Sun Devil Fitness

Intramurals

Enjoy friendly competition? ASU offers a wide variety of sports in the fall and spring. All students that are currently in WP Carey School of Business, Fulton School of Engineering, New College, CISA or University Housing have access to Sun Devil Fitness facilities and programs on all campuses through payment of their ASU registration fees. If there are no intramurals on your campus, don’t sweat it! You can participate in any intramural activity at any campus so long as you have SDFC membership.

Intramurals include but are not limited to: flag football, indoor soccer, indoor volleyball, and basketball.

Group Wellness Classes

Taking wellness classes can be a good way to not only get in some great movement, but to make great friends as well! Weekly classes can range from yoga, to martial arts, to dancing, spin, and strength training - even painting! All you have to do is bring yourself and have fun!

The fun doesn’t stop there!

Table tennis, live sports, weight rooms, physical therapy, various cardio machines, and more may be at your disposal at your campus’s fitness center. The best way to fully see what’s in store for you is to go!

Don’t have a membership for Sun Devil Fitness? SDFC memberships cost $25 for a full academic year, or $15 for only one semester.

Biking on Campus

Bike Registration

If you plan on bringing your bike to campus, you may want to consider getting it registered through the university. With registration comes a unique identifier that can be useful in the event your bike is stolen or misplaced, and can have other benefits as well!

Bike Co-Op

Located in the back of the Sun Devil Fitness Complex (SDFC), the Bike Co-Op is a service that assists students in making sure their bikes are running smoothly and efficiently. They sell routine maintenance items, fix bikes, and have many used spare parts that are available for those who need them. The Bike Co-Op can also order virtually any part you need for your bike, from goodquality economical parts to high- end, high-performance equipment, at prices lower than you can find at virtually any bike shop. USG also provides a Free Bike Rental Program, in which any student can rent out free bikes for two week periods at a time. The hours of operation of the Bike Co-Op are Monday- Friday, 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM.

Bike Valet

Among the many open bike racks found throughout campus, there are gated areas where bikes can be stored as well. These bike valets are a safer place to store your bike when out and about on campus, as they are directly supervised by people (if not gated off altogether) and cannot simply be entered. To make use of these valets, to register your bike through ASU.

Walk Only Zones

All around campus, you may notice signs with people in reflective vests nearby. This indicates the start (or end) of an area known as a Walk Only Zone. Walk Only Zones are areas that are frequently too densely packed with people for biking, scootering, or skateboarding safely, and tend to be in the middle of campus. When approaching a Walk Only Zone, you should do one of two things: get off your bike, scooter, or skateboard and walk, or go around the Walk Only Zone altogether - sometimes going around the Walk Only Zone can be faster!

Bike Safety

For the safety of yourself and others, always make sure to follow recommended bike safety rules, including but not limited to:

• Always follow local traffic laws; do not ride, especially in the bike lanes, into opposing traffic.

• Use hand signals to communicate your actions.

• E-bikes, e-scooters, and e-skateboards are not allowed on campus.

• Dress appropriately when riding your bike. Wear a helmet, knee and elbow pads, and close-toed shoes! Avoid any loose clothing that has a chance of catching in your bike chain or wheels.

• Make sure that you are highly visible with reflective clothing, lights, etc. if biking at night.

8

Can’t make it? Try visiting SunDevilSync to find the organizations that best suit you!

Greek Life

Joining a Fraternity or Sorority is a great way to create lifelong friendships, make career connections, and give back to your community. Alpha Chi Omega, Delta Sigma, Lambda Gamma Beta Tau, Theta Tau, etc.

Housing Laws

When living on your own, off-campus, it is good to keep up to date with your local housing laws. Major laws to keep up with include Arizona’s disability laws, Tempe’s housing code, and the Arizona Residential Landlord and Tenant act.

Considering living off campus? Thinking of moving to a different apartment? The Housing Guide can be a valuable resource for learning much of what to know about living off-campus, as well as providing simple, easy-to-understand information about many of the apartment complexes surrounding each of ASU’s four campuses.

From the LiveSafe app, resources such as the Safety Escort Service, GoSafe, and other safety and emergency options are readily available, including contacting ASU PD and reporting. LiveSafe also provides alerts and advisories when something has happened nearby, such as a power outage, crime, water leak, or fire. Depending on the severity, these advisories and alerts will also be sent to you via text message and email. The ASU LiveSafe mobile app does not replace 911 emergency services or any local police department communications.
