How One Class Changed My Life
In my “Environmental Controversies in Austin” class, I learned about injustices happening only miles away from where I was sitting, such as food insecurity and environmental racism. It taught me that to change the world, I could start with my own backyard.

Austin Opportunities Kickstart Careers
Jeff Miner ’11
Part detective, part analyst, part storyteller, the Finance graduate is the global business lead for Google’s Creative Works team in New York City, where he helps companies improve their digital advertising to reach the right customers.
Work hard. Be flexible. Play the long game. Think about what you want to be doing at age 30, and find the jobs that will get you there. If you have your dream job right out of college, you have the wrong dream. You go to college to develop the skills and strategic thinking to find the right career path — because what you want is a career you can grow with, not a job.
Make learning a daily practice. My field of work changes really quickly, so it’s up to me to continue educating myself so I can stay ahead of the curve. Stay curious and keep learning, even if you don’t think it applies directly to your job. When you’re genuinely curious, you’re able to be more open-minded and creative.
Lupita Aguilar ’20, Forensic Science, is a medical examiner investigator for Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office. She interned with TCME her senior year.
Jackson Wagner ’21, Video Game Development, is the quality assurance lead at Worldwalker Games in Austin. As an intern with Worldwalker his senior year, he helped develop Wildermyth, a new video game.
Myrka Moreno ’19, Digital Media Management, is an audience engagement producer at The 19th, an Austin-based independent newsroom. Her internships with The Texas Observer and Annie’s List gave her an edge in the job market.
