WELCOME TO THE HISTORIC STATE THEATRE NEW JERSEY! Reade’s State Theatre opened its doors in 1921 as a grand movie palace in the heyday of silent film and vaudeville. It was one of the biggest, most lavish, and modern theaters in the region. The December 26, 1921 opening matinee audience willingly paid the 20 to 50 cents admission. They were treated to a live orchestra concert and feature presentation of the silent film, White Oak. There were also five vaudeville acts, a newsreel, and a nature film. Eventually the vaudeville and silent movies were superseded by films with sound (“talkies”), at which point Radio-Keith Orpheum (RKO) began operating the facility. The RKO logo can still be seen above the brass window boxes at the theater’s entrance.

THE ALL HANDS ON DECK! SHOW

ABOUT OUR SHOW The ALL HANDS ON DECK! Show was born out of gratitude and patriotism. In 2007, I decided to write a show that would not only say “Thank You” to the greatest generation; the men and woman who served our country during WWII and the Korean Conflict; but also, would remind Americans of a time when our country was truly united. Our 1942 Roadshow & Radio Broadcast is very special to me; I spent nearly four years writing it. Saying something important with these songs was my intention. We are reminded every day that our country has challenges. Our songs and deportment all focus on patriotic unity, our “Can Do!” spirit, and what’s right about our country. For younger generations, this show offers a glimpse into our nation’s future. For the senior generations, it offers a trip down memory lane to the best of times. Ultimately, I simply want everyone to leave the theater feeling a little bit better and happier about our country. I chose the Hollywood Victory Caravan, a group of famous Hollywood film stars who toured America by train in early 1942 selling war bonds, as the setting for the show. My research uncovered that no one had ever written a show based on the Caravan. Their road shows raised millions of dollars for the war effort, and no one had ever fully honored them.

1942 was one of the most pivotal years in world history; paving the way for much of the prosperity we enjoy in our great country today. That’s our theme: feeling united, then and now. —Jody Madaras, creator of The ALL HANDS ON DECK! Show

TOTO

ABOUT THE SHOW Historically, few ensembles in the history of recorded music have individually or collectively had a larger imprint on pop culture than the members of TOTO. As individuals, the band members’ performances can be heard on an astonishing 5,000 albums that together amass a sales history of half a billion albums! Amongst these recordings, NARAS applauded the collected works with 225 Grammy® nominations. Band members were South Park characters, while Family Guy did an entire episode around one of their hits, and most recently Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell scored their honeymoon video to “Africa.” As a band, TOTO has sold over 40 million albums, and today continue to be a worldwide arena draw staging standing room only events across the globe. With over 39 years together and thousands of credits and accolades to their names, TOTO remains one of the top selling touring and recording acts in the world. They are the benchmark by which many artists base their sound and production, and they continue to transcend the standards set by the entire music community, being simply synonymous with musical credibility. Their repertoire continues to be current via high profile usage on both broadcast television and in

films. They are pop culture, and are one of the few 70s bands that have endured the changing trends and styles to a career enjoy a multi-generational fan base. It is not an exaggeration to estimate that 95% of the world’s population has heard a performance by a member of TOTO. The list of those they individually collaborated with reads like a who’s who of Rock & Roll Hall of Famers, alongside the biggest names in music. The band took a page from their heroes The Beatles playbook and created a collective that features multiple singers, songwriters, producers, and multi-instrumentalists. In 2015, TOTO released their first new studio album in ten years—TOTO IV. The album exhibited world-class musicianship, masterful arrangements, topical lyrical commentary, and melodies that the collective genius of Lukather, Paich, Porcaro, Williams, and their assembled band-mates brought to life. It debuted Top 10 in nine countries around the world and became their most successful album since 1988 in the U.S. and UK. In 2016 they released the Blu-Ray/ DVD titled Live At Montreux which quickly charted around the globe as well. With the bands 40th Anniversary happening in 2018, TOTO has major plans in the works to celebrate their enduring career.

mentors through the creative process. Parsons Dance is committed to providing enriching experiences beyond its performances as it seeks to engage audiences of all ages through education and outreach programs; through postshow discussions, open rehearsals, studio showcases, video workshops, open company classes, summer workshops for pre-professional dancers; and in-school workshops for public school students. The company is especially proud of its AutismFriendly Programs initiative, launched in 2016, that, features sensory-friendly workshops and relaxed performances for audiences of all abilities. All these activities are driven by the vision of Artistic Director David Parsons, who, for more than 30 years, has combined his choreographic gifts and talent for training highly skilled dancers with a real passion for the art form.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS DAVID PARSONS (Artistic Director & Co-Founder) has enjoyed a remarkable career as a director, choreographer, performer, master teacher, and producer. Raised in Kansas City, Parsons made it to New York at the age of 17 when he received a scholarship to the Alvin Ailey School. After Ailey, he became an understudy with the Paul Taylor Dance Company and then joined the company as a principal dancer. He stayed for eight years. During summers, he toured with MOMIX; he appeared with Mikhail Baryshnikov and Mark Morris in

the first White Oak tour; and he launched his choreographic career by setting work on the Taylor Company and on the National Ballet of Canada, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Batsheva Dance Company, and the Paris Opera Ballet. After leaving the Taylor company, Parsons was a guest artist with New York City Ballet for four years before his artistic prowess led him to undertake such diverse projects as choreographing Aida at Arena di Verona and producing and co-choreographing María de Buenos Aires at the Skirball Center, as well as 46

