Mustang enthusiasts have asked for a magazine that has no ads, no sales pitches, and no bogus “fillers” to eat up space. They have asked for a magazine that is free, easy to access, and nothing but focused on Mustang pictures and content. They have asked for a magazine produced and written by Mustang owners. They have asked for a magazine that highlights the daily drivers and the average Mustang that is driven and is not a trailer queen. They have asked for the chance to one day have their ride, their group, their club, or their cause to be recognized in print or online. It is our absolute pleasure to meet these standards and to give you STANG Magazine. We hope that both our message and our image will be seen in every Mustang community out there. Thank you Mustang fans and enjoy your ride!

TALKING WITH TJ

As we begin our journey into the descent of madness that is my mind and the crazy antics of my life, I would like to first introduce myself. My name is TJ, blah blah blah, that sums it up and all you need to know. Whew… got past the CRAP no one cares about! Now for the good stuff.

Mustang culture is one that is very unique and brings together people from all walks of life. One thing is for sure though, the STANG Mag crew isn’t your typical crew. We are a bunch of weirdos, oddballs, and outcasts. We party hard and live by our ride or die motto and have adventures like no other.

From partying in various spots all over the U.S., to touring some of America’s most haunted sites, to having my ass spanked by a beautiful Latina in Las Vegas in front of a restaurant packed full of guests (and owning it), it’s never a dull moment! All I can say is... strap in, rev the shit out of your motor, and let’s go!

THE BIRTH OF THE MUSTANG

Hello Everyone! It’s April and the car season is in full swing. I hope you are ready because I am. April holds a special place in Mustang history. It was on April 17, 1964 that the Ford Mustang was officially introduced at the New York World’s Fair. Essentially the Ford Mustang was a repackaged and restyled Ford Falcon. So how did Ford roll out one of the most successful cars in American history? Instead of focusing on the car for their marketing efforts, they chose to focus on how the Mustang would illicit feelings from the consumer.

To create excitement from the consumers, Ford had bombarded national TV in the days leading up to the introduction of the Mustang with their commercials. There was no talk about engine size, mechanical features, or colors in the commercial. Instead, consumers were exposed to a trendy commercial full of close ups of the Mustang, people having fun on a beach, and people sailing, all with exciting music playing in the background to create the excitement of what it was like owning a Mustang. on the consumer was a message that owning a Mustang was equated to a fun, free spirited, and exciting lifestyle. As the images of the Mustang are shown, a very enthusiast voiceover announces “A new generation of Fords, for the new breeds of Americans who want stick shift action and room for four, who collect sportscar badges and trading stamps, who wants the elegance of a European touring car and until now had to settle for basic transportation… Mustang is the one car that is designed to be designed by you”.

Mustang was marketed as a groundbreaking car and it was. The Mustang had a completely unique style, so Ford wanted to create a young fresh culture to go with the car which resulted in 418,000 units sold in its first calendar year.

Whether you love it or hate it, you know what a Mustang is and that is every marketer’s dream. To market a product so well that it becomes a household name. Proudly this culture still rings through today. Whether you’re a kid or at a retirement age, the Mustang brings out the inner kids in all of us. Now we all know that the original Mustang was originally designed as a secretary car, but we have Lee Iacocca to thank, who reached out to Carroll Shelby shortly after the release of the Mustang and asked for a significant change. Well, that’s gonna be next month’s article! So for now, enjoy your Mustang and proudly continue this 60 year old Mustang legacy.

I have always felt that cars are meant to be driven. I believe that there should be a certain amount of love for and enjoyment from the vehicle you’ve chosen to get behind the wheel of. From the time I started to drive, I was a consummate GM owner. Every time I picked up a new project, it was anything but a Ford simply because they did nothing for me… until everything changed. You see, life circumstances dictated that it was time for a new fast car. So, of course I immediately went to test drive a Camaro and it just didn’t feel right. I was uncomfortable, unimpressed, and disappointed. What does a GM guy do when there is no GM to buy? I found myself driving past several car dealerships in a frustrated mental fog… and then there she was.

Since that day over a decade ago, I have driven her over 50,000 miles, used her occasionally as a daily, and finally began to modify her gradually after my youngest son graduated high school. Chips A’hoy earned her name due to the fact that she is driven regularly with love and gratitude. Whether we’re on the highway or the back roads she always manages to come home with a new chip in her paint. Every single chip is a tapestry that tells the story of how a car changed my life and brought me to the people I needed most at just the right time.

I have always been a car enthusiast. The first car that I bought with my own money was a 1994 V6 Mustang Coupe. Since that car, I have had about 20 other vehicles but keep coming back to the Mustang. I have owned a 2003 Steeda GT Convertible, 2014 GT Coupe, and now my pride and joy, the 2020 GT Convertible.

If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. I loved that car but acquiring this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!

