THE 500–2007 SHELBY GT 500

BEING INTRODUCED TO SO MANY CARS AND WHAT COULD BE DONE WITH THEM REALLY IGNITED MY PASSION FOR CARS.

As a kid I always enjoyed tinkering with anything that had an engine to try and make it go faster. My first introduction to the car world was through my dad. He bought many cars and trucks to fix up and resell. Some of my favorites were a 1963 Corvette that was at the World of Wheels show, a 1978 Ford extended cab 4x4 pick up, and a 1967 Camaro convertible. He and his friend could do anything on a car: interior, exterior, engine, you name it. They could do custom paint from metal flake to crushed glass and old school lacquer. Being introduced to so many cars and what could be done with them really ignited my passion for cars.

I got into the Foxbody Mustangs in the mid-80s. In 1989, my brother bought a Mustang GT. Back then fuel injection was very intimidating, but that didn’t stop us from diving in and figuring it out. As the years went on we got more familiar with the platform. There weren’t many aftermarket products and we usually had to figure out how to pick up horsepower for the 5.0 HO engines without the things available today. We owned that car for 20 years and in that time, we drag raced using engine combinations from mildly modified 302 small blocks to heavily modified big block Fords. It went from a small tire car to a tubbed out big tire car.

Since then I have owned countless Mustangs. I enjoy buying project cars to fix up and put back together. Currently there are 12 cars in my collection, from project cars to fun cruisers. Some of my favorite Mustangs are the odd ball Foxbodys and some of the lower production Mustangs. Some of my favorites in the current collection are the 1985 Saleen, the 1979 Indy Pace Car, the 2005 Saleen, and of course the 2007 Shelby GT 500.
