JIM BREUER
This program is made possible in part through a grant by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
JIM BREUER
ABOUT THE ARTIST JIM BREUER With over 20 years of stand-up comedy experience, Jim Breuer remains one of today’s top entertainers and continues to win over audiences with his off-the-wall humor and lovable personality. Named one of Comedy Central’s “100 Greatest StandUps of All Time,” Breuer is one of the most recognizable comedians in the business, known for his charismatic stage antics, dead-on impressions, and family-friendly stand-up. In addition to keeping busy on his current comedy tour, Breuer can be heard on his weekly podcast The Metal In Me which is available for download on BlogTalkRadio and airs Thursdays 7pm8pm on Opie Radio Sirius/XM. Even as a young student at Valley Stream Central High School in Long Island, NY, Breuer knew he wanted to be a stand-up comedian. After spending several years working comedy clubs across the country, Breuer settled in as a regular on the New York comedy club circuit. After being in New York for only seven months, Breuer landed a gig on the nationally syndicated show, Uptown Comedy Club, where he spent two seasons. Later he appeared on ABC’s Home Improvement starring funny man Tim Allen, before making his big break which came in 1995 when he joined the cast of NBC’s legendary Saturday Night Live. During his four years on SNL, Breuer quickly became a fan-favorite for his original character “Goat Boy” and his dead-on impressions of actor Joe Pesci. In 2008, Breuer set out for his “Breuniversity Tour” with his 85-year-old father and a film crew. The footage that was captured blended together to create The Jim Breuer Road Journals, which showcased what life is like on the road with a come-
dian and his father. Videos from that tour also sparked the making of his documentary More Than Me, which was shown at the 2009 Montreal Film Festival. In July of 2009, Breuer’s one-hour Comedy Central special Let’s Clear the Air premiered with hilarious topics that included what “success” really is, his SNL days, and life with his elderly parents, his wife, and his three daughters. In 2011, Breuer embarked on a national tour with three of the country’s top comedians, Dave Attell, Bill Burr, and Jim Norton, for “The Anti-Social Network” tour. That same year, Breuer’s acclaimed autobiography, I’m Not High: (But I’ve Got a Lot of Crazy Stories about Life as a Goat Boy, a Dad, and a Spiritual Warrior), was released on paperback. In the memoir, Breuer sheds light on his early struggles, his rise to fame and the many lessons he’s learned along the way in an extremely funny, yet personal and touching way that fans have never seen before. In 2015, Breuer released his all new one hour comedy special on EPIX, Jim Breuer: Comic Frenzy. The latest special focuses on what Breuer’s life (and all of our lives) truly consists of: dealing with the elderly, becoming our parents’ caretakers, parenting teenagers, and what it takes to be a “marriage warrior.” Breuer recently released his debut Metal album Songs From The Garage on May 27 with his new band “Jim Breuer and The Loud & Rowdy” through Metal Blade Records. Throughout the years, Breuer has supported various charities through his comedy, including the Chris Farley Foundation, MusiCares, his local police and fire departments, and more. Breuer currently resides in New Jersey where he enjoys spending time with his family, playing pick-up games of baseball, softball, and whiffle ball and watching the NY Mets.

