OCTOBER 2023

MAGAZINE

Mustang enthusiasts have asked for a magazine that has no ads, no sales pitches, and no bogus “fillers” to eat up space. They have asked for a magazine that is free, easy to access, and nothing but focused on Mustang pictures and content. They have asked for a magazine produced and written by Mustang owners. They have asked for a magazine that highlights the daily drivers and the average Mustang that is driven and is not a trailer queen. They have asked for the chance to one day have their ride, their group, their club, or their cause to be recognized in print or online. It is our absolute pleasure to meet these standards and to give you STANG Magazine. We hope that both our message and our image will be seen in every Mustang community out there. Thank you Mustang fans and enjoy your ride!

TALKING WITH TJ

As we begin our journey into the descent of madness that is my mind and the crazy antics of my life, I would like to first introduce myself. My name is TJ, blah blah blah, that sums it up and all you need to know. Whew… got past the CRAP no one cares about! Now for the good stuff.

Mustang culture is one that is very unique and brings together people from all walks of life. One thing is for sure though, the STANG Mag crew isn’t your typical crew. We are a bunch of weirdos, oddballs, and outcasts. We party hard and live by our ride or die motto and have adventures like no other.

From partying in various spots all over the U.S., to touring some of America’s most haunted sites, to having my ass spanked by a beautiful Latina in Las Vegas in front of a restaurant packed full of guests (and owning it), it’s never a dull moment! All I can say is... strap in, rev the shit out of your motor, and let’s go!

FORD GRAVE TOUR

Well, Howdy Spookies! It is my favorite time of the year! Yes, that‘s right Halloween! I love Halloween, the crispy cold air, the smell of burning pumpkins, and of course cemeteries. For this month’s spotlight I would love to take you through a cemetery grave tour of some of Mustang’s finest members. So, get into your Mustang, grab your ghost stick and rock out with your block out.

First up on the tour is the final resting place of Henry Ford. He left the racetrack on April 10, 1947 at his home in Fair Lane Estate in Dearborn, MI at 11:40 pm following a cerebral hemorrhage. He was 83 years old. He is located at the Addison Ford Cemetery located in Dearborn, Michigan. It has been told that at the time of his funeral, Ford factories and showrooms worldwide were either closed or held a moment of silence to pay their final respects to such a legendary ghoul. An estimated 100,000 mourners had attended his funeral.

Next up on the tour is Carroll Shelby. He crossed the great race-

way on May 10, 2012 at the age of 89, from what the death certificate listed as pneumonia, but it is well known he had a heart condition as well, which had affected him for years. Now for all you yoots who don’t know, Carroll help created some of our most iconic cars namely the Shelby Cobra 427 that whooped Ferrari’s ass in Europe and of course my ghoulishly favorite the Dodge Viper. His family held a private small ceremony for his takeoff on to heaven’s racetrack. He was buried at Leesburg Cemetery in Leesburg, Texas.

head of yours. He died on November 7, 1980 in Chihuahua, Mexico, at the yootful age of 50, a few days after surgery to remove tumors from his lungs. He had been diagnosed with terminal mesothelioma lung cancer in 1979, possible brought on by asbestos exposure from his asbestos crash suit he would wear while filming his own stunts on various movies. His ashes were scattered at sea in the Pacific Ocean. Ghoul Fact, his last words were “Lo Hice” or “I did it” in Spanish. So next time you are near the Pacific Ocean, stop and pay your respects to Mr. Bullitt, himself.

And finally, my personal favorite, Mr. Bullitt himself, Steve McQueen. Now I don’t need to introduce him, if you don’t know Bullitt, then honestly, you’re a brain-dead ghoul and let the pheasants feast on what is inside of that hollow

Well, it’s been real, but like all things alive, it’s time to depart into the afterworld. While I cape up, don’t forget to remember all those of yesteryears who paved the current path for you today. Hope to see all you yoots soon!

I met Daniel Ramey at a Beltway Mustang show and won my spot with STANG Magazine in their Carlisle Ford Nationals display. Needless to say I wasn’t sure what to expect being that I didn’t know the people attending and was going by myself.

AS I GOT CLOSER TO PURCHASING THAT MODEL, I CAME ACROSS A TRIPLE YELLOW CONVERTIBLE...

If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. I loved that car but acquiring this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!

My passion for Mustang began with a rental Race Red Ecoboost and a trip to central Florida. After spending a week in that Mustang, I was hooked. Only I didn’t want just ANY Mustang, I wanted a convertible and it had to be unique. After months of debate, test drives, and searching, I had decided on a 2014 Sterling Gray Metallic base V6 convertible, but that was to be short lived. As I got closer to purchasing that model, I came across a Triple Yellow convertible that I fell in love with and the rest is history.

