Taking climate change as an opportunity to rethink a static region such as the Polesine was the starting point for this project. The territory we take into consideration is the delta of the river Po, which due to its closeness to sea level will be the weakest part of the river given one of the most destructive consequences of climate change: the raising of the sea level. The group assumed a raising value of 1 meter, this prediction places a largely depressed area such as that of the delta in serious danger, it will reach a breaking point, where the resources used to maintain this dry territory will exceed those produced. Soon this territory will no longer be sustainable, so the design choices are based on this awareness. The plan is to re-establish the territory on the relationship between water and earth, bringing it back to its natural origins: an amphibious territory, halfway between the sea and the land.

favela do moinho masterplan 2011 gabriel braga stefano cury laura durighello fĂĄbio garrafoli laura mattioli profs aldo aymonino, angelo bucci, enrico fontanari, francisco spadoni
The objective was to work with the problems of the metropolis of SĂŁo Paulo in the Favela do Moinho, which is embedded between two railway lines and thus having very limited access and high risk for the residents. In the midst of the journey of those who travel by train from JĂşlio Prestes station to Luz station, it is in the center of the city, a region that has long been receiving plans for urban renewal. The workshop aimed to see urbanization plans for this slum, and the design was organized from a walkway that cuts through the ground at different levels providing an integration with the surrounding blocks of the regular city, giving priority to pedestrians and cyclists, as well as providing exciting prospect looks across the causeway and the existing streets. There was an exhibition of the final projects, held at the Brazilian Embassy in Rome, from march 22nd to april 13th 2012.

The thesis proposes to carry out an expansion project for the Architecture and Urbanism College of the University of São Paulo, a brutalist building from the architect João Batista Vilanova Artigas. The intervention incorporates the question and debate of how to act within a landmark of the city’s architecture. The school has many virtues, but currently does not have many spaces for the full activity of teaching and learning of the profession. Through this work it was possible to address the problems I was interested in during the course of the Master’s Degree, such as the realization of projects in relation with works already carried out and of cultural importance, and also how to interact with realities that have marked a certain era that cannot be forgotten or rejected. The complete thesis is available at https://issuu.com/stefanoperciavallecury (in Italian).

Tracing the dramatic story of the urban division in the development of European cities, the case of the Warsaw Ghetto, established by the Nazis between 1940 and 1943, is a matrix for a review of the urban divisions that mark our present. The fragments of the Ghetto that survived in Ul. Walicรณw are a heritage for humanity, a testimony, a warning and at the same time an extraordinary building material for a future and regenerated area with a careful museum project, both architectural and urban. The main purpose of the project is to make re-emerge the buried traces and to re-connect them to the present life of the city, excavating and bringing back urban absences. Through these actions of excavation, grafting and measuring the buildings in relation to the new additions, the project will start a process of hooking this place to the historical complex of the Jewish Ghetto in Warsaw. In the town of Maggianico, towards the end of the nineteenth century, Villa Ponchielli was built, designed by the famous architect from Lecco Attilio Bolla, also the author of the monumental Villa Gomes. The realization of the Villa was commissioned by the famous Cremonese composer Amilcare Ponchielli (1835-1886) who arrived in Lecco in 1876 and there worked at the “Gioconda. Villa Ponchielli is a 400 square meters house, a simple quadrangular block of 20x20 meters. Remarkable is the large park around the villa of over 20.000 square meters that develops in the direction of the lake, with functional and ornamental elements such as fountains, streams and caves. The restoration project consists of analysing the damaged phisical state of the interior rooms and how to repair them. Finaly, the villa will host a new international music school, so there is a need to adapt and insert new architectural elements in the existing environment of the house.

butantã square 2010 carolina borges stefano cury rodrigo mascaro bráullio nunes marianna tonini prof helena ayoub
The subway arrived at the Butantã neighborhood, with an exit to a new plaza and bus station, becoming a transportation hub which links the underground, bus and the addition of a bicycle parking as well. The design should set up an example of an intermodal station acting as an advertisement for alternative urban mobility. It is a square at various levels, with the needs of the program organized around a central axis. The use of glass in the bike racks gives transparency to the use of the set of public facilities, providing also viual integration between the different levels. Organically and even playful, a marquee composed of tangent circles is part of the rational distribution. The project was published in the catalogs FAU mostra projeto 2010, São Paulo: FAUUSP, 2010 and ProjetosFAU, São Paulo: FAUUSP, 2011.

san fedele pavilion 2016 stefano cury prof beatriz mugayar kĂźhl
The thesis proposes to carry out the project of an ephemeral pavilion in Piazza San Fedele, located in downtown Milan, with emphasis on the intervention of contemporary architecture in consolidated environments that are considered historical patrimony of the city. The pavilion presents itself as an architectural typology which allows the temporary insertion in the urban fabric of new opportunities for the space, in addition to enhancing the character of permanence already present in the place. The project provides a way to bring to the surface the study of the status of the square during the years, its formation and transformation to the present day, besides supplying an observed deficiency and creating new forms of relation of the individuals with the urban space that surrounds them, in an eloquent way and with an architecture that respects the history and the importance of the place. The main campus of the University of São Paulo is a city inside the city, with a total area of over 7 million square meters and more than 80.000 people circulating through it daily. The competition had the objective to unify the food street vending service on campus under one design solution, to improve the health and sanitation overall conditions as well as the visual aesthetics. Modulation was a central issue to enable different preparation areas, aiming at the different functions to be exercised, and thus the kiosk can vary its final size by adding other modules. Natural forms of lighting and ventilation were privileged, determining the presence of large openings, while closing the façade almost exclusively on the sides.

In addition to the technical courses regularly offered to architectural students, I made the choice to participate in a dual graduation program within my university, and so I spent a year and a half inside the School of Civil Engineering. This opportunity was created in order to enrich the student’s knowledge and disciplinary path, adding concepts that are normally less developed in the regular study plan, such as construction management, advanced structural calculus and materials resistance. The program also offers courses of entrepreneurship, real estate, management and, above all, the reality of construction and production of buildings, which gives us the ability to understand the whole cycle that surrounds us in our professional lives.

From the beginning of my studies in the Architecture and Urbanism College of SĂŁo Paulo FAUUSP, we were encouraged to manipulate and develop projects with different materials, from plaster to paper to wood. A part of the architecture course is focused on the design of the object, its relationship with materials, technological development, consumption, disposal and environment. This creates inferences about a spatial conception as well as an investigation of the relation between form and structure, finally realizing a series of three-dimensional objects ranging from a small to large scale. These experiments allow the students to practice and create real objects in the academic course.
about me I have moved to Italy with the goal of becoming a better architect, learning from the cultures and techniques here that complement those I’ve experienced in Brazil. As a professional I am interested in all of the steps in which the architectural process occurs, from the first drawings to the completion of the building, working as a team member and trying to bring value to each situation. From my previous work experiences I can say that one of the most satisfying feelings is to see the physical manifestation of an architectural idea. education Polytechnic University of Milan | School of Architecture Urbanism and Civil Engineering 09.2016 - 12.2018 Master Degree in Architecture University of São Paulo | Architecture and Urbanism College 03.2009 - 07.2016 Bachelor Degree in Architecture and Urbanism University of São Paulo | Polytechnic School 03.2014 - 07.2015 Double Graduation Program in Civil Engineering Polytechnic University of Milan | Architecture and Society College 09.2012 - 07.2013 International Exchange Program professional experience ARUP Italia 04.2019 - 09.2019 Trainee in Project and Programme Management, working at Wholesale development and layout review for brands in the retail world; analyzing and evaluating international tenders.
