Welcome to

ST ANDREW’S

Thanks for coming along to church today. At St Andrew’s, we want to welcome everyone; Christian believers, those seeking faith, skeptics, all who are looking for a spiritual home in Hong Kong. At each Sunday service we seek to learn more about the truths of God from the Bible, and encourage one another in our faith in Jesus. If you’re new, come along to the red welcome table in the north entrance foyer after the service. We’d love to be able to meet you, welcome you personally, and answer any of your questions.

CHRISTIANITY EXPLORED TESTIMONY My name is Arianne Baldisimo. I always liked to think of myself as family minded, world oriented and always committed to serving people. I thought that these qualities were the purpose and reason for my life. However, in those times when uncontrollable and difficult situations occurred I was blinded by the thought that I can do this and get through it on my own. This attitude led me to start becoming angry, anxious and unhappy and I started having anxiety attacks. I began to perceive everything negatively and slowly isolated myself. That was 3 years ago. I finally decided to have a personal relationship with Jesus. However, for the past three years I tried to understand Jesus (again) in my own way. Whatever questions I had about Christianity or Jesus I often just googled or remained silent fearing their consequences or the judgement it might entail. However I was glad to join Christianity Explored because when I did, I met people who had similar questions about Jesus. Our leaders listened with an open heart and gave great advice with a healthy dose of humour. Most importantly I did not feel judged by them but was instead encouraged to question and read the bible more and more to find the answers. Every meeting we had led me to this conclusion, that if I kept trying to heal myself on my own without truly understanding and accepting Jesus’ forgiveness for sin and his grace then I am totally lost. My journey to being a Christian is challenging but I am grateful for the community and fellowship the church has given me. Through Christianity Explored I now have a clearer purpose - to serve others I must serve Jesus first. Arianne Baldisimo Christianity Explored attendee

Bible Reading Exodus 19:1-8, 20:1-4 1

On the first day of the third month after the Israelites left Egypt – on that very day – they came to the Desert of Sinai. 2 After they set out from Rephidim, they entered the Desert of Sinai, and Israel camped there in the desert in front of the mountain. 3

Then Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain and said, ‘This is what you are to say to the descendants of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel: 4 “You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. 5 Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, 6 you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.” These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.’ 7

So Moses went back and summoned the elders of the people and set before them all the words the LORD had commanded him to speak. 8 The people all responded together, ‘We will do everything the LORD has said.’ So Moses brought their answer back to the LORD.

1

And God spoke all these words:

2

‘I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

3

‘You shall have no other gods before me.

4

‘You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.

A prayer for those not taking the Lord’s Supper Lord God, guide me and give me wisdom to understand you and how to please you. Your Son Jesus claims to be the way, the truth and the life. Help me to understand his claims, and to comprehend why he said to his followers that his body was broken and his blood was shed for them. If you created the earth, you have the power to help me understand and believe. Please guide and teach me, and help me to know the eternal life with you that you promise in the Bible. Amen
