How Need is Determined

FAMILIES FILE AN APPLICATION WITH CLARITY

Based on financial information provided by a family, Clarity calculates what funds a family should have available for educational expenses.

Numerous factors are considered, including the number of children families have at tuition charging schools as well as parent student loan debt.

Using this information, the School determines the amount of aid we can offer. Awards are made on a yearly basis. A Clarity application must be filed each year to apply for aid. The School will make adjustments if financial needs change.

Two Steps in Applying for Financial Aid

1: EXPRESS INTEREST

Indicate on the application for admission to St. Christopher’s that you are interested in financial aid. Our office will send the instructions for applying for financial aid by December of the year preceding enrollment. If your son is currently enrolled and receives financial aid, this information will automatically be sent. If your son is enrolled but not currently receiving aid, please call the financial aid office at (804) 282-3185 ext. 4620 to request instructions.

2: FILE YOUR APPLICATION WITH CLARITY

Please submit the Clarity Application as soon as possible to receive consideration.

FOR PARENTS WHO ARE SEPARATED OR DIVORCED: In cases where parents are separated or divorced, all custodial parents must complete a Clarity application. St. Christopher’s will consider the assets of both parents, if living, before making an award.

Alternative Payment Plans

Interest-Free Payment Plan

St. Christopher’s School offers the services of Blackbaud Tuition Management. The interest-free payment plan allows families to allocate school expenses over smaller monthly installments. The only additional cost is a nominal administrative fee per family if a monthly payment plan is selected.

529 Savings Plan

You can pay for K-12 private school tuition with a 529 College Savings Plan (JK not included). The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act allows families to use 529 plans to pay up to $10,000 per year in tuition expenses at elementary or secondary private schools. Parents may want to consult with a financial advisor to evaluate the potential benefits available under this law.
