7 YeaRs bad luCk

Innsbruck, austria

Our beloved close friends 7YBL we’ve shared stages with them every since we started 16 years ago, they were the first band we ever toured with. First time we had beers and laughed our dicks off was in 199-something. Great people playing great music! (DeeCRACKS) FFo: alkaline tRio, FaCe to FaCe, saMiaM

aCCidente

Madrid, Spain „Back in 2012, i „accidentally“ saw Accidente play a DIY punk festival in Barcelona. Long story short: Never heard about them before, but Accidente easily was the best band of the entire night. Super fast melodic posicore with a political attitude, clearly not giving a fuck about the latest whatshot-with-the-goths-who-used-to-becrusties trend. people were going apeshit singing along at the top of their voices to every single song they played. Now, a bunch of years later, Accidente is an established institution 6

and they got a couple of flawless Lps under their belts. Glad they’re coming back to hamburg for the boozey cruise. Better refresh your Spanish, kiddos. Don’t miss out. (ARTeRIALS) FFo: avail, RvivR, G.l.o.s.s

aeRial salad

london, England Named after their favourite washing up liquid and favourite food this Manchester 3-piece is angsty, self-deprecating and utterly infectious. I know it’s a lazy comparison, but if you like the sound of a more aggressive, snottier and slightly more unhinged Green Day then definitely check them out. They are great live and lovely people as well. (The BURNT TApeS) FFo: JawbReakeR, GReen daY, idles

as FRiends Rust

If you’ve been into punkrock in Germany in the last few years you inevitably will have seen these guys and will have fond memories of their energetic live shows for sure since they aren’t playing as much as they used to at the moment, make sure to get your dose of sing alongs while supplies last! (pRIMeTIMe FAILURe)

Can’t really remember how many times we have ripped off As Friends Rust and tried to trick people into believing that it was us who came up with these song ideas – both with our current & our old bands. Thank you AFR for the inspiration & the riffs. We learned (& stole) from the best! Impossible to imagine better teachers. (ARTeRIALS)

I love these guys. We’ve played our first MODeRN SAINTS tour back then with their former band NO WeATheR TALKS. They introduced themselves (halfway serious?!) as the most argueing band on earth and warned us they’d probably split up twice before we even get to the first show. In fact, they’re just the nicest bunch of humans to hang out with. As eATeN BY SNAKeS we’ve played a good deal of our shows so far with ARTeRIALS, and it’s the same warm around the heart kind of feeling watching them on stage. Bad Affair is the new band on the block. You‘ve seen some of these folks around in other bands from hamburg. They don‘t play powermetal music. They do not have a horn section, or a fiddle player. But check this out: Their singer owns pants with french fries on them. I swear, i have seen them with my own eyes. pANTS WITh FReNCh FRIeS! Bong Mountain

Grand Rapids, Michigan

This will be the last show of the Bong Mountain / The Run Up / New Junk City tour and I will be incredibly sad and happy at the same time. I love these bands so much and we are so happy to have shared the road with them and created memories, but sad to be saying bye (until Fest). I will probably cry my eyes / lose my shit to ‘Then we‘ll break into Caroline / With a case of dollar twenty-twos... Captain Asshole München, Germany

Every cruise needs an captain, our’s is an asshole, deal with it. They also get my favourite band name of the festival award. Sorry Bong Mountain! These assholes deliver fast pop-punk that y’all with love – group vocals and all. They are great for dancing around your room like an idiot , and I can only imagine what the floor at Hafenklang is going to be like when they’re playing. Their „No More Spanish Love Songs“ makes me wish all of us would be into HipHop and SPANISH LOVE SONGS would be working on their Captain 8

Asshole – diss track already. (Booze Cruise) FFO: DIRECT HIT!, DOPAMINES, DEAR LANDLORD

Chamberlain

Indianapolis, Indiana

Here’s a band that taught me a lesson. Many moons ago, Split Lip (Chamberlain’s first incarnation) showed me how fruitful it can be to think outside the box when it comes to music and where to look for your musical inspiration. Split Lip’s first album “For the Love of the Wounded“ sounded unlike anything that my bleached-hair-sporting, XL-white-shirts & krishna-neckbeads-wearing 90s-hardcore-kiddo selfhad ever heard before. I was awestruck. And with every musical turn they took, they further challenged my hearing habits, or my understanding of “punk”, “hardcore”, “emo”, “rock” or whatever might have been in my head at the time. Their reunion song “Raise it High“, now also already a couple of years old, is as flawless as their classic catalogue. Totally stoked about their new recordings and the upcoming album! So glad we’ll get to see them live. “Look sharp now boys, it’s time to rise!“ (Arterials) FFO: MINERAL, THE PROMISE RING, SENSE FIELD

