METAMORPH
Director’s Note “Change will not come if we wait for other person or some other time. We are the one’s we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek...” - Barack Obama As we start the new semester I would like to welcome all our new students to LSPR and welcome back to our existing students. As you begin a new in journey in your life at LSPR we are very much excited to be part of the changes and challenges that each and everyone will face, but definitely LSPR will always be there on every step of the way to guide and assist you to a better future. Most of the time we are very used to in what we’ve been doing in our life, it becomes a cycle that goes round and round and sometimes if we face some new changes in this cycle we are very reluctant and often times scared to CHANGES but at the back of our minds we need those changes to open up new doors and opportunities in our life to be a better person. Here at LSPR as we face together the changes and challenges life brings to us may we all be united in embracing it with positive energy and full trust that it can bring us to where we needs to be. Again, I wish everyone a very exciting new life and new year here at LSPR. Regards, Prita Kemal Gani, MBA, MCIPR, APR

There are a lot of ways to describe change. One might think that change is when you become something different from what you used to be, while others might perceive change as adapting to an entirely different environment. But hey – did you notice the ‘keyword’? Yep, change is all about being d “ ifferent”. It does not really have to be you; change also happens to every single thing around us. In this case for example, our very own campus, LSPR. Care to know more? You better. Because sometimes we need to know things around us first before knowing things that are out there. Happy reading, Londoners!

On the other hand, “3C - Change, Challenge, Chance” is an idea about seeing the changes that happen and how people should react, which also was talking about the changes that happen in LSPR after years that have passed by and about getting more information about London School of Public Relations - Jakarta. It is important to know these two points because this is our second home. Here we find friends and family that cannot be separated from our mind even after we graduated. Why? Because this is the place where we learn everything, here is the place where we learn how to be the real grown up person and of course this is the place where we re-branding ourselves as a professional.
METAMORPH is a word that comes from “METAMORPHOSIS”. As you know, metamorphosis means a huge transformation in life. Transformation itself means the huge changes in life which brings a transition from an old form to a newer one. What do you think about changes? Some may say that change is good while some don’t think so. Some may say that change could bring better things while others think that consistency is way better.
Change doesn’t happen in one day. It doesn’t happen very quickly like a blink of an eye. Change needs time. Time to think about what needed to be changed or improved, time to grow up a little bit more every day, time to transform, and time to let go the old things and start a new fresh beginning with all of the improvements.
The world has had a lot of changes. We now live in a globalization world that has a lot of changes in the way people live. It is such a crazy way to live because people now cannot live without all of the gadgets, from smart phones to tablet computers. Even man’s work can be done by machine or keeping data in a computerized way. The changes in the world make the human also change in the way they live because it is impossible to reject all of the changes in the world itself.
Yup! Life could be the same as the life cycle of butterfly. Butterfly was not born beautiful. It takes a lot of time and transformation to be a butterfly. Within the last two decades, LSPR Jakarta has reached the top position in communications studies area. London School of Public Relations - Jakarta has been through a lot of changes and improvements. As a student and a family member of LSPR Jakarta, it is important for us to know more about our campus. It is improtant to know about the changes that have happened, the challanges that appeared and the chances for a better future after the metamorphosis. So, are you sure that you really know your campus?
The whole idea about “METAMORPH” actually came out from 2 big ideas: “Think Out of the Loop” and “3C - Change, Challenge, Change”. “Think Out of the Loop” is an idea about seeing things in a deeper and different way, which was focused on our beloved campus, London School of Public Relations - Jakarta. “Think Out of the Loop” is about asking the students to get to know more about our campus by giving the unique information about LSPR. According to the information received from Mr. Andre Ikhsano, M.Si as PUKET II, LSPR STIKOM Jakarta, the Scholarship Program has two different categories, which are classified for over-achieving students, as well as second-rate students. In the year of 2013, the effort of building awareness of the Scholarship Program will be done more often. Indeed, the aim is to tell all of LSPR students about what it requires, as well as how to apply for the program.
So how about the requirements that are needed in scholarship program for second-rate students? Indeed, there are also some aspects that should be followed: 1. PROGRAM
As we know that our campus, The London School of Public Relations, aims to be a role model in communication science development and implementation in Indonesia, as well as to be recognized nationally and internationally. LSPR Jakarta provides high-quality education and prepares high-qualified, skilled graduates who will be competitive internationally. They prepare capable, readymade graduates competent in communication science field. Do you guys know that our campus has new international programs? According to our interview with Mr. Ravi Makhija from International Relations of LSPR, the question is about what international programs that LSPR has now? He said that LSPR
has had different international programs; there are Study Tours, Study Abroad Agreements, Dual Degree Program and Student Exchange Program, which will be explained in better detail. Study Tour is a program where the students go to foreign countries and they will be given one or two weeks of study. In return, they get three of four credits, depending on what kind of program they have. Now LSPR has Study Tours to Europe, United States, Paris, Amsterdam, China, Singapore and Malaysia. Study Abroad program is where our students can go to the countries mentioned earlier for one semester; mostly in the fifth semester. Still, there are some criteria for the student to be able to participate in the program; an exceptional GPA and sufficient

at LSPR proficiency in English. Another criteria is the EIL test which the students have to enroll in. The minimum passing requirement for the test in this semester is 6.0. As we know that the benefit of studying abroad is the capability of going to an international university and study there for one semester, and gets the credit back from you.

