about this book OCEAN CITY IS ONE OF THE BEST PLACES I KNOW TO GET YOUR MOJO BACK. We’ve all experienced some serious tumult recently and I, for one, am feeling the need to recharge my spirit. Sun, surf, and sand are salve for the soul and Ocean City has all three in abundance. So if you’re feeling a bit weary and in need of rejuvenation then Welcome to Ocean City. Ocean City has what you need for a 2021 revival. Load up on Vitamin D on our sun-soaked beaches. Refresh your entire being with a dip in the Atlantic Ocean. Update your existence with a shopping spree through our shops and boutiques, and up your IG game with photos of all your favorite OC foods. Wash it down with a stroll along the Boards or a round of golf and bam! You’re feeling better already! There’s a special magic that permeates the air around here and everyday I’m grateful I get to breathe it in. That magic is part of the reason people return to our shores year after year, and generation after generation. The salt air, the sand between your toes, the aromas of the Boardwalk – all these things are subtly, but surely refreshing and rejuvenating your
humanity. There’s nothing like a day in the OC, and the nights are pretty special, too. And the most comprehensive guide for finding all of Ocean City’s best spots is the book you’re holding in your hands. Welcome to Ocean City is your unequaled source for all the best places to eat, shop, stay, and play in OCNJ. It’s like having a local friend who’s willing to share their favorite spots. Ocean City is 10 square miles of fun, and the key to unlocking that fun is knowing where to find it. All the best restaurants, the grooviest shops, the most fun activities, the comfiest accommodations and all the amenities you may need while you’re here can be found in the pages of this book. Flip through for everything you may need; gyms, surfboard rentals, fudge, ice cream, Kentucky Derby apparel and more. Discover where to get pampered or where to find medical treatment. Need to feed your adrenaline habit? Got ya covered. If shopping is your bag, then oh yes, we can definitely help you there – shopping is our specialty. When the shopping is done it’s time for the best part; après-

shopping! Or après surfing or après whatever. No matter what... you’ll need food and drink. We suggest you abandon that habit of ordering the same thing every time – 2021 is the year to mix it up. This book is filled with eateries offering quality menus where you can order something you haven’t ordered a hundred times already. We can’t produce this big, beautiful, useful book without the support of the businesses you see on these pages. So please go check them out and tell them you saw them here. We love highlighting all that is beautiful about Ocean City and we’re grateful for our sponsors and all of you who support them. So welcome to Ocean City! Or welcome back. OC is simply a beautiful little town (with one of the best beaches in the country) perfect for creating lasting memories. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a first-timer, there are still unexplored nooks and crannies on this island you didn’t know existed. Whatever you do, get your face into some sunshine; feel the warmth and feel its healing power. Go out and get your mojo flowing in OCNJ. - Bill Godfrey

