THE
Weekend Guide
In 2012 the Portsmouth Culture Partnership began to draw up plans to re-launch the Southsea Show. Not intended to copy the old show but to draw on some of its key ingredients, around a new focus on showcasing the best of the city’s extensive and diverse cultural offer. After receiving support from Portsmouth City Council in May 2013, plans were put into action and the first new-look Show took place in August, attended by over 17,000 people. The event is not-for-profit and any surpluses achieved will be re-invested in the event and local cultural activities. The Southsea Show Committee consists of Portsmouth Cultural Trust, the charity in charge of the Guildhall (Chief Exec, Andy Grays), Wedgewood Rooms (General Manager, Geoff Priestley), Cellars at Eastney (Programme Director, Steve Pitt), Kings Theatre (Chief Exec, David Cooper), Love Southsea (Louise Whitmore), Community Action Portsmouth (Anna Potten), Express FM (Sales Manager Darren Gamblen), Joel Ransom, MG Security (Mark Graham), Technical Services (Adam & Julian Kemp) with, of course, the help of their teams. The Committee is closely supported by a large number of local organisations, including Parkwood Community Leisure, Manic Stage Productions, New Theatre Royal, The King Street Tavern, Aspex Gallery, Community Fusion and Portsmouth City Council. We would particularly like to thank our headline sponsor for 2014, The Richmond Motor Group, for helping to make it all possible.

Have a wander around when you arrive and plan your day, so that you make sure you don’t miss something you’d like to see, especially some of our Big Top, Theatre and Music events and on Saturday and Sunday, the Tigers Motorcycle Display Team.

Have-a-Go Fundraising Village Here you will find lots of locally based charities. Rather than selling things or just asking for donations, they’ve brought along lots of traditional village fete-style activities for you to try, whilst they raise much needed funds at the same time. This year, the Southsea Show is delighted to be helping to support nearly 30 local good causes. Last year, in excess of £3000 was raised at the Show, so we are hoping to beat that this time around. Your support of these organisations is very much appreciated. So whether it is a coconut shy or a fishing game, pay them a visit and have-a-go!
eauty
The Food Village There are a range of food stalls available to cater for as many different tastes as possible, from the festival favourite the burger, to roast meats and even Thai, so take a break, grab a bite and then carry on!
eauty
The Market Village Ok, so we know you didn’t come to the show just for the shopping but the Love Southsea market features local crafts and trades people showing what they do, and for a fee you can take some of that home with you.
Also in the Market Village... The Pie & Vinyl and 101 Reykjavik Tea Tent We’ve brought you a cool corner of Southsea for the weekend. Pie & Vinyl combine traditional comfort food with a vinyl record store. You’ll find them nestled in Castle Road in their stylish and cosy record café as well as at The Cellars and other locations putting on some rather lovely live music events and also at Southsea Fest and Victorious Festival, curating their own stages. 101 Reykjavik, located on the corner of Castle Road, is inspired by Iceland, a ‘kaffibar’ with a warm, relaxed and welcoming environment, a haven from our ever increasingly busy lives to everyone who enters. They aim to provide you with simple, honest food and drink in a friendly setting that perfectly encapsulates the unique spirit of downtown Reykjavík. These two popular local businesses have teamed up to present a very different place to hang out at The Show all weekend. There will be things to buy and things to listen to and, of course... tea & pies!!
