Invited Talk Title

Internet of Things (IoT) Revolution – Future of Food Trends and Technologies

Abstract IoT is changing the way the world thinks about the food, and how the food industry tackles issues related to food production, quality, distribution, storage, processing, retail, consumption, and disposal. Over 30 billion of connected “things” at the edge of IoT will be installed worldwide by 2021. The amount of data being generated by connected things is massive, which will need to be collected, stored, managed and analyzed. The vast amounts of IoT data, availability requirements and role of this data will drive the food industry to develop, adopt and deliver more IoT intelligent architectures, IoT distributed computing technologies, and IoT-specific edge networks. These will transform businesses, people's lives and the global economy, and drive growth and massive economic transformations in our food market in the coming years. In this talk, we will discuss how these IoT technologies could change the food industry, as well as their benefits and challenges. We will show what trends, developments, and effects of IoT are expected, how these trends are driving more and more compute, storage and analytics capabilities at the edge, and how we can harness these technologies to bring efficiency across industries, reduce food waste, and enhance consumers’ experiences. Practical examples show where the opportunities and challenges lie. IoT is the largest computing revolution and will penetrate all industries, connecting devices, vehicles or infrastructures, simplifying the continuous access to data, thus enabling better products, more efficient processes and new business models.