I never had a family that was huge into vehicles let alone Mustangs but owning my own Mustang was my goal. I have been a Mustang fanatic since I was a kid. My best friend’s parents had a T-top four-eye GT 5.0 and he drove it all the time. We cruised around in it all the time and that is when I decided that it was my goal to get the Mustang of my dreams. I bought a 1984 Ford Mustang LX which did not satisfy my dream but it was a start. Then I sold it as I needed a better vehicle for a family. Like most, I am sure family came along and dreams are put on hold. When I finally had no kids at home I decided it was time again to make my dream come true. As the years went on I searched and dreamt about the Mustang of my dreams. Every day I searched for the Mustang I wanted. Then a few days before my 51st birthday I found my Stang. My wife and I went to look at it, took it for a test drive, and the

next thing I knew the day I turned 51 I had my Stang. Since then I have had some custom artwork done under the hood by Corradomurals in Ontario and hydro-dipped parts in the engine compartment.

When I joined the GMR and I received my number, #0755, I felt very proud of my Stang. I have felt that my Stang has enough power for me so I have not done any mods to the engine since I bought it. I am very proud of my Stang and it is a head turner due to the color. Got to have it Green was my favorite green in the Mustang colors.

High horsepower, muscle car, and a great sound are attributes associated with our beloved Mustangs. In fact, many Mustang owners will at one point take their baby to the dragstrip to test their investment and hopefully gain bragging rights among friends or on social media. While this is what I have noticed in general among Mustang enthusiasts over 25 years, there’s more to our adored Mustangs than just going straight fast, there’s autocross. With some basic suspension and brake modifications our Mustangs can become a competitive and fun car to toss around cones in a large parking lot. Autocross is fun, cheap, safe, and you’ll learn to be a better driver on the road. Every car enthusiast should experience it, regardless of what car you own. You won’t regret it.

looked back; the adrenaline for those 50 seconds or so was awesome, and I was hooked! Now I just needed to find a real car for this type of racing. That same year, I moved onto a 1991 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4. Not exactly your preferred autocross vehicle with two tons of lovin’ packing around a parking lot. However, I remember it being exceptional in the rain. A couple years later and I moved onto a more suitable autocross car, a 1989 L98 6-speed Corvette. However, this would be a short run, due to engine failure at Lime Rock Raceway. The oil pump failed which resulted in a cracked crankshaft and a bad motor rebuild, that was the end of that. In 2002, I purchased a red 2000 Mustang Roush Stage II. I loved it! It sounded awesome, power (mostly torque) was enough (for that era) and the Roush suspension package gave it the ability to be competitive around the parking lot. But, as time went on, I eventually got the itch for something else so fast forward

to 2017 and seven cars later since the Roush, I circled back to the Mustang. I purchased the Mustang (originally silver) from a local Craigslist ad in the summer of 2017, bone stock with 90,000 miles.

The intent was a purpose-built autocrosser with the useability of the occasional Sunday cruise. Why did I settle back on the Mustang? Simple. I wanted to come back to a car that is easy to work on, not packed with technology, reliable, less expensive, competitive, and fun to drive. My Roush had all that. So, the return to the New Edge Mustang was an easy choice. With the work that has been done, the car handles amazing. It’s perfect and way better than the Roush. Six years later and I have no intention of parting ways. I love this Mustang!

THESE CARS ARE MORE THAN JUST CARS TO US.

The day my husband came home with his first Mustang, I knew I needed one. I will be honest, I hadn’t had much experience with Mustangs growing up. But I do remember being in high school and one of my friends had gotten a older convertible GT, a 94-95. It was a teal color and I was in love. A/C worked, radio was great for jammin to our tunes on the way to track practice, and you got the fresh air in your hair the whole way. It was my dream to own a Mustang like hers.

Fast forward many years, my husband came home with his first Mustang about two years ago. It’s a red ‘99 GT (named Red) and she’s the mean, lean, burnout machine. The day he pulled it into the driveway, I knew it was the first of many to come. And I knew I wanted one. A few months later, he got his 2016 GT 5.0 Competition Orange stang and I was IN LOVE. It was everything a Mustang owner could dream of, at least to me. Then he got me my baby, Quicksilver. She may be a 2013 V6 with a 3.7, but she’s a daily for me and it’s everything I could ever ask for.

We joined a local mustang club in our area, Iowa Mustangs Unstabled back around December 2021 I believe. By far the BEST decision we could have made. These cars are more than just cars to us. They’re a part of the family. We’ve made so many good friends and memories exploring the roads of Iowa and cruising from town to town with the group. I couldn’t be more thankful to be a part of all of the Mustang groups we are in now.

The car is a work in progress and always changing. I use the car for drag and drive events. I’ve been doing Hot Rod Dragweek for about 6 years now. When I bought the car it was stock with a B cam and Cobra intake. Over time I upgraded to a On3 turbo kit with a 5 speed. That was fun but wanted to see better and more consistant times at the track. That is when I upgraded to the 4r70w that is in the car now. After a while, I had a fuel pump failure that took out the motor. Then I decided to upgrade the car with a Dss Level 20 331 with a Vortech v2 S trim making 12 lbs of boost. Then decided to get rid of the stock EFI for a Holley Terminator X system. And that is where the car is at now.

