A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR OF THE BOARD Dear Friends, Welcome to State Theatre New Jersey’s 2018 Gala! The annual Benefit Gala is our most important fundraising event of the year and we thank you for being part of it. The support of friends like you who believe in our mission enables the State Theatre to present renowned international artists, sustain arts education programs that enrich children from pre-K through grade 12, and continue to overcome the barriers to arts access. Tonight, we recognize and pay tribute to three exceptional honorees: Betty Wold Johnson, Bank of America, and Doug and Diane Garback. Their dedicated commitment has had a remarkable impact on State Theatre New Jersey and the community for many years, ensuring the performing arts are accessible and affordable to people of all ages and backgrounds. I give our sincere thanks to each of our honorees for their exemplary leadership in philanthropy, stewardship of our non-profit organization, and their vision to elevate the arts across our region. I would also like to express my personal gratitude to the entire Gala committee for their hard work in making this event such a success. A special thank you goes to the Gala leadership team—Co-Chairs John Fitzgerald and John Reissner; Vice Chairs Matt and Tracy Taylor, and Linda Piscadlo; and Corporate Co-Chairs Craig Guiffre from American Benefits Consulting and Tim Brown from MetLife—for their unwavering commitment.

A MESSAGE FROM THE GALA VICE CHAIRS Dear Gala Guests, Thank you for joining us for tonight’s celebration. We have a magnificent evening planned and I am grateful to each and every one of you for being here and contributing to the success of this inspirational not-for-profit organization. Throughout my tenure at Johnson & Johnson, I saw colleagues across the entire company devote their time and energy to giving back to the community, by championing causes that are invaluable to our neighborhoods near and far. State Theatre New Jersey opens the eyes and minds of children from across the state to a world of diverse cultures, and brings these opportunities to teachers, families, seniors, veterans—and many people whose only means of experiencing the joys of the performing arts may be through this venue. Through your table and underwriter sponsorships, Gala event and performance tickets, and Silent Auction, 50/50 tickets and Wine Pull purchases, you help to make all of this possible. I applaud each and every one of you for your meaningful support and wish you a very memorable evening. Warm best, Linda Piscadlo

Good Evening Everyone,

Your donations—tonight and year-round as ticketholders and members—help the State Theatre bring the performing arts to more than 200,000 people each year. We’d like to applaud all of the individuals, businesses, and organizations that contributed so generously to this year’s Silent Auction. There is an exciting array of items and experiences open for bidding, and we welcome everyone to visit bidpal.net/stnjgala to check out all of the items in our auction; item winners do not have to be present at the dinner to win. Our thanks go to each of you for your support of our 2018 Gala. We look forward to seeing you on the dance floor. With thanks, Matthew and Tracy Taylor

STATE THEATRE NEW JERSEY 2018 BENEFIT GALA

And welcome to State Theatre New Jersey’s annual Benefit Gala. We are proud to return as Vice Chairs for this year’s event, as the arts has had an enduring foothold in our family’s life. As one of our daughters has chosen a career as a professional ballet dancer, we are especially committed to ensuring the success of this theater for generations to come.

9

Congratulations to Betty Wold Johnson, recipient of the Leadership in Arts Award, for inspiring a love of the arts and for supporting art education in our home state of New Jersey.

BENEFITGala 2018

CORPORATE HONOREE Bank of America began serving New Jersey more than 190 years ago. We are guided by a common purpose to help make financial lives better through the power of every connection. We deliver on this through a focus on responsible growth and environmental, social, and governance leadership. Through these efforts, we are driving growth—investing in the success of our employees, helping to create jobs, develop communities, foster economic mobility, and address society’s biggest challenges—while managing risk and providing a return to our clients and our business.

We are proud to call State Theatre New Jersey a partner.

STATE THEATRE NEW JERSEY 2018 BENEFIT GALA

Our support of the arts reflects our belief that the ARTS MATTER: They help economies thrive, help individuals connect with each other and across cultures, and educate and enrich societies. We support nonprofit arts institutions that deliver both the visual and performing arts, provide inspirational and educational sustenance, anchor communities, create jobs, complement school curricula, and generate substantial revenue for local businesses. On a global scale, the arts speak to us in a universal language that provides pathways to greater cultural understanding. We believe the neighborhood playhouse can be as important as the world-class museum or orchestra in its value to the community, in the lives of its citizens and in the education of its young people. Combined with our charitable foundation employee Matching Gifts program, we support more than 2,000 arts organizations worldwide.

13

Doug and Diane Garback along with the Garback Agency team, would like to thank the State Theatre Board, Gala Committee and the entire staff for their passion and dedication to the arts and the theatre. We would like to congratulate all the honorees at this year’s Gala.

PATRON HONOREES DOUGLAS AND DIANE GARBACK THE GARBACK AGENCY

Serving the local community for over 30 years with Prudential—The Garback Agency, we developed a strong desire to find a way to give back locally. With our drive to help guide our clients to their own personal financial wellness goals, participating in something bigger than our local firm became a priority. The office location in North Brunswick (just one block from New Brunswick) enabled us to frequent this theater, and thereby foster a true fondness for the local arts. Supporting the arts through State Theatre New Jersey has been a passion for both of us over the years. Donating our time by serving on various committees has been a way of giving back to our local community as we truly believe charity begins at “home.” Donating through gifts (along with matching gifts by Prudential) was equally as important to us for the future sustainability of the theater. STATE THEATRE NEW JERSEY 2018 BENEFIT GALA

We continue to be excited by the State Theatre New Jersey and what the future holds for it!

ABOUT THE ARTIST KOOL & THE GANG

Kool & The Gang have influenced the music of three generations. Thanks to songs like “Celebration,” “Cherish,” “Jungle Boogie,” “Summer Madness” and “Open Sesame,” they’ve earned two Grammy Awards®, seven American Music Awards, 25 Top Ten R&B hits, nine Top Ten Pop hits and 31 gold and platinum albums. Kool & The Gang has performed continuously for the past 43 years, longer than any R&B group in history. Their bulletproof funk and jazzy arrangements have also made them the most sampled band of all time. Today, the group enjoys global fame and recognition and a following that spans generations due in part to the group’s widely sampled catalogue. Kool & The Gang’s drum beats, bass, guitar and signature horn lines lace the tracks of numerous artists including the Beastie Boys, Jay-Z, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Cypress Hill, and P. Diddy. Their music is also featured on the soundtracks for Rocky, Saturday Night Fever, Pulp Fiction, Wreck-It Ralph, and countless others. Kool & The Gang has continued to tour the world, appearing with artists such as Kid Rock, Dave Matthews Band, Elton John, The Roots, and a 50-city tour with Van Halen.
