Welcome to

ST ANDREW’S

Thanks for coming along to church today. At St Andrew’s, we want to welcome everyone; Christian believers, those seeking faith, skeptics, all who are looking for a spiritual home in Hong Kong. At each Sunday service we seek to learn more about the truths of God from the Bible, and encourage one another in our faith in Jesus. If you’re new, come along to the red welcome table in the north entrance foyer after the service. We’d love to be able to meet you, welcome you personally, and answer any of your questions.

TnT CONFERENCE From Thursday 18th to Sunday 21st January, St Andrew’s children’s and youth ministries benefitted from having Rory Bell, director of TnT Ministries, come and train our leaders in effective Bible ministry to young people, along with two parenting evenings aimed at helping our parents discover their purpose. Here’s what two of our parents thought of the course: “Parenting with Purpose was a good reminder that we don’t do nearly enough to support our children’s spiritual growth at home. We take it for granted that St Andrew’s has a wonderful children’s ministry in Kidzone with great facilities, a loving and caring environment, a thoughtful curriculum with arts and crafts, play time and songs – and snacks too! But what do we do until the next Sunday fix? The course helped us reassess our priorities – if it’s okay for us to spend hours outside of school to support our child’s academic growth, surely it makes sense for us to foster our child’s spiritual growth too. We cannot leave it to the church alone to guide our children; it must be a partnership. As parents, we need to set our children in the right direction and point them towards God and we need to invest the time too. If your child spends 90 minutes a week at children’s or youth ministry, why not challenge yourself to double it to 180 minutes a week by simply spending 15 minutes a day from Monday to Saturday at home by sharing the Bible?” - Maggie and Sai Man - Parents of Hadrian Man (Kidzone 2013). Personally, it was great to see Rory engaging with children’s and youth leaders across Hong Kong and encouraging them to pursue good Bible teaching in their ministries. Rory will be back in Hong Kong on the 10 March 2018. To find out more go to their website: www.tntministries.org.uk/event/510/engage-training-day Ryan Rudolph Youth Director

Bible Reading Exodus 7:1-13 1

Then the LORD said to Moses, ‘See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron will be your prophet. 2 You are to say everything I command you, and your brother Aaron is to tell Pharaoh to let the Israelites go out of his country. 3 But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and though I multiply my signs and wonders in Egypt, 4 he will not listen to you. Then I will lay my hand on Egypt and with mighty acts of judgment I will bring out my divisions, my people the Israelites. 5 And the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out of it.’ 6

Moses and Aaron did just as the LORD commanded them. 7 Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three when they spoke to Pharaoh. 8

The LORD said to Moses and Aaron, 9 ‘When Pharaoh says to you, “Perform a miracle,” then say to Aaron, “Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh,” and it will become a snake.’

10

So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did just as the LORD commanded. Aaron threw his staff down in front of Pharaoh and his officials, and it became a snake. 11 Pharaoh then summoned the wise men and sorcerers, and the Egyptian magicians also did the same things by their secret arts: 12 each one threw down his staff and it became a snake. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs. 13 Yet Pharaoh’s heart became hard and he would not listen to them, just as the LORD had said.

Next Sermon The Passover Lamb - Exodus 12:1-13

A prayer for those not taking the Lord’s Supper Lord God, guide me and give me wisdom to understand you and how to please you. Your Son Jesus claims to be the way, the truth and the life. Help me to understand his claims, and to comprehend why he said to his followers that his body was broken and his blood was shed for them. If you created the earth, you have the power to help me understand and believe. Please guide and teach me, and help me to know the eternal life with you that you promise in the Bible. Amen