REZA KURNIA Assistant Lecturer for Mr Tigor Siahaan (photography subject in LSPR)
Londoners, today we have an opportunity to interview one of LSPR alumni, one of our pride alumni named Reza Kurnia. We talked about change, challenge and chance or 3C, according his opinion. As a LSPR
NA: Ka Reza first question from us, what is the definition of change in your life? R: I think change is a transformation or displacement of a state where we live to get a better condition again in the days to come later
NA: In terms, what changes that you have done in this time? R: So many change that I’ve done, because change is a thing that we did and has been corrected so we can be a better person. For example, as a moslem, we pray 5 times in a day. As a kid, we didn’t understand the meaning of praying but in time, we doing it every time. We know we have to make changes to be better.
NA: Do you have any advice on how to change ourselves? R: Changes must be made in good faith and seriously, because if we are not serious, we would not be able to achieve it.
NA: What’s opinion?
challenge

your
R: Challenge in my opinion is one thing that never disappears from our life and become a spice in our life, because life is so flat without challenge.
LSPRisme | September 2013
NA: What are the challenges that you got recently? R: I happened to be engaged in automotive and auto detailing shop with high-end cost. The challenge is various, like rivals who tried to do unhealthy business competition, but I still face it and Alhamdulillah so far so good. And beyond that I’m also a photographer; it can be seen as a sophisticated job. The price of the camera equipment can’t be reached without a lot of money. The better equipment, the better photographers we become and of course the seniors still exist and can’t be replaced so it’s also a fun challenge, because we are able to hone ourselves to make a better again.
NA: How about to face the challenge? R: My way of dealing challenge is, be brave and be strong both mind and physique because weak people tend to lose easily. Think every challenge as our motivation to rise further, rise and rise!!!
NA: What is the definition of chance in your mind? R: Simple, chance is opportunity of a hope.
7
alumnus, Reza is also known as an assistant lecturer for Mr Tigor Siahaan (photography subject in LSPR). Okay Londoners, let’s check it out.
NA: So far, what opportunities have you received that gave great impact in your life? R: Alhamdulillah, so many opportunities I’ve got. Somehow it’s related to my hobbies like doing arts, photography, playing music in front of people, racing in Sentul, driving around Java and Sumatra Island, see the small part of culture in our country and the culture of other countries and have extensive relationships (friends means a lot of good networking), have a good business, graduated from college and make my parents proud. That’s some part of a chance that I can get. So in this life, we have so many chances, don’t waste it.
NA: Any advice that you can give to all students of LSPR about 3C? R: Life takes a change. The change itself was a process that certainly won’t go smoothly, there’s a challenge in there. From that challenge, we can make it as a motivation to obtain the thing we wanted to achieve. Then, we can see any chance and finally take it so that we can achieve what we want.

Make a CHANGE! an interview with Mr. Taufan Teguh Akbari
Success is a word that would be the biggest
dream for every person in this world. However, each person has different criteria of success, because a person’s success can be seen from different angles and from the extent of one’s effort to achieve success. Success can be achieved if someone is willing to make changes towards the better, and these changes may begin with determining what kind of self-concept to be formed. It can be a strong foundation in raising a brighter future. Nevertheless, it takes patience and seriousness in one’s focus to achieve one’s life target. Such are the words that have been said in the middle of an interview with Mr. Taufan Teguh Akbari, one of the most inspirational lectures of London School of Public Relations, Jakarta. His experiences in the field of education, being a youth consultant, as well as a public speaker, has proven to use that as a young man, he can reach every dream that he wants with desire and action. In his daily life, he is known as a humble, active and inspiring person. The establishment of such character is not easily and quickly developed. Because, according to Mr. Taufan, it takes considerable effort and hard work to achieve success in life. As someone who is often associated with youth, Mr. Taufan has his own concept in understanding the meaning of change. In his perspective, change defined as a process of how a person transforms themselves in order to achieve their objective that had previously been determined on the basis of strong will. “Nowadays, most young people have an instantaneous mindset, and are reluctant to go through a period of success towards maturity. In fact, such is the real learning process in life.” said Mr. Taufan. The point is, if we really want to change, we must have the will to enjoy the process of change. It is only from that point that we will be able to absorb a wide range of knowledge that we need presently or in the future. The joy and sorrow in undergoing changes always happens to us. When we face failures right in front of us, for example, our emotions take part to influence us to complete our process of change. It also happened to Mr. Taufan. “I have been there and
Gradually, he began to learn to control his emotions. He forced himself to be able to not be defeated by emotions, until finally he was able to manage his emotions and always thinking clearly when facing temptation. There is a way, and the way to control our emotion is to simply think clearly, focus on our goals, and never let emotions block our goals in life. According to Mr. Taufan, the formation of selfidentity, including self-introduction and what will be done in the future, should be developed since a person is in their productive age. Moreover, the mental should be trained in dealing with failures, trials, and responsibility in order to become a strong mental and characters that are not easily influenced by surroundings. “A simple question, but makes us often as ourselves is, ‘what do we really want?’. Nowadays, people talk about passion, but sometimes they are not even sure about what they really want. For example, they do things in their life, but they did not focus. That is why I want to advise our youth, to help them find their own way, a focused way; so that in this young age at least they know what they want and can focus on that.”