Chris Cresswell Toronto, Canada

Chris from some bands you might have heard of plies you with some sweet, sweet acoustic jams. Earnest music that offer a look at the heart of his songwriting abilities with all the distortion and punk beats stripped away. The result is amazing. This is more than just pop-punk on acoustic, it’s a whole different beast, evoking shades of Ryan Adams or less twangy Jason Isbell (Matt / THE FEST) FFO: Hot Water Music, Flatliners, Scorpios

Complaints

Cologne, Germany

COMPLAINTS is another shining example that you don’t need electricity to have energy at your show. Acoustic-fuelled „folk“ punk rock with a snarl! If you’re familar with the troupe of solo artists armed with wood and six strings, you’re are going to have a great time. (Booze Cruise) FFO: Travels & Trunks, Paul Baribeau, Human Kitten

Cory & Kirsty Call München, Germany

2012 at DTFH Fest in North Carolina, is when I first saw Arliss Nancy & met the amazing Cory Call. Great song writer, great person. Fast forward to 2017 & The Jukebox

Romantics are on our first European tour and I see this person wearing a bowler with a One Man Army patch on it. I basically did a back flip over the fact that someone in Munich was wearing one of my favorite bands patch on her hat. It was Kristy. Turns out she kills it in Dollars for Deadbeats and is the Yin to Cory’s Yang. Super stoked to see them perform together at this years Booze Cruise. (Mike / The Jukebox Romantics) FFO: Drinking, naps, banging in strangers kitchens

Dan Webb & The Spiders Boston, Michigan

These guys! I didn’t count, but I guess our friends from Boston are the band we played the most shows with, both over here and in the States. They’ve been with us from pretty much the beginning of our band. Not only are they a great band, but also the most accommodating hosts ever. Letting us stinky Germans stay at their homes and making sure we also get the proper sightseeing experience in between shows by driving us to downtown Manhattan during rush hour or driving the van in circles vor half an hour, so we could have our picture taken with Rocky Balboa in Philly. They will have a new record out in time for Booze Cruise! (IRISH HANDCUFFS) FFO: Replacements, American Steel, Marked Men 9

deCent CRiMinal

dee CRaCks

Oh man, DeCeNT CRIMINAL, where to begin? We’ve known these decent people for a while now and got stuck on the road with them for a month last year. You ever have that friend that is just way cool and you don’t know how they are so cool? That friend is DeCeNT CRIMINAL. You don’t always really actually like the music of the bands you’re on the road with. This was not the case here. We watched them every night and remember just thinking “fuck, this good, these guys are good” Their songs really dig in, the delivery is even more wowing and compelling. We all ended up tattooing each other in a living room in Arizona at 3am at the end of that tour. (WeSTeRN SeTTINGS)

Deecracks are one of the hardest working bands in all of europe, and a bunch of righteous dudes we‘re lucky to call friends forever. these guys are all over the place, and the best part is, they keep writing killer music. we‘ve spent the best of times with them, chugging pints on windy ferries, crashing on stained carpets, wrecking backstage rooms with dirty impro wrestling and playing a lot of high octane shows together. A must-see at Booze Cruise. (7 YeARS BAD LUCK)

Good Friend

Henri Parker & The Lowered Lids

Good Friend are some of the goodest friends you could ever hope to meet. They‘re like your favourite pet that you had when you were growing up and you buried in the garden, next to the rockery. Or you flushed down the toilet as an experiment. Well, now you know. It wont be coming back. However. These cutiepies are here to stay. They‘re hard rocking and hard drinking but they have the sweetest of hearts. I was lucky enough to hit the road with Adam in Ireland last year and we had a wonderful time. I can‘t wait to finally get those tattoos together and sing our wee hearts out all over again. Oh, and we‘re label buddies too now. Viva la Red Scare! Love you fuckers. Xxx (Billy Liar)

