EXPO MILAN 2015: ITALIAN PAVILION
Expo Milano 2015, with its theme “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life” represents the opportunity to compare ideas and solutions shared on the theme of food, stimulating the creativity of the participating countries and promoting innovation for a sustainable future. In 2012 it was announced an international competition for the design of the “Italian Pavilion” which was attended by 68 groups of Italian and foreign designers who were granted 60 days to prepare the preliminary draft of the Italian Pavilion. “EXPO Milano 2015 – Italian Pavilion” is a dissertation that analyzes the identity of this pavilion comparing the first three projects that have excelled in the competition (Nemesis & Partners, Miralles Tagliabue EMBT and Matteo Fantoni | Studio). The Italian Pavilion by opening the horizons to new technologies and by using biodynamic materials that characterize the structure will remain in history as its predecessors: the Chrystal Palace for glass, the Eiffel Tower for iron that have become icons of their exposition and symbol of an era.

Palazzo Italia narrates the story of the “Vivaio Italia”, an architectural concept interpreted by Nemesis & Partners, starting from their own forms, which draw inspiration from the models of the architecture of a natural urban forest that envelops the visitor in an atmosphere rich in visual suggestions and light vibrations. The image of the structure recalls the outline of two hands joined to form a “nest”: an intimate space but open, capable at the same time to wrap visitors and stimulate the convivial meeting. Second Place: Miralles Tagliabue - EMBT The project presented by Miralles Tagliabue - EMBT is based on the concept of the Italian tree of life; the inspiration was born using cuttings of aerial photographs of the countryside and landscapes from all regions of Italy, crossing the theme of the tree with the culture of Italian cuisine and Italian art films.

This thesis also analyzed, with a different perspective, the project by Matteo Fantoni | Studio. The latter imagined Palazzo Italia as a building that celebrates its relationship with the square and the streets connecting the Decumano (Expo Milano’s main street), keeping the relationship with the element of water present in the Lake Arena, prolonging water mirrors that creep under the covered square building.
Viviendas Industrializadas en un Silos
The silo, protagonist of the project, is located in Pamplona, in an area that is part of a city plan for the development of the new high speed train station. The project is characterized by a ground floor and other seven floors. The houses are mainly characterized by duplex except for the top floor. The ground level is 1.5 meters lower compared to the level ground and it is intended for commercial use. The block of the vertical connection maintains its preservation from the pre-existent silo.

RESIDENCIA DE INVESTIGADORES EN LEEDS
The site is located in the neighborhood Royal Armouries, near the river Aire, with access from East Street and from the river promenade. The difference in height is 350 cm between the upper pedestrian street and the river. It is currently occupied by an industrial building of low quality in poor condition, which will be demolished to free a plot of 25 x 15 meters. The existence of three universities in the city and the research tradition are elements in favor of the creation of a public building aimed at promoting the temporary stay of researchers, in an area of attractive urban regeneration. Very well connected with the bus station and the railway station. The goal was to create a path that forces people to come into contact with each other and to live the common areas of the building. Casa Familiar en Torre de Pe単a
Fernando and Gloria Barnuevo live in America, have five children and wanted to use the land inherited by the family of Gloria as a home for the holidays. The land is located in Navarra, in Torre de Peña, Spain; it is currently a neglected farm of about 300 square meters. The concept of this project is the MOTORHOME, hence the name translated into Spanish CRVN or caravana. The idea was born from their story of an exciting trip on a motorhome, thus during a meeting with the client it emerged the necessity of incorporating this family-gathering experience that they have lived with intensity into the project. Interaction – unique space – family unit. The goal was a project that encompasses all three key words. PROJECTS INFO SITE AREA: 135 M2 PAMPLONA, SPAIN ACADEMIC YEAR: 2012/2013

The main geometric principle that was followed throughout this project was to create a link between the "old" and the"new": the existing building with a C shape is connected to the new project with an extension of one of the circles that initially was incomplete. From the latter a rectangle shape element hangs, which represents the main subject of the project because it contains the classrooms deployed on a single axis; and in turn it also has a function of connection because to it other figures of regular shapes are attached; the main axis of the path has as an endpoint a church with a modern design. Another feature of the project concerns the section which shows the difference in elevation of 0.50 cm between the various bodies and that in the prospectus highlights the bucaturem that are flush with the ground. The project is based on the concept of path: the user is guided by an internal path that connects the rest of the laboratories and the classrooms giving you the ability to interact with all the other functions of the building, from the gym to the library. The relationship with the exterior is accentuated by the presence of large windows along the axis of the classrooms. PROJECTS INFO SITE AREA: 25.290 M2 PALERMO, ITALY ACADEMIC YEAR: 2011/2012

“Project The Limit is a project regarding the design of a small fire fighters station, which also includes a housing unit located on a slope in Aidone. The building is built on two floors, the area of each floor is about 70 square meters. Access to the building is via the second level, the office consists of a 30 square meters entrance terrace that expands the visual space, and by the actual office that is characterized by large windows that further expand the view. From the latter you can access the more private area of the building through a staircase that leads to the lower level where the housing unit is developed and that features a dining-living room, a bathroom and a double bedroom with a walking closet. The living area is located in the southeast of the building, while the night area is in the northwest part. Since this is a station for the Fire Department, there is also a clear visibility from the lower level thanks to the large windows.