My V6 convertible AKA the “Banana” is a fully stock V6 with no major modifications currently. There have been some minor upgrades such as the addition of the Niche 19” Verona gloss black wheels, an MMD by Foose color matched rear spoiler from American Muscle, rear tail light sequencer add in, LED side marker lights and LED sequential front turn signals with daytime running lights from Diode Dynamics as well as Raxiom LED fog lamps, also from American Muscle. However, there are more planned mods in the not so distant future.

The STANG Mag family welcomed me in from the very start and made me feel like one of their own!

A CAR SHOULD STIR THE SOUL WHEN YOU DRIVE IT...

I been a fan of Mustangs since childhood when the painter my dad hired drove a two tone 89 Mustang GT with dark blue on top and grey on the bottom with the turbine wheels. Later on, one of my school teachers bought a 93 Cobra in teal that was just beautiful. I wrote a letter to Ford asking if I could have any Mustang posters to hang on my bedroom wall like most kids my age and they sent me the new for 1994 Mustang GT poster. I knew one day I’d have to own a Mustang.

Flash forward to 2020, my local dealer had a 2020 Mustang GT in black and the rest is history. A car should stir the soul when you drive it, make you look forward to the next drive and this car does that. If I had a long week or just need to clear my head, I fire up Black Beauty and listen to the engine and exhaust echo off the mountains on the Blue Ridge Parkway while the smile on my face grows.

Mods include 19x9.5 Avanti Rims on 255/40r19 front and 285/35r19 in the rear, Roush CAI, and C&L axle back exhaust.

TO FINALLY EXPERIENCE THE EVENT IN MY OWN MUSTANG MADE ME FALL EVEN MORE IN LOVE...

MEMBERS OF THE STANG MAG FAMILY ARE MORE PASSIONATE ABOUT FUN AND INCLUSION THAN THEY ARE THEIR CARS AND THAT SAYS A LOT!

I have always had a passion for cars but my love for Mustangs started when I met my husband and he took me to my first Mustang week and I knew I had to have one. Shortly after I purchased my first Mustang, a six speed Oxford White 2015 Ecoboost Mustang, I was proud to finally be a Mustang owner and I began modifying it immediately. It was lowered, muffler delete, tuned and a few small cosmetic touches. But the four cylinder just wasn’t cutting it for me and I found my self driving my husband’s corvette more often than my own car so I knew I had to have a GT.

The search for a Mustang GT began and it didn’t take long before we came across a 5 speed 2006 Windveil Mustang GT at a local Volkswagen dealership. It was love at first sight. The car was bone stock except for an exhaust. I took it to the following Mustang week and being able to finally experience the event in my own Mustang made me fall even more in love with my car but it was just a little too stock for my taste so we

ordered some wheels and coilovers as soon as we got back and it hasn’t stopped evolving. We have since had a daughter and its a passion for these cars that I’m excited to pass down to her. She already has a pink Mustang walker and a 2005 Mustang GT Power Wheels waiting for her when she is big enough to drive it. Now my car calls home next to my husband’s 2004 Mach 1 and I can’t wait to see where it goes from here.

THE LOOK, THE SOUND, THE FEEL IS AWESOME.

This is Eleanor, my 2022 Mustang GT Premium. I became obsessed with Mustangs in 1968 thanks to Steve McQueen. This is my fifth Mustang and definitely my favorite. The look, the sound, the feel is awesome.

I passed my love of Mustangs to my son, David. He has had even more than me. I upgraded my painted aluminum wheels to chrome FOOSE. All I can say is... BEAUTIFUL!

IT DEFINITELY HAS SOME GIDDY UP!

This is my 2013 Gotta Have It Green Roush Stage 3 Mustang. My love for the Mustang began in high school and I was excited to be able to purchase my first, a 1993 Foxbody, when I graduated from college. Since then I’ve owned five additional Mustangs ranging in years from 1988-2013. Over the years I have been involved in several different car clubs and because of the Mustang I’ve been able to meet a lot of nice people and have made some great friends along the way. Last year, my Roush won a Gold at the Mustang Club of America National show in Buffalo, NY. In the summer months I can be found detailing my car for shows or cruising around the NY Finger Lakes.

