Correction A 4-acre lot that developers of Overlook Park propose dedicating to the city for affordable housing could accommodate about 130 affordable housing units. The story “Highlands seeks height variances” on page 4 of Thursday’s Steamboat Today misstated the number of units the lot could accommodate. Police do not know whether Steamboat Springs resident Bob Bear had the pedestrian signal when he attempted to cross U.S. Highway 40 at Pine Grove Road last week. Police also did not take into consideration the driving or criminal history of Terry Tomey, the driver of the pickup that struck Bear, when determining what to cite him with. Both inaccuracies appeared in the story “Driver ticketed in Bob Bear’s death” on page 3 of Thursday’s Steamboat Today. For a revised story, see page 3 of today’s paper.

JOHN F. RUSSELL/STAFF

Cole Worsley, a senior at Steamboat Springs High School, heads to Loveland today to compete in the State Swimming Championships at Mountain View High School. Worsley, who won a state title in the 100-yard butterfly last year, will compete in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly, and will anchor the 200- and 400-yard freestyle events for the Moffat County High School Bulldogs. SSHS does not have a swim team, so Worsley swims for Craig. For story, see page 27.

When Frank Dolman contracted with the Pentagon, he learned a pack of lessons about government contracting. He settled for nothing less than the perfect bid every time. Dolman worked for a company that built engines for military vehicles. He carried his contract-winning ways through nine years of owning a painting company in Steamboat. For example, Dolman aimed to offer painting bids within eight hours of receiving a request. They weren’t simple bids, either, he said. “I’d bury you in detail,” Dolman said. “But you knew exactly what I was going to do.” Dolman spoke at a Success Steps lunch Thursday at Steamboat Smokehouse. SCORE and Colorado Mountain College put on the lunch, where Dolman and officials from Routt County, Steamboat Springs and the U.S. Forest Service offered advice to business owners interested in government contracts. They encouraged businesses to keep their eyes open and bid on projects but warned that money is tight and the field is crowded. See Contracts, back page