creating the choreography for Fool’s Fire, a 1992 film directed by Julie Taymor. Perhaps one of his most thrilling assignments was choreographing and directing the dance elements for Times Square 2000, the 24-hour festivities in Times Square celebrating the turn of the Millennium. Parsons continues his involvement in diverse projects, with his most recent gig taking him to Japan, where he choreographed A Knight’s Tale, a new musical theater work directed by John Caird, who previously directed the Broadway and West End productions of Les Misérables and the London’s National Theatre’s production of Candide. Staged at Tokyo’s iconic Imperial Theatre from July 25 through August 29, 2018, the work featured Japanese pop stars in leading roles. In addition to the more than 75 works that he has created for Parsons Dance, Parsons has received commissions from American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, the American Dance Festival, Jacob’s Pillow, the Spoleto Festival, and Het Muziektheater in Amsterdam, among dozens of others. Heralded by The New York Times as “one of the great movers of modern dance,” Parsons has received many accolades throughout his career, including three Choreography Fellowship Grants from the National Endowment of the Arts; the American Choreography Award; the Dance Magazine Award; a Howard Gilman Fellowship; and the Dance Masters of America Annual Award. In May 2018, he received the Capezio Award, one of the most prestigious awards in dance. Howell Binkley (Resident Lighting Designer/Co-Founder) is the proud cofounder of Parsons Dance for which he has designed more than 70 pieces. His Broadway designs include: Come From Away (2017 Tony® nomination), Allegiance, After Midnight (2014 Tony® nomination), How to Succeed… (2011 Tony® nomination), West Side Story (2009

Tony® nomination), Gypsy starring Patti LuPone, In The Heights (2008 Tony® nomination), Avenue Q, The Full Monty, Parade, Kiss Of The Spider Woman (1993 Tony® nomination). He has made extensive regional and dance works for Alvin Ailey, American Ballet Theatre, Hubbard Street, and The Joffrey Ballet’s Billboards. He is a fivetime Helen Hayes Award recipient and received the 1993 Sir Laurence Olivier Award and the Canadian Dora Award for Kiss of The Spider Woman. Howell also received the 2006 Henry Hewes Design Award; the 2006 Outer Critics Circle Award; and the 2006 Tony Award® for Jersey Boys. In addition, he won both the 2017 Tony Award® and the 2018 Sir Laurence Olivier Award for the lighting design of Hamilton. TREY MCINTYRE (Choreographer) is a choreographer, filmmaker, writer, and photographer. Born in Wichita, Kansas, he trained at North Carolina School of the Arts and Houston Ballet Academy. McIntyre spent 13 years as choreographic associate to Houston Ballet, a position that was created especially for him. He has also created works for American Ballet Theatre, Pennsylvania Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, New York City Ballet, Queensland Ballet, and Stuttgart Ballet to name a few. In 2005, he founded his own dance company, Trey McIntyre Project, which lauded both critically and as a new model of an arts organization. In 2014, he transitioned the company to focus on photography and video projects. He continues to choreograph worldwide and is working on two books of photography, a Patreon site (patreon.com/treymcintyre), as well as a documentary entitled Gravity Hero. McIntyre has received numerous awards and is a United States Artists Fellow.

AVIRODH SHARMA (Composer) One of the nation’s leading tabla players, was born in Trinidad and trained in tabla playing by his parents Dr. Ravideen and Bharati Ramsamooj, founders of New York City’s East Indian Music Academy. A multifaceted artist, Sharma is also a composer and producer of films, fashion shows, radio, documentaries, and television commercials. He has been featured on TV Asia, STARZ NETWORK, NPR Radio, and NY Daily News and has worked with such artists as Riverdance’s Patrick Mangan, David Murry, Karsh Kale, and Sterling Campbell, and many others. Internationally acclaimed, Sharma’s performances have captivated audiences in Italy, Switzerland, Nepal, India, Dominican Republic, Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, and the United States. It’s an honor to collaborate with Parsons Dance. REBECCA JOSUE (General Manager) joined Parsons Dance in 2010 as the Company Manager and Stage Manager, and has been lucky enough to tour with the company both nationally and internationally for the past five seasons. Josue became the General Manager for the 2013-2014 season and continues to tour as well. Before joining Parsons Dance, Josue was a freelance company manager, stage manager, producer, theater administrator, and director. THE FAB FAUX

A HARD DAY’S NIGHT AND REVOLVER IN THEIR ENTIRETIES SAT, NOVEMBER 17, 2018 AT 8PM

53

THE FAB FAUX

ABOUT THE SHOW Most of us never saw The Beatles in concert but The Fab Faux faithfully recreate some of the most extraordinary music ever written and are arguably, the next best thing. Five of the hardest-working musicians from NYC tackle the Beatles’ most demanding material, live. Now in their 20th year performing together, The Fab Faux’s members are Jimmy Vivino (Conan), legendary bassist Will Lee (Late Night with David Letterman), drummer Rich Pagano (Rosanne Cash, Roger Waters), keyboardist Jack Petruzzelli (Joan Osborne, Patti Smith, Rufus Wainwright), and guitarist Frank Agnello (Phoebe Snow, Marshall Crenshaw). They are sometimes aided by The Hogshead Horns and The Creme Tangerine Strings to achieve an uncanny recreation of the Beatles’ complex orchestral sound. The shows set list changes radically: sometimes the White Album in its entirety, sometimes Abbey Road, but most times

a varied themed show. In the end, a soulful and dynamic evening of the greatest music ever written by the most celebrated Beatles band. “The greatest Beatles band, without the wigs” —Rolling Stone