Modifications? I have some hydro dipped parts under the hood: radiator shroud, fuse box cover, battery cover and some billet engine caps. It also has the Phase 3 kit which increases the horsepower and torque from 565 hp/505 ft-lbs to 675 hp/585 ft-lbs. It definitely has some

Growing up I’ve always had a passion for cars, coming from parents with two Chevrolet muscle cars. My passion for Mustangs truly started with my boyfriend Craig, attending car shows with him and helping modify his Mustang. In June 2022 we tragically lost Craig. In September of 2022 I decided to factory order my very own Mustang for me and my daughter to keep the traditions we started with Craig alive. I took delivery of my 2023 Mischievous Purple Mustang GT Performance Package on January 11, 2023, which happened to be Caroll Shelby’s 100th birthday.

I find no greater joy than driving, modifying, and attending car shows in my Mustang with my daughter. We’ve made many friends attending Mustang events that I consider family. Not only do we enjoy car events and vacations together, but they have carried me through one of the most difficult times in my life. I wouldn’t have them if it wasn’t for our shared passion of Mustangs.

Our Mustang carries Craig’s memory with us..

IT TOOK ME 42 YEARS, BUT I DID IT!

Since I was a little girl, I dreamed of having a Mustang. I always loved American muscle cars, and still do, but the ponies had my heart! Then, as I got older and started going to shows with my friends, I dreamed of having a car to bring to Carlisle Nationals. I was finally able to fulfill one dream in 2020 and the second in 2021. It took me 42 years, but I did it!

I decided she needed to be fancier for her debut at the 2021 Carlisle Ford Nationals, so I had her wrapped, added stripes, and made a few modifications...

Unfortunately, the guy that did the wrap, didn’t prep the car correctly and the wrap started to peel. He refused to fix it, so we had to take the wrap off and have her painted. She got painted - 4 times! 1 - The metallic flakes separated from the paint, causing tiger stripes. 2 - The car port in my driveway flew up and scratched all but the driver’s door.

3 - When I got my car back, I found too many flaws and sent her back in, so they had to shoot the whole car again!

4 - The final result! But wait ... it gets even better! Hard to believe - I know! A third dream came true in 2022 at Nationals... Regina and I placed 2nd Place!

I have always been a Mustanger. Coming from a Ford family, it was inevitable. Over the years, I have owned several Mustangs. Starting out with a ‘95 GT (all stock), then a ‘93 GT (also, all stock), then moved to a ‘94 Cobra (slightly modified), and now I currently own this ‘13 Boss 302 and a ‘15 Stage 1 Roush. Oh, how my youth was FUN tearing up the streets of Jacksonville, Florida. But, I learned quickly that, as a CDL holder, tearing up the streets was not good for my career or insurance rates. I tapped out of the Mustang scene for a decade, even though it was my passion.

After maturing for a while, I wanted to jump back in with both feet. I started by journey by searching for a ‘13 or ‘14 Shelby GT500. Along that journey, I discovered the Boss 302. After learning the history, R&D that went into

“JUST THE TIP

TURBO VS. SUPERCHARGER

Turbo. You’ll hear people use the term “free power”. This is true. The Turbo is attached to the exhaust of the engine. It’s basically a fan that gets spun by the exhaust gasses passing over it. The other side is attached to the air intake. So as the exhaust is coming out of the engine, it’s spinning the Turbo, which is pulling air in through the intake to blow, or force, it into the cylinder. Pros of this option are Power versus Size. These allow for smaller engines, like

the Eco-boost to produce much more power relative to their size. They are also a higher efficiency as they run off of energy that is typically lost in a NA Engine. Some of the disadvantages of the Turbo is the lag from when you step on the gas, until the Turbo is spinning fast enough from the exhaust, to provide enough boost to increase the horsepower of the engine. Another is that Turbos get very hot since one side of the system is directly in the exhaust stream. Therefore, the bearing between the exhaust and

intake sides of the system gets very hot, and that bearing is lubricated with oil from the engine. Hotter oil means quicker oil breakdown, so oil changes may be needed more frequently under high performance applications.

Supercharger. A Supercharger is a style of forced air induction that is attached to the engine, but has no interaction with the exhaust. It gets its power from the engine itself, by being belt-driven. Just like your power steering pump, alternator, AC, etc. As the belt spins the Supercharger, it turns 2 augers inside of the Supercharger unit, which is pulling air in through the intake to blow, or force,

it into the cylinder. There’s no lag in boost. The biggest disadvantage of this type of system is that it’s not free power. When the engine is not running, none of the belts are moving, as it takes a certain amount of power to turn a pulley. By running the Supercharger, you are robbing power that could be used to power and move the car, just to run the Supercharger itself.

Is one better than the other? Everyone has their opinion. Both have their pros and their cons. If you can’t decide on which route to go, you can actually do both at the same time! It’s called Twin Charging!
