Early Childhood Family Education Early Childhood Special Education Early Childhood Screening District 742 Preschool

From our Director . . . Early Childhood Education welcomes families living in the St. Cloud Area and surrounding communities to participate in the wonderful opportunities and services that are provided through our Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE), District 742 Preschool, Early Childhood Screening and Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) programs. ECFE is the place to be if you are looking to spend time with your child as you grow and learn together. Classes will be offered at Colts Academy in St. Joseph, Discovery Community School in Waite Park and Talahi Community School in St. Cloud. Check out our catalog to find the right fit for you and your child!

We look forward to your involvement in Early Childhood Education Programs!

District Preschool classes for 3 and 4 year old children will continue to be offered at six schools across the district including Colts Academy, Clearview, Discovery, Kennedy, Oak Hill and Talahi Community Schools. We still have openings in some of the classes so be sure to call if you are interested in enrolling your 3 and 4 year old children in a four Star Parent Aware rated program.

Early Childhood Screening is offered at Colts Academy on Tuesdays and some Saturdays each month. All three and four year old children are required to participate in screening prior to kindergarten entrance. This is an opportunity to make sure your child’s development is on track as well as receive information about what resources are available if there are potential developmental concerns. Call us to schedule your child’s screening appointment.

Early Childhood Screening is offered at Colts Academy in St. Joseph most Tuesdays and some Saturdays throughout the school year.

The Early Childhood Special Education Evaluation Team is available to help if you have concerns about your child’s development. Please contact us via phone or go online to make a referral on the state Help Me Grow site, www.helpmegrowmn.org. We look forward to your involvement in our Early Childhood Education Programs! Sincerely,

Alicia Jepsen Director of Early Childhood Education

Please check locations carefully as you decide on classes. ECFE classes will be located at Colts Academy-St. Joseph, Discovery Community School-Waite Park and Talahi Community School-St. Cloud.

What is ECFE . . . Welcome to ECFE! Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) believes that parents are the child’s first and most important teacher. Our mission is to provide quality learning opportunities and resources for parents and their children from birth to kindergarten entry. Parents and children attend ECFE classes together. If ECFE is new to you, we invite you to arrange a visit and tour of our Early Childhood Center. A typical ECFE class includes: GROWING TOGETHER: For You and Your Child Play with your child as he or she explores and learns in a play environment. Grow together through art, music, story books, and other age-appropriate toys and activities. GROWING INDEPENDENTLY: For Your Child During their play and snack time, the early childhood educator will guide children as they interact with others and as they continue to develop positive attitudes about themselves. GROWING CONFIDENTLY: For You Join with other parents in an informal setting for a discussion time led by a licensed parent educator. Parents have the opportunity to share ideas and concerns and feel encouraged by the support of others.

Are you new to ECFE? If you have never been in an ECFE class with your child, please use this coupon for $5 off your very first class! Fees for ECFE classes are based on income. Class offerings ~ pages 2-5, Registration & Fee Scale ~ page 6 Page 1

The earlier children receive help… the greater the impact.

Early Childhood Screening Minnesota law requires that all children, starting at age 3½ must have a health and developmental screening before entering kindergarten in a public school. Early Childhood Screening is a quick and simple check of how your child is learning and growing. The screening includes a developmental assessment, vision and hearing testing, height and weight measurement and an immunization and health history review. The purpose of this FREE screening is to identify children who may need additional time and experiences to be ready for school. The sooner we get started, the more likely your child will begin school with the necessary skills to succeed.