HENRI PARKER & THE LOWERED LIDS are the real deal and I was secretly hoping somebody would invite them for this year’s Booze Cruise. “The Bahadis” have been playing oldschool bluegrass and country for too long now and add too much of personality and too little ambition to be accused of any kind of Germandudes-donning-a-flannel-givingthemselves-English-names-andriding-the-Gaslight-bandwagonpretentiousness. That, and they’re also the biggest sweethearts imaginable. (ARTERIALS)

FFO: Rumbleseat, Drag The River, riding mowers

Hell & Back

Stuttgart, Germany

These guys are not only the world record holders for most used Simpsons references, but they also released an amazing second LP last year. You can definitely hear all the blood, sweat and beers they put in their music. Heartwarming guitar melodies meet catchy lyrics and yada yada yada... High fives for slow lives! (ALL ABOARD!) FFO: Hot Water Music, Lifetime, Helmut Cool

Hot Snakes

Jared Hart

We are really excited to be on the same bill as Hot Snakes. These guys are from the same town as us. Rick and John have both admitted how much of an influence we’ve been to them the last 5 years and while we were all hanging at Live Wire a few weeks ago they invited us on a worldwide tour which starts soon. All of this is a lie except the first two sentences. (Western Settings)

Jared Hart, is what you call a „good road brother.“ We toured together with him and The Scandals in 2013 and that’s where our friendship began. Despite being part of New Jersey (not the fun beach part by Asbury Park, but the smelly part by Staten Island) Jared turned out pretty swell. Solid dude who writes solid songs that might make you cry. This dude is doing big things, may even be a legend one day if he cuts his long hippie hair, but until then, he will always be a legend to us. (Mike Terry/The Jukebox Romantics)

San Diego, California

FFO: Drive Like Jehu, Jawbox, Shellac

Irish Handcuffs

Regensburg, Germany

Irish Handcuffs are some of the finest fellows you are likely to find on either side of the Atlantic. Their music is as straight forward and addictive as they are. It has a been our greatest pleasure as a band to grow and develop alongside them. From Regensburg to FEST and back again, we‘ve seen a lot together and it has been great to have such good mates with which to run. They are among the tightest bands in Germany and always do a great job of taking the influences we all grew up with and finding news ways to bring them To Life. (Dan Webb & The Spiders) FFO: The Loved Ones, Green Day, Alkaline Trio 12

Bayonne, New Jersey

FFO: Brian Fallon, Dave Hause, Sundowner

Jason S. Thompson München, Germany

Jason S Thompson is an illusion. We have lots of mutual friends on the internet and probably have been in the same room tons of times but we have never really have had a convo or gotten to really „bro out“ in a good way. I’m a fan of all his projects. Stoked to eat pizza with this dude. Hope he likes pizza. I’m from New York. Pizza is life. Jason is Life. (Mike Terry/The Jukebox Romantics) FFO: Cat videos, Pedro The Lion, Bourbon

Jason Guy Smiley

Gainesville, Florida

Each of Jason‘s songs invite you into his life‘s experiences with vivid imagery and raw lyrics., such as „I see you like a flower in bloom / But I love you down to your roots / So when come the day that all your colors fade / I‘m staying right here with you“ in his 2016 release, No Problem, Man‘s opening track „Late Summer Florida Sunset“. While personal, Jason‘s lyrics are relatable to many, if not all. It‘s quite easy to imagine a group sing along complete with raised pineapple drinks and PBR

cans-- what more can you ask for? (Kayla Lee/Out from the Pine Box Magazine) FFO: Jon Snodgrass, Joey Cape, Julien Baker

Jawknee Music Trier, Germany

Humble guy from Trier, the oldest city in Germany. Lovely songs, great voice and a pretty good guitar player. For sure the nicest guy in the German Underground folk scene. A must-see live because he has a beautiful soul, that shows through the stories he’s telling and his twisted sense of humour. Empathic and good looking tour

companion who’s a solid driver and above average at the bottle as well! If you get the chance, listen to him live, seduce him into a drink and let the good times roll! (How I Left) FFO: Dave House, Zakk Wylde, Thin Lizzy

Joe Astray

Hamburg, Germany

An acoustic artist who hails from Hamburg and specializes in his own unique brand of nice guy handsomecore. Joe sometimes plays with a full band, but will play a solo set during Booze Cruise. His smooth, relaxed delivery is easily matched by his charming onstage demeanor. He probably also makes an excellent house guest. (Booze Cruise) FFO: Matze Rossi, Muff Potter, Tigeryouth