AN EVENING WITH GILBERTO SANTA ROSA
ABOUT THE ARTIST GILBERTO SANTA ROSA Gilberto Santa Rosa’s musical elegance and style has made him one of the most prominent figures in popular music. His countless accolades in the recording industry reaffirm his validity through the years, among them the 2002 ASCAP Latin Heritage Award, six Grammy ® Awards most recently, Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for Necesito Un Bolero. His rewarding musical path and consistency as one of the most listened to recording artists on the radio having achieved 14 number one hits on Billboard’s Tropical Airplay chart, record sales history including a multitude of Gold, Platinum, and Multi-Platinum album certifications, and the honor of being the artist with the most #1’s on Billboard’s Tropical albums chart (12 in total) make him one of the most successful Latin music vocalists in the world. On January 6, 1975 he had his national debut as a vocalist on a televised Christmas special. This marked the beginning of a wonderful musical career that lasted for more than three decades. His presence with La Grande orchestra for two years, as well as his participation with the groups Don Perigñon, Fantasía Boricua of Manolito Rodríguez, and the Puerto Rico All Star Tommy Olivencia, placed the young Puerto Rican on an important pedestal in the Salsa movement of the 70’s. Guided by his musical desires, he became part of the Willie Rosario orchestra in 1981. This movement placed him as one of the new voices of the Salsa movement in Puerto Rico as well as the international scene. The union to Willie Rosario added musical hits like “Lluvia” and “Botaron la pelota,” songs that have transcended through time. His path as a solo singer was established in the second half of 80’s; a period where he became known as the “Caballero de la Salsa”. Santa Rosa’s unique style as a tropical artist appeared in early albums Salsa en Movimiento, Keeping Cool, Good Vibrations
and De Amor y Salsa, for Combo Records. After 1990, Santa Rosa became part of multinational record label Sony Discos (currently Sony Music Latin), recording almost 20 albums including such hits as; Perspectiva (1991), A dos tiempos de un tiempo (1992), “En Vivo Desde Carnegie Hall” (1995), Esencia (1996), Expresión (1999), Intenso (2001), Sólo bolero (2003), Auténtico (2004), Directo al corazón (2006), Contraste (2007), all awarded by the American Recording Association “RIAA” for the success in sales. Also, Una Navidad con Gilberto (2008), Irrepetible (2010), and Gilberto Santa Rosa (2012). Santa Rosa was awarded the Lifetime Culture Achievement award in September 2012 in New York City. By the South-South News Organization, an agency ascribed to the United Nations. This important acknowledgment is given to individuals that have performed significant contributions for world development. In 2013, Gilberto debuted on Broadway, where he was an invited guest in the musical production revival of Forever Tango at the Walter Kerr Theater. His performance showed his great stage charisma and variety of talents captivating the American public while singing Tangos and Ballads. 2015 was a wonderful year for Gilberto. In March he received the first “Premio Estrella” awarded by the most important Festival in the salsa genre (Día Nacional de la Zalsa), presented in prestigious stages across Peru, Mexico, United States, and many other countries. Also in 2015 Gilberto launched in the U.S. and Puerto Rico his latest album Necesito un Bolero (I need a Ballad). The project, his first for Sony Mexico, is composed of 14 songs and among them four powerful duets with music legends: Marco Antonio Solis, Eugenia Leon, Natalia Lafourcade, and Lena. This album earned him his fifth Latin Grammy ® Award, and first in the Pop field for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.

SYNOPSIS ACT I From forest to city, fairies and humans eagerly encroach upon the city of Athens to celebrate the coming union of Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons, to Theseus, Duke of Athens. On the eve of her wedding to Theseus, Hippolyta, accompanied by her handmaidens, contemplates the lost war to Athens and is visited by Oberon, a past love. Unexpectedly, Theseus arrives to discuss plans for the wedding and to reassure the Queen of her new position in the Athenian court. Egeus arrives at the Palace with Hermia, his disobedient daughter, and demands by the ancient laws of Athens that Theseus force Hermia to consent to marry Demetrius, the suitor of his choice. They are pursued by Lysander, a young man from Athens in love with Hermia; Helena, Hermia’s best friend who loves Demetrius; and Demetrius, who now loves Hermia although he was formerly in love with Helena. Theseus works to unravel the twisted plot and retreats with the gentlemen to discuss the matter further. Hermia confides to Helena that she and Lysander plan to elope. The gentlemen return and Theseus offers Hermia the choice of marriage to Demetrius, the convent, or death. Hermia departs in distress pursued by Egeus, as a band of amateur actors arrive in hopes of presenting a play for the entertainment at the wedding of the Duke and Hippolyta. Hippolyta, not accus-