academic activities. Therefore, LSPR always tries to balance both academic and non-academic activities for students. “We believe that both academic and non-academic activities are important for students for they can make great achievements and it will be great for their future”, Mr. Iman said. In this modern era, many organizations are seeking the graduates with not only great achievements in the academic report, but organizations are looking for those who were active back in their campus. Why? Mr. Iman explained that the organizations need the people who already have experiences that are needed in a working zone because working is about team work, leadership, and socializing. As a matter of fact, those priceless experiences can only be got by joining the non academic activities in campus. Because of that demand, LSPR Jakarta provides both Academic Transcript and NonAcademic Transcript that will be given for the students after they graduate. The Academic Transcript is a report paper of the achievements of a student after 4 years of studying in LSPR. Besides, the Non-Academic Transcript is a report paper of the achievements of a student who is active or get involved in the non-academic activities. Mr. Iman added, “These two transcripts will help the graduates or alumni to get the job they want because it is an added value that is not being given by the other universities”. Last but not least, Mr. Iman said that many successful alumni are those who were active in the campus, including those who were joining clubs and LSPR Student League. “It is a proof and a great example for those who are willing to create a great future for their life”, Mr. Iman said. Are you interested in joining the LSPR Student League? So, here is some information about LSPR Student League that you don’t want to miss.

hat comes to your mind when you hear “LSPR Student League”? Do you know what is it? Do you know what is it about or who is in the LSPR Student League itself? It is better late than never to get to know this organization in our campus. LSPR Student League is an organization whose members are the students who happen to be the officers of their club, which means LSPR Student League is focused on the non-academic activities in LSPR and taking care of all the clubs’ activities. Do you know how many clubs are there in LSPR by the year 2013? LSPR Student League has grown year by year until today and now has 18 clubs in it. There have been a lot of changes and improvements inside the LSPR Student League. Well, the real question is, why does every students should get involved in the non-academic activities in our campus? Mr. Imanuel Hutagalung, as the Chief Club Coordinator of LSPR Student League and PUKET III, has a list of answers about it. According to Mr. Iman, LSPR Student League happens to be different to any other Student Executive Board. Here in LSPR, students are asked to have great achievements in academic activities as well as in the non-academic activities. Several studies in Harvard show that students become more active when they join the non academic activities in their campus. It is simply because students are one the campus’ pillars which mean if there is no active student in the campus, it is not a campus, and the non-academic activities can be done by joining the clubs or organizations in campus. In some universities, non-academic activities are not as important as the academic activities. On the contrary, LSPR believes that each student have their own capabilities. Some are good in academic activities while some are good in the non-

NEW MAJOR IN LSPR? What they said about new majors in LSPR curriculums... International Relations
Steven IR 15-1C It’s good because with the presence of International Relations, that means LSPR really wants to develop a better communication education standard in Indonesia. Which we could see that by opening an International Relations major, LSPR delivers its communication curriculum not only in the national level but also at the international level.
Sheila IR 15-1C
Aditya IR 15-1C I really look forward to the International Relations major because from the result of research that I did, Mr. Andre Iksano told me that our International Relations has been through study of matures. He also told me that our International Relations major will become a breaktrough because we have studied communication as part of International Relations and the lecturers are also competent.
It’s a surprise to hear about the new major at first, but I am sure that LSPR has already looked into this major first, so it’s certainly of some credibility. I have hopes on this new major, because it means LSPR knows that in this era of globalization we need to learn how to communicate well, not only in the national level but also in the international field of communication.
Digital Media Communication & Advertising
Iren IR 15-1C
Boim ADV 15-1C
Erick ADV 15-1C
I am excited about International Relations, because from the subjects that are offered I wish I could get more helpful courses for my future working prospects, so I can work in international scene.
I personally don’t really agree with the change. What I wish is that we could have introduced the course as just ‘Advertising’ to people. Because, if we look carefully we can see that there are many advantages and more job opportunities in the field of advertising.
If the Advertising major changes its name into Digital Media Communication & Advertising, then I think there will not be a major difference between LSPR with other campuses. We have known that Advertising has been one of LSPR’s main majors for years, and is also one of the reasons I choose that major.

