/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ABOUT ME

............................................................................................................................................................................................... I am a 25-year-old architecture student, born and raised in Athens. I am keen on everything that has to do with architecture, industrial and graphic design, photography and I have deep enthusiasm for car design and everything around it. My friends know me as the guy who is always sketching everywhere (pieces of paper, napkins, water bills, cigarette packs, etc.). When not sketching, I like listening to music, reading comic books or maybe just sitting in my living room with a cup of coffee daydreaming. I can’t wait to make my next step, study vehicle design abroad and then go on to pursue my dream job as a designer working for one of the most successful and stylish car industries in the world.

Tάξις, /tákʰ.sis/, from ancient greek τάσσω (tássō, “arrangement, order”)

The theme of my ongoing diploma thesis is to design a vehicle that covers the weakness of current public transport to provide customized privacy and personalised transportation, aiming to re-imagine and organise the way we travel around the city. It is an original and flexible vehicle unit that has the ability to adapt to and meet the needs of each user. New technologies make a considerable contribution. However, the Design is the one that plays a catalytic role in achieving the final result.

Nowadays, the majority of people live in large cities. Transportation is

becoming more and more complex thus exacerbating people’s daily life. The existing means of transport, both private and public, have not managed to solve the difficult equation of getting around the city. The theme of my diploma thesis is to design a vehicle that covers the weakness of current public transport to provide customized privacy and personalised transportation, aiming to re-imagine and organise the way we travel around the city. It is an original and flexible vehicle unit that has the ability to adapt to and meet the needs of each user. New technologies make a considerable contribution. When observing a car, as a project, I see “mobile architecture’’, an object well designed by man for man, an object designed to confront the elements and laws of nature. Thus, car design has a direct relation with the very nature of Architecture.

Design of a building with multiple functions and public character.

Criteria and principles of design. The characteristics of urban space and their importance for design options. The integration of a building into its environment. Expansion in height and vertical structure of the building, public movement and gathering spaces, problemme solving of interior circulation. Layout and character of interior space, the significance of construction materials, colours and lighting for project elaboration. The outdoor common space. Design of interior and outdoor space into a synthetic cohesion of public use. Thorough study of matters concerning the combination of architectural design and construction expression. Formation and design of the supporting structure in great detail. Parameters affecting construction and technology options. Environmental design parameters.

CREATE A GREEN ROOFTOP CONNECTING THE CITY TO THE PARK

Adjust ribbons’ height for maximum views

All inclinations suitable for disabled

Concept The site given is located next to a small park and follows a steep inclination. The concept of this proposal is to design a rooftop following the natural landscape and hide the program of the library underneath. A green ramp is designed to lead the guest from the park to the city and vice versa. The ramp comes to an upraise, which integrates with the scale of the context buildings and offers unobtracted views of the city.

The archive is sut in the lowest level, where it is protected by sun light penetration. The ground level is consisted of an open free reading space surrounded of laboratories, the auditorium stage and the kids section. Following the staircase upstaire, someone can find the computer section and the foyer of the auditorium. Last but not least, the top level hosts a logotherapy centre. The subject of the project was the architectural intervention in a place

with special architectural identity. The main goal is to design a contemporary architecture that would be close to the physiognomy of the area and co-exist with the traditional buildings. The students have to design a building complex at the village of Areopolis. The new building should express the contemporary architecture, but it should also accommodate successfully the municipality, library and laboratory uses that have been given, respecting at the same time the traditional architecture of the village. The uses that have been given to the student are trying to contribute to the revitalization of the village inviting young people to participate and in general to facilitate the life of the citizens, giving them space for multiples events.

The subject of the course was the design of an educational building and its widespread development. The lesson emphasised on issues of perception and appropriation of space, synthesis of repetitive elements and organic relation between closed and open space. Integration in the neighbourhood’s environment and in the urban grid was also required.

The particular solutions is based on physical growth of children of an elementary school which is represnted by the elevation of the building. This elevation contributes to the proper orientation of the classes, while the required separation is based on age. These elements led to the proper function of the entire building complex.

It would be difficult to find another place so strictly and geometrically con-

structed like Tuileries Garden. The organization is defined, of course, by the existence of the major axis, when at the same time the use of French garden leads us to an extremely rigorous result. Walking through that place, we could not ignore the numerous references to water, probably due to the vicinity with the River Seine, which gives life to the city. From the Fountain of River Commerce and Navigation in the Place de la Concorde to the statues of Nile and Danube in the garden, there is a very rich water world, in which the goods that provides to people are accentuated. Today, this aquatic world, with all that it offers, is in danger. To save him, the public information is necessary. A côté alors des références aquatiques du 19ème siècle, dans cet espace tellement fréquenté, nous viendrons y ajouter un centre d’information sur le monde aquatique dont la forme est inspirée par une goutte d’eau. Thus, besides the 19th century’s aquatic references, in this space so frequented, we will come to add an information center for the aquatic world, whose shape is inspired by a drop of water. An island of flyidity inside a rectangular sea.

It is a construction inspired by the can. Cans are constructed to maintain products. In the same spirit our “can“, adopting the central idea of the can, maintains and offers information and goods to the public of the city.

It comes from a well known shape, the can. Because of its form, that is rarely seen in urban construction, the Urban Can is easily perceptible in the city. People perceive that the “cans”, scattered in cityscape, are “containers” of information and service. Furthermore, the character of each Urban Can can be distinguished easily from any angle by its label.

The design of this construction is based on the idea of a cube inside a cube. The inner cube is organised by a 3D grid, shown in the facades.

The construction seem to hover, while it is being supported by an outer structural framework, of cubic shape, as well. The distinction of the bearing structure from the whole is expressed by differentiating the materials. The inner hovering cube is wooden, while the outer supporting construction is metal.
