This vision statement is a reflection of the shared passion for the future of this exceptional school, and for generations of St Catherine’s girls to come. With the dedicated involvement of the St Catherine’s community, the 2020 Vision provides a blueprint for the next five years and, most significantly, articulates and defines the strategic priorities within the educational landscape of the School and the continued reinvigoration of our campus and learning spaces. Since 1896, St Catherine’s School has established a fine tradition of educating generations of remarkable women. Today, the School combines a proud history with contemporary thinking and a commitment to quality education to nurture confident, capable and healthy young women. At St Catherine’s, we aspire to create a rich learning environment that enables young women to thrive and lead in a global society through their dedication to academic achievement, personal integrity and community responsibility. As a non-denominational Christian school, with boarding for rural and international students, St Catherine’s offers an encouraging environment that enables students to develop a passion for learning and scholarship, alongside the opportunity to participate in an extensive range of co-curricular activities. Students are supported to broaden their horizons through involvement in a rich tapestry of national and global experiences and to strengthen their sense of purpose within the world through an understanding of community service. St Catherine’s School is proudly a member of the Alliance of Girls Schools Australasia. We know that single-sex education for the Junior and Senior School years offers girls the greatest opportunity to develop self-worth, leadership and confidence. Our learning environment is tailored to the needs and interests of girls. A recent review of single-sex studies concluded that all-girls’ schools were more frequently associated with higher career aspirations, improved test scores and better learning climates. In other words, girls in girls’ schools are encouraged to believe they are smart and are rewarded for acting on that belief.


The conversations are just different; the talk of what is possible is just different. Studies have shown that girls in single-sex schools are more likely to have: • High occupational status in terms of acquiring leadership roles; • A stronger sense of capability, positive attitude and increased engagement in mathematics and science courses; • Higher achievement test scores; • A decrease in stereotypical views; • More student-teacher interaction and increased focus on class work. As Principal, I am often asked to describe the very essence of St Catherine’s School. Most noteworthy are the authentic learning experiences and quality of teaching provided by our professional and dedicated staff. Their expertise and warmth ensures the provision of a stimulating, tailored and future-focused education, for which St Catherine’s is nationally renowned, defining the School as a leader in girls’ wellbeing and academic achievement. With a dedication to girls’ education, St Catherine’s School provides an enriching and vibrant Student Wellbeing Program that includes an engaging Outdoor Education curriculum and House Program. The Wellbeing Program encourages positive relationships, a commitment to life-long learning and the development of leadership skills, resilience, spirituality and social responsibility.

The opportunity to participate in national and international Exchanges and Study Tours enables girls to enrich their learning and to develop a greater understanding and awareness of service programs.
