THROUGH ST BENEDICT’S
St Benedict’s is London’s leading independent, co-educational Catholic school, providing an all-through education from 3 to 18. Like every excellent school, we enable boys and girls to achieve outstanding academic success. St Benedict’s stands out because it goes well beyond this, by helping children to grow as people, socially, emotionally and spiritually. Here, they are valued as individuals and therefore think as individuals. They discover their unique talents and interests and develop personal qualities such as resilience, compassion, empathy and imagination. They learn what they have to offer the world and attain the confidence to show principled leadership. The qualities of a holistic education – breadth, inspiration and challenge – are at the heart of what we offer, and they have never been more important.

NURSERY AND JUNIOR SCHOOL (AGE 3–11) St Benedict’s youngest pupils play and learn in our new Early Years building, designed with nursery and pre-prep children in mind, with direct access to landscaped outdoor learning and play areas. We provide a happy and stimulating environment and aim to meet every child’s individual needs, curiosity and interests.
The transition from Nursery to Pre-Prep 1 (their first school year), and from Pre-Prep 3 into the Junior Department, are made as smooth as possible, so that the children are familiar with the people and facilities around them. We enrich children’s learning at every opportunity with trips, visiting speakers and stimulating events. Specialist teaching is provided from the very beginning in Art, Music, ICT, Games and PE, and Science.
Children’s progress in the Early Years Foundation Stage is excellent from their starting points because progress is facilitated by thorough planning that focuses on their interests and aptitudes.. ISI 2017

Pupils are motivated to be independent learners, inspired to be active participants in their learning, and achieve excellent academic results. A programme of Academic Challenge runs throughout the school. Independent research, visiting speakers and opportunities for debate challenge pupils to be curious, ask questions and to be excited about their learning.

Personal development is nurtured through our extremely wide range of co-curricular activities – through sport, the performing arts, and outdoor pursuits, and there are many opportunities for service and leadership in the life of the school.

SPORT St Benedict’s has a distinguished tradition of sporting excellence. The school promotes the highest sporting aspirations and is committed to physical fitness and sport for all. Sportsmanship is encouraged in all our pupils from a very young age: the personal qualities of leadership, perseverance and commitment, and the positive experience of camaraderie are not just for the games field but for life. Our first class facilities include a Sports Hall (with a fencing salle and multi-gym), full size AstroTurf pitch and 14 acres of grounds.

THE SIXTH FORM St Benedict’s Sixth Form is a vibrant, stimulating place to study A levels, with a strong academic record. Our students are ambitious and gain places at Oxbridge, top Russell Group universities and Medicine and Veterinary schools every year. There are many opportunities for students to extend and deepen their knowledge and understanding at St Benedict’s, through talks from visiting speakers, independent research, and trips in the UK and overseas. Many undertake the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) which challenges them well beyond the A level syllabus. Our impressive new Sixth Form Centre provides separate resources for study and recreation while being a vital part of the wider school community.

NEXT STEPS The Careers Department ensures that all pupils are kept fully up to date with the most recent careers information. There are lunchtime career talks, such as ‘Life as a Lawyer’, and ‘How to make your CV stand out from the crowd,’ and regular career-related visits, activities and events for all year groups. St Benedict’s draws on the extensive and impressive experience of former pupils. Our alumni are extremely generous in giving their time, advice, and in providing work experience opportunities. They also contribute to the biennial St Benedict’s Career Fair and to our Networking and Mentoring programme.
Senior pupils value the opportunities given to shape their own future and speak very highly of the school’s advice in the process of choosing examination subjects and in assessing careers information. ISI 2017
