Your staff are your most important assets. Are you keeping them as safe as possible? If your staff lift heavy objects carelessly they can end up pulling muscles or even worse, suffer long-term damage to their back or upper limbs. So it’s vital that if your business involves lifting, staff know how to do it properly. 75% of injuries caused by manual lifting could be prevented. In the food, drinks and healthcare industries, manual handling and lifting causes 30% of all acute injuries.

If a child in your care hurts themselves or starts to choke, would you know what to do? Never is rapid First Aid treatment more vital than with children. The physiology of young people can be very different from adults – requiring specialist knowledge and techniques. Every year, more than half a million children under the age of 5 need to go to hospital after an accident. We teach on the most common accidents suffered up to the age of puberty. So if the unthinkable happens and a child in your care has an accident, you’ll know exactly what to do.

Having the correct First Aid equipment on site can stop an accident turning into an emergency. Keeping products past their expiry date can be unsafe as products will start to deteriorate and may not be effective. When was the last time you checked the products in your First Aid kit? We have thousands of medical supplies and consumables to deal with any incident, including statutory items required by law. These include: • First Aid kits including specialist and bespoke kits.
We are deeply rooted in the Scottish community and our services are available to everyone, everyday and everywhere. We care for the sick and injured, and teach as many people as possible First Aid skills in Scotland, but we can only continue to do this with your help.
• Eye wash stations and personal protective equipment.
To find our more call 0300 4 666 999, email fundraising@firstaid.org.uk or visit www.firstaid.org.uk
• Signage, publications and posters.
• Specialist First Aid equipment.
• AEDs and medical consumables. We know that businesses need more than just a catalogue of products so we can offer you straightforward solutions to help you meet your requirements and legal obligations. The following is for guidance only and cannot replace the legal requirement for a full risk assessment of your workplace.
supplies@firstaid.org.uk • 0141 332 1828
• All workplaces should, by law, be equipped with a suitable number of appropriately stocked First Aid kits. • First Aid kits must be replenished as items are used and expiry dates are passed. • All employees and visitors should be protected against infection from bacteria. • Effective early treatment of burns significantly reduces the severity of the injury. • If you work with harmful substances, effective eye wash essential. • The chance of survival after the heart stops falls by 10%* for every minute that passes without defibrillation. An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is easy to use and could save a life. • Not having the right fire safety equipment and an appropriate number of trained Fire Marshals can cost lives – and your business. • Clear appropriate signage is a legal requirement for workplaces and work vehicles. • Employees must be protected against all identified hazards with effective personal protection equipment.
• Organisations are required by law to consider safe evacuation and ensure the provision of equipment for assisting those who are disabled or unwell. • Businesses are legally required to have an accident reporting system in place. The HSE Accident book is designed to meet all legal obligations. • Employers have a legal duty to display a Health and Safety Law poster in a prominent position. • Businesses must have an appropriate number of trained First Aiders and Fire Marshals available during all working hours.
Not sure how many First Aid kits you need for your workplace, or what the right kit for you is? Then give us a call and we can help.