Jukebox Romantics New York City, NY

Ladies and gentlmen... efficiency is a heavily discussed topic in these modern days and age... the specialists in Jukebox Romantics sure took it to heart and with only 3 players involved deliver a part as if 300 (no affiliations with any movies here) guys just took the stage... be prepared to party for 3 when these guys are on! Efficiency! Here we go! (PRIMETIME FAILURE) FFO: Bouncing Sous, Alkaline Trio, MakeWar

Kaleb Stewart

Gainesville, Florida

Kaleb is the real deal, old school Gainesville fucker that I have always known and loved. Tropical Depression is a perfect example of where he comes from and where he is at. Great songs, strong melodies and a fuck you attitude that deserves everyone‘s attention. I love him for making it, you should too! (Arthur Shepherd/Error Type 11/ Mind over Matter) FFO: Ship Thieves, Leatherface, Samiam

Kali Masi

Chicago, Illinois

My (former) hometown of Chicago is known for having some of the best bands in the punk scene these days, and Kali Masi takes that nonsense to a whole new level. The first time I met Sam we were both playing acoustic sets in the old Typesetter house in Chicago (Schoolhouse 4Eva RIP), and his voice and songwriting made me want to throw my guitar in a river because it‘s so fucking good. It doesn‘t hurt that they‘re about the sweetest folks in the world, too. Kali Masi feels like home to me, and I can‘t wait until Foo Fighters open up for them in 5 years.“ (Jason S. Thompson / Little Teeth) FFO: Typesetter, Samiam, Latterman

Laureate

Montreal, Canada

Laureate is our Montreal version of Samiam/Jimmy Eat World. They‘ve been around for almost 10 years now and it‘s great to see them export their sweet pop-punk / emo sound to the old continent. Get them some club mate for me! (Lost Love) FFO: Samiam, the Weakerthans, the Anniversary

Little Teeth

München, Germany

Four friends making music is what it’s all about. This band is around for 1-2 years and still hasn’t managed to publish one song anywhere – So I assume it is straight forward punk with riffs vocals and more riffs to boot. They managed to make a name for themselves simply by being the nicest guys around. They’re playing some slots before AS FRIENDS RUST, so be sure to come early to the Molotow. (Booze Cruise) FFO: Arliss Nancy, The Sky We Scrape, making bad decisions

Leif Ericsson

Manchester, England

BRING THE BARRIERS DOWN! Haven’t seen fine gentleman

for about 100 years. Absolute classic sweaty northern punk rock from the golden era of Josephs Well / Out of Spite / Hospital Radio / Juvie Hall. Belting. (The Run Up) FFO: Iron Chic, Bear Trade, RVIVR

Marbled Eye

San Francisco, California

Expect guitar music balanced with rhythm“. That’s the deadpan but dead-on slogan on a certain Marbled Eye t-shirt, so cheekily overbroad that it manages to perfectly capture their keen take on Guitar Music in 2019. Embracing dichotomies of approach, minimal and progressive, austere and indulgent, melodic and abrasive, they pull from a rich history of post punk while feeling very much of-the-moment. (Shit Giver) FFO: Diät, Royal Headache, Iceage

Martha

Pity Me, England

The first thing drummer Nathan did to me when we first met was give me a hug... admittedly I had just given him a can of IRN-BRU but nevertheless MARTHA is just like that: You gotta love them! But let me explain. A vegan, straight edge (2/4) indie punk band musically, they go from occultism to that special romance of holding someone’s 15

hair who’s throwing up to to the infinite void that awaits all of us and back via Emma Goldman and congenital conditions lyrically. There’s two PhD’s in the band for you eggheads and miners‘ blood for you working class folks. All that makes for the most catchy songs you’ll hear for a very long time. If you don’t go and see MARTHA live at BOOZE CRUISE 2019 it’ll haunt you for the rest of your existence ... and the only thing that can cheer you up again would be MARTHA writing a catchy ass song about it! (Muttnicks) FFO: Pup, Weakerthans, Lemuria.

