Wonders & Worries A family’s illness. A child’s journey. Meredith Cooper, executive director and co-founder, started envisioning Wonders & Worries when she was a pediatric oncology child life specialist at Children’s Hospital in Austin working with children who had cancer. At the same time, she was occasionally called to help with adult cancer patients. This happened when a nurse or social worker realized their patient was a parent, and sought Meredith out to “do something” in the patient’s last week of life. It became her passion to create a program that would provide support for children and parents when the parent faced illness. Wonders & Worries is a bilingual organization (English and Spanish) providing free, individual and group support for children 2-18 who have a parent with a serious illness. They also offer free

parent consultation and bereavement support for Wonders & Worries families. They also hold family fun events four times a year. These events began when Meredith realized that parents with illness often do not have the energy or finances to plan normal family outings. This translated into kids not having fun stories to share or pictures of the family smiling together. No one else in the country offers comprehensive, ongoing support for children and parents when a parent has a serious illness. The cornerstone of their support is an exclusive, six-session Illness Education Curriculum, which provides the basis for families to communicate together — regardless of the child’s age or the parent’s specific illness.

Black Fret Patrons of Local Music

Just like the symphony, theater and opera have been supported for generations. Black Fret believes Austin’s internationally recognized local music is worthy of community support. To that end, Black Fret has created a unique limited membership 501(c)(3) charity offering over 30 intimate performances each year featuring Austin’s finest musicians. Tutta Italiana Fine Italian Imports Own a piece of Italy Katherine Fields, Tutta Italiana’s owner and president, lived in Naples, Italy, from 1980 to 1982. While there, she soaked in the culture, which included studying breathtaking Italian works of art. Now a resident of Austin, Katherine has had the opportunity to observe and appreciate the beautiful architecture in and around Austin and surrounding lakes. She realized that short of traveling to Italy itself, there existed a limited opportunity for people to see, touch and own what she knew existed in Italy: inlaid wood of mahogany, elm, walnut, Spanish cedar, brier (to name a few); ceramics in dishware; home decor; large ceramic animals; hand painted ceramic table tops; leather bags and purses; fine wine and breathtaking art. No sweat shops, just Italian artisans working with their hands, bringing all of it to life in Tutta Italiana (Everything Italian). The store encompasses merchandise from three regions of Italy — Sorrento, Tuscany and Deruta — and neighboring Malta and features carefully selected, custom-made,

hand-crafted merchandise for both the home and garden. If you have a favorite pattern from home, bring a sample and Tutta Italiana’s Italian suppliers will look to their master artisans to replicate it in dishware, table tops or home decor such as an urn or pot. The possibilities are endless, and although Italy is an ocean away, Tutta Italiana makes it possible to own a piece of Italy’s best, delivered right to your home or carried from the store in Marble Falls.
