2 - A Salute to Our Veterans ~ 2015 ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★

Twenty-four pages of “Thank you!” This publication is one big “Thank you!” from our readers and advertisers to the men and women who have served us all in the armed forces. This 24-page special section features faces and names of some 500 men and women with ties to our local area who have served their country in uniform. Take a look inside for the faces and names you recognize, but also think about the years of service represented, the sacrifices made and the security gained for the nation whose call to serve they willingly accepted. Whether they served directly in combat or not, each of the veterans here took

an oath to defend us all, our country, our values, the promise to the world that the American ideal represents. Some followed a career in the military, but for most, their service required putting the rest of their lives on hold while they honored their commitment to country. Thanks to our readers who appreciate this opportunity to use this section as one way to remember our veterans on Veterans Day, and thanks to the sponsors listed on these pages, who agree that this is a worthy effort. A Veteran’s Quality AOC Harry L Keneman, USN (Ret.)

Military personnel who served this nation in times of international conflict are known as VETERANS. Once their service was completed, whether it was just during the term of conflict, or through professional retirement, that person was reborn. They left the military as entirely different individuals than the one who originally marched off to war. A series of possible qualities may have contributed to their survival, some of which may be reflected below.

The Shipmate Locater service is an exclusive service provided to all Tin Can Sailors whereby anyone can search for a former shipmate for just a $12 donation. Simply call Tin Can Sailors Headquarters at 800-223-5535 and provide the full name (middle names or initials are very helpful), actual or estimated age, Navy rank/rating, years aboard which ship, home town, plus any other information you have to help make a successful search. Payment can be made either by check or credit card, and is due only upon notification of success, V: The “V” might describe the VIGOR and VITALITY even if the person is found to be deceased. displayed by our veteran’s mental and physical We attempt to provide maximum information for all successstrength exercised in order to endure and survive ful searches. Definition of a Veteran

“A Veteran – whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve – is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to “The United States of America,” for an amount of “up to and including my life.” That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.” Continued... The term VETERANS may include all, or part, of the qualities or abilities covered above. However, on second thought, we might look back and also face the fact that our survival may have been due to damned outstanding GOOD LUCK!

More than one way to honor veterans

Another meaningful way to honor local veterans is to attend their upcoming breakfast at the American Legion hall in Electric City. They don’t charge for it but do accept donations. That happens on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, from 6:30 a.m. to noon. Donations will go to their LR Banner/Scoreboard Fund. A banner has already been donated for display in the school gym, and the group is helping to raise funds for a new athletic

field scoreboard.Yet another way the Grand Coulee Dam community honors veterans is through the work of the Isle of Flags committee, which organizes a ceremony each Memorial Day, pictured here from last May, displaying flags at Spring Canyon Cemetery to honor more than 500 veterans.

All of us at Coulee Medical Center are honored to serve those who have served us