Mean

Hamburg, Germany

So this is not you average singer/ songwriter stuff – first of all you got an electric guitar (this IS punk rock after all) and second of all this guy can really sing, as in remember and recognize that voice two weeks later in a passing car. THE MEAN is 2/4 ANADRINKSDOGPISS ..or 2/4 OFFMOUNTAINS and on their second or third show they were a quarter OFFMOUNTAINS or ANA and a quarter THE MUTTNICKS ... or ANA ... anyway, check these guys out because you‘ll hate yourself if you miss them. (Muttnicks) FFO: Lucero, Tim Barry, Northcote 16

Mercy Union

New Jersey, NJ

When I first heard of Mercy Union, I thought their name was Mercy Onion. Truth. This band just dropped a debut record. Had a killer set at The Fest this past year. Made up of some really talented people. Rocky, once let us practice in his basement. The american merch boy Colin is also a rad dude and brother. I hope he’s at Cooze Bruise. (Mike / The Jukebox Romantics) FFO: American Steel, Blacklist Royals, Lawrance Arms

Mobina Galore

Winnepeg, Canada

If you see these two hardworking and positively inspiring two punks from Winnipeg, Canada play live, you‘ll ask yourself why anyone ever needed more than two musicians in a punk band. Imagine a musical teaming-up of Against Me and The Distillers and you‘re pretty close to the energy that Mobina Galore conjure up with their straight-to-theheart and kick-ass-punk-hymns. If you‘re not 23 anymore, you‘ll be singing along instantly with ‚You‘re not 23 anymore‘ from their first album, or if you‘ve ever gone out all by your lonesome self, you‘ll probably be banging your head to ‚going out alone‘ - just two amazing examples of Mobina

Galore’s anthems for the part timeoutcasts, that some of us tend to feel like. (Flicke from Mood Change/No Sugar) FFO: The Distillers, Against Me!, Hot Water Music

Modern Saints

Primetime WHAT?! Eaten By WHO?! Modern Saints is the real deal! Modern Saints are the kings of nerdcore! All hail Trockelman now that he‘s back with Modern Saints! Kestnerman & Finkeman & Trockelman! Nuff said! (Arterials) fFO: Thermals, Tenement, Steve Adamyk Band

Mood Change Kiel, Germany

Mood Change has got to the be the cutest band around. Mullets (if you get the honour to see it before it gets shaved off), brightly coloured hair and a slight introversion on stage is the most adoring thing ever. They all have a serious sense of humour and some vices of their own off stage that truly will change your mood for the better. Mood Change really know how to play all their cards just right! Also, they are seriously trying to make this world a better place for everyone! (Mobina Galore) FFO: Dinosaur Jr., Wipers, 90s shit

We only were on tour for three days with OFFMOUNTAINS but I don‘t think we missed any tour favourites. We played our hearts out in front of three people and in front of 50, we partied long after all other bands had gone to sleep, the club had closed and the sun had gone up again and we had those long drives where your brain reaches new highs ... and lows. of my friends. I didn’t know them before but as those practice space shows had a track record of having ridiculously great bands that should play huge stages instead of tiny rooms I was sure I’d be into them. Little did I know that I was about to see one of the best bands the European scene currently has to offer. It helps that they’re also some of the nicest people. If life is fair, Booze Cruise and the tour around it is likely one of the last chances to see them on a smaller stage as they deserve to and will be huge. (CAPTAIN ASSHOLE)

Scott K Ritcher

Stockholm, Sweden

Don’t write this guy off as just another one oft he acoustic acts that are sprinkled around Hamburg during Booze Cruise weekend. His masterful acoustic guitar work is something to make most of the attendees jealous. Nothing short of beautiful, if the emotion expressed on „Nashville Geographic“ is any fraction like what his live show is like, I’ll be there front and center. Don’t snooze on something special here. FFO: Kentucky bourbon, George Jones, Bernard Buffet

FFO: Iron Chic, Bouncing Souls, Living With Lions

Scott Rocket

Hamburg, Germany

I‘ve know these guys for a long time and they‘ve always supported punk Rock the old fashioned way – going to shows, organizing shows, playing shows. The very first time we played with them was in a dingy club where the drummer had to sit on a bundle of newspapers and at least on guitar had to stand ON the DJ booth because the space for the bands was so small – never stopped SCOTT ROCKET. Punk Rock with that dose of HELLACOPTERS that gets you through the day and the night as well. Go! (Muttnicks) FFO: Hellacopters, Datsuns, Zeke 21

