Plenty of names hang on a Trees of Sharing tree at Coulee Hardware Monday.
Trees of Sharing seeks to help more than 200 children There’s still plenty of time to take a “wish” ornament for the community “Trees of Sharing” program. Take a “wish” ornament, return a gift by Dec. 13, and you’ll make some boy or girl happy during the holiday. Trees of Sharing are located in Coulee Hardware,Safeway Pharmacy, North Cascades National Bank, the Coulee Dam Federal Credit Union, Bank of America and Harvest Foods. The ornament will tell the age of the boy or girl that you are purchasing the gift for, their clothing sizes and any special wishes. Names of children are submit-
ted into collection boxes placed throughout the community earlier in the season. This year’s effort seeks to get gifts into the hands of some 212 children in 93 families. “Thanksgiving weekend is usually a time when people will hit the streets and do their shopping,” noted volunteer Linda Black, “but I don’t know if they did that this year, it was so cold and snowy. We’ll see what happens in the next few days.” The Trees of Sharing community encourages you to shop locally. When shopping is complete and the gift is wrapped, attach
the paper ornament to it and return to any Trees of Sharing tree. The gift will be delivered on Saturday, Dec. 18. If you have any questions or
would like to help, call Black at 633-3611 or Mary Ann Boll, 6330305. The Trees of Sharing is a community-wide program sponsored by local churches.

Food bank Federal employees expecting a lot of drive for food customers, givers The Care and Share Food Bank is gearing up for an active Christmas season. Fern Blaylock, manager of the food bank, said the organization served 177 families for Thanksgiving and she expects almost that many food boxes for Christmas. “We’ve got a wonderful caring community here,” Blaylock said. “People just keep giving to help other people.” She credits the recent Boy Scout food drive as proof of how people help. “We got over 2,000 pounds of food from the Scout drive,” Blaylock said. The businesses, banks, grocery stores, all have been “steady” givers, Blaylock stated. The Coulee Dam Federal Credit Union is collecting food and cash donations through December 20. Safeway has food sacks premade for the food bank and they are selling well, a spokesman said. Customers can buy sacks of food already appropriate for the food bank, ranging in price from $5 to $15. The sacks are picked up by the food bank daily. Blaylock said the Christmas food deliveries will be made on Monday, Dec. 20.
Great Gift Idea! Electric City & Coulee Dam T-Shirts & Sweatshirts T-Shirts
Those who are bringing food to the food bank location in the lower level of the Church of the Nazarene can call Blaylock at 633-2472, and she will help accommodate them. “It’s probably not a good idea to leave the food outside with the cold weather,” Blaylock stated.
The Grand Coulee Dam Federal Employees Association kicks off its food drive to help the Care & Share Food Bank today (Dec. 1). The drive will continue through Dec. 15. The group will have boxes at the USBR, the National Park Service and post offices. The federal employees would appreciate any donations people could make to the drive. Officials at the food bank estimate that they will have to prepare for nearly 170 families this year during the Christmas season. Members of the group will deliver the food to the food bank.

Gingerbread house event next week Looking for some good family sport during the holidays? Don’t look any further. Plan on taking the kids to the PTA-sponsored Gingerbread House event at the Grand Coulee Dam Middle School, 5-7:30 p.m., Dec. 16, in the cafeteria. PTA spokesperson Tammy Nichols said the first gingerbread
house is free with additional houses a $10 donation each. The houses are essentially built, and materials for decorating the houses are available. Each person in the family can build his or her own house.
Chamber event set for Saturday Christmas Elegance, an evening of entertainment, starts Saturday at 6 p.m. at the American Legion’s Veterans Center. Chamber workers decorated the Electric City venue and are all set for Saturday’s wine and beer tasting and auction event. Chamber Manager Susan Miller said only a few tickets remain and admission is by ad-
FRESH
vance ticket purchase only. Miller said only 150 tickets to the event will be sold. The event features Northwest wines and microbrews and both
a silent and live auction. Those seeking tickets can call the Grand Coulee Dam Area Chamber of Commerce office to see if any are available at 633-3074.