Downtown Asbury Avenue is fun all year round. 8
welcome to ocean city
THERE’S JUST SOMETHING ABOUT OCEAN CITY. You know what we’re talking about. It’s got a mystique, a lure, a siren call... whatever you want to call it – the island beckons. And once you’re here, whether you drove eight hours or eight minutes, you breathe the salt air, lower your shoulders with every inhale, and smile, because you know you’ve arrived. Welcome. Ocean City is eight miles of clean, wide beaches (some of the finest in the world), the two-and-ahalf-mile Boardwalk, the Downtown Asbury Avenue shopping district, the inviting bay where you can play all day on the water, plus all the unique neighborhoods throughout the island. From the northern tip in the Gardens neighborhood, to the South End and everything in between, there are loads of nooks and crannies to explore while you’re on island time. Cruise down Haven Avenue’s bike path, hang ten in a surf lesson, or set sail from the yacht club... an Ocean City vacation is filled with outdoor adventure (as much or as little of it as you’d like). No matter where you are in OC, there’s always
something cool to see or do nearby... beaches, Boardwalk, big-city shopping, delish dining, a municipal airport, golf course, recreational fields, special events, family festivities... we’re talking endless possibilities here. Together with the expansive Community Center – housing the Arts Center, Historical Museum, Aquatic and Fitness Center (with an indoor salt water pool) and Free Public Library, there’s the pink Music Pier (home of the Ocean City Pops and Greater Ocean City Theatre Company performances), the Bayside Center and more. Whether you’re here for a day, the week, or perhaps the rest of your life, you’ll never be bored. Speaking of boards... running from St. James Place to 23rd Street is the Ocean City Boardwalk (it’s featured on our cool Bogy cover... go ahead, look again – we know you wanna), a two-and-ahalf-mile stretch lined with shops and restaurants of every kind, amusement rides, miniature golf courses and a water park. Take a trip up to the boards at night and the party continues... the Boardwalk has entertainment nightly, shops and restaurants are open late and there’s Mummers
Night and Family Night. Asbury Avenue and the Downtown Shopping District from 6th to 14th streets is a destination. The Historic Downtown has over 100 shops and cafes, plus there are awesome finds on the neighboring side streets. Head Downtown on a Tuesday or Thursday from 10am-1pm for Market Days and Funtastic Tuesdays. And on Wednesdays, head to the Farmers Market on the Tabernacle grounds. Continuing toward the west is the Great Egg Harbor Bay where you’ll find every water sport imaginable including kayaking, sailing, boating, fishing, crabbing, SUP, and more. There are great opportunities to see pristine ecosystems up close and personal. If stepping onto the sand for a chill beach day is your go to, remember to swim near a lifeguard. The OCBP is an award-winning organization designed to keep you safe. Take advantage. Sit back, relax, let this book show you the adventures that await, and the sweet restaurants and shops just waiting to serve you. With a smile, naturally.

HEN you step through the red dog house door and into Animal House, you may notice Shani and Liz chatting with a customer or two about their fur baby. They are most likely on a first name basis with the customer, and the dog or cat too, as they whisk around the shop finding the right high-quality food, treat, leash, collar, or toy for that specific pet's needs. Animal House believes in a holistic approach to pet care. Shani and Liz know everything counts from food and treats to supplements and anything else that goes into or onto your pet. Spend a few minutes in the shop and you'll understand why they've been in business for 20 years. Their knowledge is vast. At Animal House, they work with independent artists who handcraft Made-in-theUSA products, so you can get the perfect gift even for hard-to-find breeds like rat terrier, labradoodle, or greater Swiss mountain dog. The apparel is fitted as if your pet went to a tailor (in one-inch increments!) and the toys are better made. Chew on that.

ARON Bogushefsky or ‘Bogy’ as most people call him is a local artist with an immense admiration for the small town of Ocean City. With this, comes a love for art and past artists such as Norman Rockwell, Dr. Seuss, and Rick Griffin. Having juggled many different activities throughout his life, Bogy has finally put his admiration for these activities into a career for himself. He’s established his name as an artist, a teacher, and a soccer coach in the past few years in South Jersey. Bogy's style is instantly recognizable (he painted the cover for this book...) With humor and serious detail in each piece, you'll want to bring one home for yourself. Grab a print or two at www.bogyart.com. Call or email if you want a commissioned work.

SCARBOROUGH INN FIND THEM 720 Ocean Avenue, Ocean City • 609-399-1558 • www.scarboroughinn.com AT THE INN If you pass Scarborough Inn on a warm evening in summer, chances are good you'll catch laughter and conversation coming from the large wraparound front porch with the big rocking chairs. This is what Sne Avichal visualized when he began his dream job as innkeeper last year. For Sne, a registered architect by trade, being innkeeper is the opportunity to create a comfortable experience for his guests. Sne grew up in nearby Ventnor, and brings his relaxed conversational hosting style to Ocean City, inviting neighbors and guests to connect with him and with the Inn's storied past. From its iconic pink fish-scale shingles, to Benny Goodman playing on the Bluetooth gramophone, Scarborough Inn brings a nostalgic, cozy vibe for the ultimate escape. ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD KNOW? Scarborough Inn is Ocean City's oldest hotel, built in 1895. The distinct Victorian building is a registered historical landmark and is accented with cut flowers and gardens (a source of pride for Sne).
