Most of us were taught as kids that too much of a good thing usually ends in overwhelm or disappointment. I can recall many stomach aches as a child after eating one too many cookies or candy bars.
Fortunately for Star® Roses and Plants and you, our customer, this expression does not apply as it pertains to our relationships with worldrenowned rose breeders. We have strong and long-lasting collaborations with Kordes® Roses, the House of Meilland, Dr. Jim Sproul, and Rose Innovations, LLC led by Will Radler. Each of these breeder relationships has served us well in the past and what makes them special is their consistent development of exceptional and innovative genetics.
As such, 2024 is a banner year for roses. The eight outstanding varieties introduced in this year’s catalog offer you improvements in disease resistance, powerful fragrance, and the sought-after characteristics needed to thrive on the West Coast.
the knock out ® family of roses is growing
Orange Glow™ Knock Out® (pg. 16) Will Radler has done it again with this luminescent orange addition to the best-selling rose brand of all time! True to Knock Out® form, this rose has it all with mild fragrance, high petal count, and great performance on the West Coast.
Easy Bee-zy™ Knock Out® (pg. 16) A great improvement on Sunny Knock Out® from the Star® Roses and Plants breeding team. With a successful propagation rate of over 90%, this variety will be readily available for your customers to enjoy.
Desert Sky™ (pg. 77) An incredible brick orange Floribunda with exceptional performance on the West Coast.
Cherries & Champagne™ (pg. 40) A unique red and yellow bicolor that finishes pink and cream.
Romantica® Ball Gown™ (pg. 56) English roses have nothing on this incredibly fragrant Hybrid Tea with one of the highest petal counts ever seen.
Sunblaze® Dragon Fruit (pg. 29) and Sunblaze® Watermelon (pg. 32) These two additions set a new standard for disease resistance and color vibrancy in the Sunblaze® collection.
a powerful rose from dr. jim sproul
PowerPuff™ Pink (pg. 83) Last, but certainly not least, is this electric pink Floribunda that produces so many flowers you will need only one stem to fill a vase.
I know that introducing eight new varieties in one catalog is higher than our norm, but I am confident in our breeders and believe these genetics warrant consideration as additions to your rose program.
As always, I am very thankful that you trust Star® Roses and Plants to be your preferred supplier of roses. Our talented employees and external partners work tirelessly to ensure all our products bring you continued success.

The House of Meilland® represents the longest relationship in our history, illustrated by very famous roses along the way, including Peace, Bonica® and Eden Climber® to name a few. Meilland® is the most awarded foreign breeder in North America. They are also the breeder of Drift® Roses, the most popular rose series after Knock Out® in North America.
Almost thirty years ago, on May 5th, 1992, we received a seedling we coded internally as CP 4642. The rose world hasn’t been the same since, as this code went on to become the original Knock Out® Rose bred by Will Radler. Sitting Pretty™ is another breakthrough, as it is one of the first Zone 4 hardy, fragrant Grandiflora Roses.
Way before he became a Professor of Horticulture, Dr. David Zlesak began breeding roses. Inspired by Will Radler, who he considers to be his mentor, he has been breeding roses since he was a teenager. We are proud to have introduced the Pretty Polly® series, which is the first compact, Zone 4 hardy, ever-blooming series of Polyanthas.
Kordes® is the latest addition in our long tradition of aligning ourselves with the best breeders in the world. Kordes® is one of the most successful rose families in the world, and we are very proud to be their North American partner. This relationship enables us to introduce world class roses and series, such as Veranda®, Kolorscape®, Arborose®, and others.
For twenty-two years, Julie has been on a personal mission to develop the perfect rose for northern climates: a disease-resistant rose as pretty as a Hybrid Tea and hardy enough to survive northern winters. The result of her efforts is Cherry Frost™, the first cane hardy climber suitable for Zone 4.
Dr. James Sproul is a physician by training who has dedicated his extra time to breeding roses since his very early years. Jim has especially been interested in Rosa Hulthemia, a wild rose species from the plateau of central Asia. After twenty long years of work, he has brought us great introductions like Brick House® Pink, which is quickly becoming one of our best-selling Floribundas.
For nearly 20 years, NeuHouse Farms has been cultivating their legacy and position as a leading producer of roses. Born from a partnership built on four generations of family heritage and horticultural passion in San Joaquín Valley, CA, the farm today is run by Dan Waterhouse and Nancy Neufeld, who with their fathers collaborated to found NeuHouse Farms in 2004. Original founding partner, Jim Neufeld, remains an integral contributor to the operation.
This deep-seeded commitment and tradition is evident in the first detail you find when visiting the farm’s website, which reads “Rooted in the past & growing for the future.” Remaining true to their vision, NeuHouse Farms relies on both generational expertise and innovative agricultural techniques and technology to produce exceptional crops that mark the standard for the horticulture industry.
Millions of roses in over 270 varieties are grown at NeuHouse Farms annually, including the notable Knock Out® and Drift® roses. In addition to bare root crop, the land is cultivated to produce rose trees and shrubs, almonds, pistachios, and a variety of row crops.
While rose production is at the heart of the operation, the magic of NeuHouse Farms lies in the culture. Authentic respect for the land, its ecology, and other people is the underlying current that has carried their success across four generations and counting.
We recognize how critical it is to have a dependable supply chain of genetics. For that reason, we partner with some of the leading growers around the country to provide you with a quality selection of product forms and input sizes that will meet your needs.

This is the most effective method to finish a blooming plant quickly. These hardy plants come to your operation dormant, ready to be potted and grown for spring sales. We harvest and ship the roses at the proper times, helping to ensure your successful crop. Healthy and well-branched, our grade #1 roses have a minimum of three substantial canes measuring at least ⅜” in caliper. Our grade # 1½ roses generally have two to three canes with a ⅜” caliper.
Graded bare root roses in bundles of five are packed and palletized for shipping to most locations. Boxes are floor loaded for ease of delivery to your location. For larger orders, we offer palletized shipping in larger corrugated boxes. Quantities vary per container based on bundle and container sizes.
Our wrapped pot program makes roses easy— easy to handle, merchandise, sell, and plant. Each pot is delivered with a color label. Little maintenance is required since the plastic bag keeps the soil moist, extending the shelf life of the product and your early sales season. Customers can plant the fiber pot directly in the soil.
Our rose varieties are also available as own root plugs and liners, which are produced in state-of-the-art facilities in multiple locations. A variety of standard plug sizes are available, as well as additional varieties. For current offerings, check with your Territory Manager. (pg. 145)