MY FIRST WHEELIE WAS AMAZING AND I’M PROUD TO SAY I STAYED IN IT!

My name is Tom Ullery. I’m a Navy Veteran and have always loved fast cars! I got into drag racing with my wife in our 50s and it’s the best hobby ever! I bought my ‘91 Foxbody as a roller and with the help of a friend, it turned into a racecar in 3 1/2 years! Road Rage is an all motor SBF with a 1150 Holly Dominator, C4 Transmission that runs 8.90 @ 151 mph. It has a newly certified 8.50 cage and all work on this car was done by professionals in the racing industry!

What started as a street/strip car quickly turned into a fast drag car. I participated in the NMCA Circuit (open comp) traveling to five different states. As a rookie, I had great success with this car and ended up in the top 16 in points out of 60 drivers! My first wheelie was amazing and I’m proud to say I stayed in it! Unfortunately, due to now being on permanent disability, I am forced to sell this amazing ride and dream car. My injuries make it difficult to maintain this type of car! MY WIFE AND I HAVE HAD A PASSION AND LOVE FOR COOL CARS AND TRUCKS SINCE WE WERE BOTH KIDS, ESPECIALLY FORDS!

MEMBERS OF THE STANG MAG FAMILY ARE MORE PASSIONATE ABOUT FUN AND INCLUSION THAN THEY ARE THEIR CARS AND THAT SAYS A LOT!

My wife and I have had a passion and love for cool cars and trucks since we were both kids, especially Fords! In October 2018, I experienced an unexpected head injury that has left me with life long problems. My doctors told me to retire and get a new hobby. So, I did!

If you asked me if I thought I’d be writing an article for STANG Magazine for my car this time last year I would’ve said no. If you asked me if I would be writing it about a different car than the 2005 Roush Mustang I had I would’ve said hell no. I loved that car but acquiring this one reinvigorated my passion for car shows and events!

On the 15th of April 2019, my wife and I welcomed our new son and our new hobby into our lives. We got a 2006 Ford Mustang Vista Blue V6 4.0HP. His name is Sxy VouDou. He is named after me! Lol... I’m from New Orleans, and my motherin-law, Kittye, calls me VooDoo. So, when she saw the Mustang, she called it Sxy VouDou! The name stuck like glue! And bam, he was named! He is much like one of our kids or grandkids, SPOILED! We have given him several mods and are constantly giving him more! His next glamorous beautification will be his interior and than who knows!

VouDou has been a part of the family for four years now and has definitely brought plenty of joy, excitement, and new car friends/family to our lives. He is absolutely our grandest, most expensive hobby! At the moment of getting VouDou, little did we know of how much pleasure, enjoyment, and relaxation we would get out of building and creating our son and our hobby! VouDou is strictly a show car. He is not driven unless it is for a show or special occasion. And of course, when we need to get out for a Sunday drive to chill and relax or feel the need for speed! ZOOM ZOOM.

“JUST THE TIP

IT’S GETTING HOT IN HERE!

We’ve finally hit that time of year where winter starts to ease it grasp, and warmer, more favorable conditions are starting to arrive. Several months ago, we had gone over some Tips to get your car ready for winter, but did you know that you should de-winterize your ride? Now that we’re getting ready to hit the road for cruises and trips, here are a few easy steps to pull your car out of winter mode, and get it ready to roll:

Wash that thing – This is probably the most important thing you do coming out of winter, especially those of us in the northern areas of the country. Road salt that is added to road surfaces to melt ice and snow will wreak havoc on your car. The buildup of salt on your cars exterior will slowing leech away the paint, and will cause more vulnerable exposed metal parts to rust prematurely. While most of the time you may take your car to an automatic car wash, this is one time when a good had wash is essential. Wash

it well, and focus on the undercarriage, wheel wells, and other crevices where salt and road grim could build up and cause damage.

Check tires and alignment – Driving in the winter months can be very difficult on a car. If your like us and live here in Pennsylvania (Nationally known for having the worst roads in the country), driving through potholes, ruts, and anything else on the road can knock your cars alignment out of whack, damage tires, and even speed up the dry rot of tires due to the amount of road salt. Check air pressure and tires for any cuts or visible missing chunks.

Wiper blades – Wiper blades can take a beating during the winter. Running over frozen, snowy windows for extended periods of time can cause the bladed to start to tear. Check them out and change them proactively if you have any concerns, so they don’t tear completely off when you really need them.

Oil change – Some vehicles allow for different oil weights to be run in a cars engine, where a thinner oil can be run in the winter, and heavier, more standard oil in the summer. If you went with a thinner oil blend over the last 3 or months, now is the time to change it back.
