim is that over time, your garment will soften, conform and eventually fade to reflect your body and lifestyle, essentially becoming unique to you and only you. By starting with a dry or raw pair of jeans and allowing them to break in gradually through daily wear, the denim will stretch and shape to the contours of your body. Regular wear and minimal washing will cause the jeans to crease and fade according to the points of strain, creating a lived in fade pattern that is all your own. In other words, they will look awesome on you and will continue to look more awesome with each passing week, month and year. We encourage you to go as long as possible before your first wash in an effort to maximize the contrast and character of the fade upon washing. When it is finally time for you to wash your jeans, (ideally when you or your significant other simply can’t stand the smell anymore) it is best to turn them inside out and wash them in cold to lukewarm water, using only a minimal amount of detergent. Then hang them to dry. Cold washing and hang drying will increase the lifespan of the jeans, minimize any potential shrinkage and will also help to retain as much indigo dye as possible. Once you feel you’ve attained a beautifully faded pair of Baldwins, we’d love it if you would take some pictures and share your progress with us. Or, better yet, send them in to us and if we like them enough, we just may send them to our wash-house to have a future pre-distressed model created based on your actual pair. We want you to love your Baldwin denim. Wear ‘em hard!