tomed to the company of such lowly rustic working men, is loath to associate them with her wedding but this merry band of determined actors does their best to win her over. With a little help from Philostrate, Master of the Revels, she finds it hard to resist them. Theseus, although amused by her predicament, steps in to rescue Hippolyta from the troupes’ enthusiasm and he sends them on their way. Helena, in hopes that Demetrius will lose his desire for Hermia, betrays Hermia’s confidence only to find him all the more determined. ACT II As fireflies alight the night, fairies dance and await the coming nuptial, and Lysander and Hermia steal away to Lysander’s Aunt to elope once outside the laws of Athens. Helena, having betrayed Hermia’s secret to Demetrius in the hope of dissuading his love for Hermia, is now resolved to throwing herself at Demetrius’ feet. Demetrius is in desperate pursuit of Hermia. Titania, Queen of the Fairies, has a changeling, and refuses to give it to Oberon. Oberon, King of the Fairies, wants the changeling for his servant but must use the magic of the flower “love-in-idleness,” which when put into the eyes of a sleeping person, makes them fall in love with the first living thing they see upon waking. Oberon’s plan is to distract Titania in order to get the changeling and also to punish Titania for her disobedience. Encountering the Athenian lovers, Oberon orders Puck to put the potion into the eyes of Demetrius in order to aid in Helena’s love for him. Puck mistakes Lysander for Demetrius and upon waking, Lysander see Helena and falls instantly in love with her. Meanwhile, Oberon puts the drops in Titania’s eye while she sleeps. Puck comes upon the amateur acting group practicing for the play and changes the head of the boisterous Nick Bottom into that of an ass. Bottom’s singing wakens Titania and she is instantly heart struck and lavishes amorous attentions upon him. Oberon, having achieved his goal and witnessing the mess Puck has made of the lovers’ attentions, creates a fog to confuse them all and he then puts them to sleep. He removes the spell from Lysander but leaves it upon Demetrius.
THU, OCTOBER 13, 2016 AT 8PM
Awakened by the wedding party in the morning, Theseus, finding Demetrius in love with Helena, over rules Egeus and allows the couples to marry. Titania, in disbelief of the evening’s activities, gives the changeling over to Oberon. Oberon and Titania bless the union of Theseus and Hippolyta and the fairy forest falls into slumber.

THE FAB FAUX
ABOUT THE ARTIST THE FAB FAUX With a commitment to the accurate reproduction of The Beatles’ repertoire, The Fab Faux treat the seminal music with unwavering respect, and are known for their painstaking recreations of the songs (with emphasis on the later works never performed live by the Beatles). Far beyond a cover band, they play the music of The Beatles so impeccably that one must experience it to believe it. Imagine hearing complex material like “Strawberry Fields Forever” or “I Am the Walrus” performed in complete part-perfect renditions; or such harmony-driven songs as “Because,” “Nowhere Man,” and “Paperback Writer,” reproduced not only note-for-note, but with extra vocalists to achieve a double-tracked effect. The musical virtuosity of The Fab Faux—in actuality, five of the hardest working musicians in NYC—completely up-ends the concept of a Beatles tribute band. Far beyond being extended sets of cover versions, their astounding shows are an inspired re-discovery of the Beatles’ musical magic, as The Fab Faux tackles the group’s most demanding material live onstage in a way that has to be experienced to be believed. Calling them, “the greatest Beatles cover band—without the wigs,” Rolling Stone senior editor David Fricke wrote, “the Faux invigorate the artistry of even the Beatles’ most intricate studio masterpieces with top chops and Beatlemaniac glee...” Approaching the songs with the intent of playing them live as accurately in musical reading and in spirit as possible, The Faux’s breathtaking performances tend to dispel all concertgoers’ previous notions of a Beatles tribute act. The Fab Faux are a labor of love that was born in 1998 when Will Lee (who’s played