Sewer Rats

Cologne, Germany

Hey Ho! Rats Go!... what else there is to say, when it comes to the punkest rats you might meet at Booze Cruise? Not only do they put on great live shows, are all around nice guys, but those „animals“ are (from what we know) the inventors of #Kannentime, a concept that should go along pretty well with a festival called „Booze Cruise“... (PRIMETIME FAILURE) FFO: Teenage Bottlerocket, 90s Blink 182 and Tony Hawk‘s Pro-Skater 2

Shellycoat

Hamburg, Germany

You know what really grinds my gears? That every band with a female singer always gets compared to PARAMORE. I‘m so glad that SHELLYCOAT don‘t have such problems. Listen to their last album. It is a masterpiece. The ‚Proud like a god‘ of this decade, if you ask me. (ALL ABOARD!) FFO: Samian, Pity Party, The Lippies

Shoreline

Münster, Germany

There’s no way in hell you haven’t heard about these guys in the last 2 years... from playing to one horse in a one horse town to supporting 22

Hot Water Music, these guys know how to saddle up their horses... no bullshit melodic punk to sing along to in no time! (PRIMETIME FAILURE) FFO: The Menzingers, Title Fight, Boston Manor

Soups

Cologne, Germany

I always wanted to play drums in a punk band! So when the organ player of my band (t&t) started this project i was stoked that they asked me to play drums for their live shows! Even though i am neither a Nintendo nor a Dinosaur Freak... Haha! When on tour with SOUPS, it‘s all about having a good time and having ice cream! (Travels & Trucks) FFO: Saves the Day, Pup, Weezer

The Started-Its

San Francisco, California

Theo once auditioned to be the Bass player for the Dead Kennedys but he didn‘t get the job. This was sometime in the 2000‘s so it‘s probably not that big a deal! I‘ve played in bands with this arsehole in the UK, Europe, Japan and Mexico and it‘s pretty much the most fun I‘ve had with my clothes on. He‘s a Bass player, Drummer, Singer, Guitarist and now it seems a Ukelele warrior. I‘ve no idea what this will be

like, I‘m sure it will be ace. (WILL - The LeIF eRICSSON) FFo: MakewaR but with ukeleles

steReokeYs

lennestadt, Germany

I think at this point, it’s safe to assume that if a record has the homebound Records logo on it, it’s going to be something fresh and more than worthy of your attention. With their newest offering, STeReOKeYS deviates from a MAKe DO AND MeND-esque style to a slightly even moodier but still as catchy sound, echoing KINGS OF LeON or BIFFY CLYRO. (BOOze CRUISe) FFo: kinGs oF leon, biFFY ClYRo, Make do & Mend

Also known as “Rowald McDowald and the Cheese Rollers“! Some would them call whisky-snobs, but I’d prefer the term whisky-nerds. Don’t even bother buying them a shot of Jameson! They are also really into heavy construction machinery, screaming hOLY ShIT! every time the van passes a site with cranes or diggers. I also remember that one time we almost crashed the van during our UK tour with them. They brought this giant jar of pindakaas (= Dutch for peanut butter) and it

was flying through the van. As soon as we realized everything was ok, the whole van started chanting pINDAKAAS, pINDAKAAS, celebrating that not only the bands but also the peanut butter survived the brake maneuver. They have a new record out! (IRISh hANDCUFFS) FFo: desCendents, bad ReliGion, daG nastY

ÜbeRYou

Zürich, Switzerland

ÜBeRYOU are living the DIY life, playing their asses off and organizing the legendary Obenuse Fest every year. They’re without a doubt one of the hardest working bands in europe. But sometimes it’s quite hard to understand them and they start singing Gianna Nannini after too much Fernet Branca. (ALL ABOARD!) FFo: hiGhFives, Cheese and beeRs

War On Women

Western Settings

This hardworking five-piece feminist hardcore-punk band from Baltimore plays one of the most exciting, full-out rocking and empowering live shows of easily the last decade of shows that i‘ve been to. Empowering us - and especially LGBTQI*-Folks, Women, Trans, Queers and Femmes of all genders - to show ourselves, come out to shows, be our own show, be in bands of our own and speak up against inequality and sexism - even and especially in our own punk-bubbles - that is and has been War on Womens clear cut message, besides tearing shit up on stage and having the wildest, fun time. War on Women’s activism reaches far beyond their shows though: their latest record ‚ Capture the Flag‘, released in 2018, came with a college-level workbook centered around the lyrics and Singer Shawna Potter just published the first paperback edition of her guide on how to make spaces safer (‚Making Spaces Safer‘), more inclusive and how to be an active ally in face of discrimination especially in our own scenes and communities. Cheers to that! (Flicke from Mood Change/No Sugar)