with all four Beatles), bassist for Paul Shaffer’s CBS Orchestra on The Late Show With David Letterman, decided that he was determined to organize the greatest Beatles band without any props (sans period wardrobe, fake accents, wigs) and focus on the intricacies and soul of the music. Rounding out the line-up are Jimmy Vivino, Music Director/Guitarist for Conan and longtime music partner of Levon Helm, John Sebastian, Laura Nyro, lead-singing drummer/ producer Rich Pagano (Rosanne Cash, Roger Waters, etc.), guitarist Frank Agnello (Marshall Crenshaw, Phoebe Snow, etc.) and multi-instrumentalist Jack Petruzzelli (Joan Osborne [producer, Love And Hate], Patti Smith, etc.). All five principals contribute vocals, making the Faux’s soaring harmonies as resonant as their multi-instrumental chops, which are further enhanced on select shows by the four-piece Hogshead Horns (with Blues Brothers, Blood, Sweat & Tears, and SNL band alums) and The Creme Tangerine Strings. The Faux’s high energy shows have generated serious buzz not only at top NYC venues including sold out shows at Radio City Music Hall and The Beacon Theater in New York City—with Beatles fans, movie stars and world class musicians in attendance—but at major dates in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Park City, Utah (Sundance), Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, and Toronto, among other locales. They’ve headlined five of Liverpool’s annual Beatle Festivals, playing before 35,000 Beatle fanatics—while in England, they had the rare honor of recording an original song at Abbey Road Studios—and also delighted the masses performing live on The Howard Stern Show and The Mark and Brian Show. Benefit and corporate dates have included events for JVC, the N.B.A. and the Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Research Foundation. TV appearances include The Late Show with David Letterman and Conan.

ERIC JOHNSON SOLO AN EVENING OF ACOUSTIC GUITAR AND PIANO
This program is made possible in part through a grant by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
ERIC JOHNSON
ABOUT THE ARTIST ERIC JOHNSON Thirty years after his breakthrough solo release Tones brought him national recognition, Texas guitar legend Eric Johnson is releasing his first all-acoustic album. Showcasing nine original compositions and four covers, EJ is easily Johnson’s most intimate album to date. “Ever since I was young, I’ve played piano and acoustic guitar in my private life,” Johnson says. “This type of music has always been a part of me, but I never showcased it on any kind of bigger level, like a full acoustic record. With EJ, I just decided to be more honest with myself and everybody, and show more of my personal side.” EJ brings listeners as close as possible to hearing Johnson in his own living room, performing songs on piano and steel-string and nylon-string acoustic guitars.
Johnson, long known for his painstaking approach to making records, used a much more immediate approach for the self-produced EJ. “Almost all of that material was cut live,” Johnson explains. “Some of the songs I actually sang and played at the same time—just live in the studio. Recording this way gave it more of an honest realism and organic emotion. Especially on the acoustic, you just have to get in there and play.” On the original compositions “Wonder,” “Fatherly Downs,” and “All Things You Are,” Johnson frames his voice with his prized 1980 Martin D-45, a gift from his late father. He plays the steel-string on his superlative instrumentals “Once Upon a Time in Texas,” “All Things You Are,” and “Song for Irene.” He conjures the beautiful, pensive tones of “Serinidad,” another original instrumental, on a Ramirez nylon-string guitar. A spirited steel-string arrangement of Simon and Garfunkel’s “Mrs. Robinson” rounds out the solo guitar tracks. Johnson recasts another Simon and Garfunkel favorite, “Scarborough Fair,” for voice and piano, and plays piano on the originals “Water Under the Bridge,” “November,” and “Wrapped in a Cloud,” an ensemble track with acoustic bass, cello, drums, and percussion. In a move that’s sure to surprise his fans, Johnson rearranged Jimi Hendrix’ “One Rainy Wish” for guitar and piano, capping the performance with a jazz-inflected piano solo. Rounding out the record is Johnson and guest guitarist Doyle Dykes’ superlative cover of Les Paul and Mary Ford’s 1951 classic, “The World Is Waiting for the Sunshine.”

Throughout his career, Johnson has approached music as a healing force, a way to enhance a listener’s consciousness and conjure joy and inspiration. “That’s what I’ve always appreciated most about other artists,” he says. “Some artists inspire us to wake up and get back to the clarity of consciousness. With this record, I’m trying to do that too, because I appreciate it so much in other people.”