Western Settings is an incredible Rock and Roll band from the great state of California. I‘ve seen them play to empty bars and packed halls with the same earnest and energy. The songs are written with great thought and care, and tiptoe through Americana roots on their way to punk rock anthems that make your chest feel like it‘s going to burst. Really glad to know ‚em. I love those guys. They eat together. Good bands always eat together! (Kali Masi)

hands down I am fan of fruity boozy drinks. I don’t like to drink hard liquor but love them when it is mixed with fruit juice. The Boozy Livin’ Sipper is basically bourbon mixed with pineapple juice. This is really tasty as you know bourbon makes everything delicious. I used Bulleit Bourbon for this. Made with fresh pineapple juice and lemon juice with touch of vanilla extract, you can play with processed juice too. I think fresh juice always gives wonderful taste. If you look for convenience, then go with bottled juice.

How about some long lasting BOOZE CRuISE souvenirs? From Friday to Sunday Sarah-ann and Tobi of atelier Tietchen are available to get some awesome ink done – just visit their pop up tattoo parlour only at the Rope Shack. How did punk play a role in your childhood adolescence? From a early age on punkrock was always around. It guided us through some tough times and sharpened our senses for social life, fashion and last but not least Tattoos. Have you guys ever played in bands yourselves? Well, at least one of us ‚tried‘ it. What was your first tattoo, and how did it lead you to become a tattoo artist? Tobi: My first Tattoo was the Song ‚Stay Free‘ from The Clash. It led me directly to being interested in the Tattoo Business. Sarah: I got my first Tattoo when 46

I was 16 so this was years away of even thinking of becoming a Tattoo-Artist. Tell us about your tattoo pop-up parlour at Booze Cruise weekend. Where and when can you guys be found? Do i need an appointment or can i just come by? any boozy motives I can get inked? We will work Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 – 18:00. Our pop Up Studio will be set up in the ‚Rope Shack‘ where you can also find the Booze Cruise Festival Office, Records, Merch, ...We will prepare some One-Off Designs for this weekend so watch out and remember – First come, first serve.

What are you three must-sees at booze cruise this year? There will be so many great Bands that you can‘t cut it down to three. But pay attention so some great Cover Sets (Alkaline Trio, Rancid,...) that will take place. Have you any recommendations for bars & restaurants people should check out while being in Hamburg. pizza Bande, Salt & Silver, Drip Bar. If you were planning to open a harbor pub - how would you call it? ‘Octopus‘s Garden‘ 47

What friends are for: Drinking beer. Sure thing. But with your super friends you start a brewing company and run a store in St. Pauli. at least the guys behind Superfreunde decided to do so some years ago. We sat down with Stefan to catch up with some info about their brews and what they will do all Booze Cruise weekend. What motivated you to start Superfreunde? Stefan: I always wanted to have my own product in my own hands. Something I can relate to and a thing that I can share with my friends. But I didn’t want to do it by myself so I got together with some nice guys who followed the same DIY passion and founded the SUpeRFReUNDe. SUpeRFReUNDe is not only a beer but more of a lifestyle. It’s all about friendship and having a good time together.

48

How long was the idea for Superfreunde swimming around in your mind before you decided to go for it? Stefan: Not really long - we just did it ;)

What will happen in your store during the Booze Cruise weekend? Stefan: First of all you get the festival tickets in our store with some nice surprises. We are also planning an intimate acoustic set with one of the bands. During the whole festival weekend the store is open and everybody is welcome to grab a beer or two and some shots of Bulleit whiskey. What is your secret weapon against being hung over the next morning? Stefan: A beer. If people would ask you for your insider tip for their stay in Hamburg, what would you recommend? Stefan: Get a burger at Otto’s Burger - also very delicious vegan stuff. What’s your personal favorite Superfreunde brew? Stefan: The Old School Ale, cause it’s a traditionell german beer style that we interpreted in a new and modern way. The beer combines the right amount of malt, fruits and a nice bitterness. I think we did a great job on that one! Which Booze Cruise bands would you love to share a beer with? Stefan: With all of these great bands, cause you should never drink our beer alone! 49