of Falentina Cotton Franzeska Falentina Cotton is one of the students studying in The London School of Public Relations, batch 14, with Public Relations as her preferred major. The Jakarta-born girl tends to keep herself busy with various kinds of activity, such as being a Public Relations Coordinator for the Koko Cici Organization, a Freelance Presenter, being in charge of PR and Marketing of a fashion business which she manages herself, as well as an assistant lecturer. Anyen, her nickname she is usually called by, was the 1st winner of the Jakarta Koko Cici Competition in 2011. She started her career as a presenter when she was 18 years old. She has succeeded and has professionally developed since then because of many processes she had passed. Reflecting back, she now feels proud of her achievements, right from when she didn’t get paid enough for the first time until being paid with the fee that she deserves professionally. It proves that she has credibility in this field. Then what about her childhood dreams? When she was still in elementary school, she had wanted to become a doctor. As time passed by, she found her passion in the field of communication, especially focusing in PR. She wishes that she would become a PR consultant, and also be involved with the government. In her young, successful life, she definitely has faced many challenges. One of them is keeping her highest standards of performance. This is because if something bad happens, it would ruin her positive image. Moreover, as the 1st winner of Koko Cici competition, she has to apply those principles to her everyday life. How come she got the chance to be a participant of the Jakarta Koko Cici Competition? At first, she has doubts to join the competition. “At the beginning, after I joined Mr. and Ms. LSPR, I was recommended by one of my friend to follow Koko Cici Jakarta competition 2011. Actually, I was confused because I’m a tomboyish girl, and at that time I also had very short, colorful hair.” Regardless of what she had looked like, she still believed in herself to follow the whole process of the competition, and tried to be brave in being involved and she eventually joined. The unexpected had happened, and the 1st place was awarded for her, along with her partner from Universitas Indonesia. The girl with the full name Franzeska Falentina Cotton is assertive of the fact that every human needs change. Besides that, the circumstances of nowadays give further cause to this fact. The terms of change is very common right now. In addition, humans are creatures who always develop and adapt, and ‘out of date’ is an appropriate term for those who resist and reject change.
There are many principles that she holds regarding change, which are commitment, consistency, as well as consequence. First of all, commitment in changing means, that people are ready to face something new, and still consistent in doing that commitment. Change does not always result in a positive impact, a negative one is still possible to happen. That’s why every human being ought to prepare for every consequence that may happen. As the one of LSPR’ student college, Anyen gives special tips for Londoners, relevant to handle and manage change:
1. The will from within to adapt and change 2. Avoiding self-withdrawal 3. Being yourself
In addition, there is a message for Londoners. She said that knowledge is the most priority for college students. Money is also important, but it’s not permanent, unlike knowledge that could last your lifetime. “Don’t let the world steal your feeling, keep the love, faith, and live it,” she said before closed our conversation.

This initial step was not easy. “Many times, I was arguing with rich people. I was called crazy. Often, I was interrogated and arrested by officials, “recalls chief Farmers Group Environment (KTLH) Sangga Buana he formed in 1998. Book Review
NEVERWHERE Richard Mayhew’s life which runs smoothly went extraordinarily weird when he stops to help a mysterious young girl who appears before him; bleeding and weakened. Richard begins to realize the consequences of his actions. He appears to have become invisible; he loses his job, where no one seems to recognize him, and his apartment is rented out to other people. Things getting more bizarre when Richard entered the ‘underworld’ of London, called London Below, where Door – the ‘world’ where the vagrant girl he found bleeding in London pavement lived. Richard is convinced that Door can help him and bring him back to his old life. But Richard is not the only one whose life has taken a sudden turn. A dreadful incident also happened to Door. Her family was killed by two assasins, Mr. Croup and Mr. Vandemar. Door didn’t know what caused it to happen and she wants to know the reason. Door and Richard try to find the truth. The truth about the murderer of Door’s family and to find a way back to Richard’s ‘so-so’ life. Neil Gaiman described the journey of Door and Richard in a great detail, the horror, monsters, betrayal, reciprocation, barter, pettiness, and all the things beyond logic accompanying the trip. Following Door and Richard’s journey is a fantasy tour combined with history. This book tells us about two different worlds of London; the upside and the downside, that are colliding with each other. Every character in this book is actually given with an opportunity to choose whether they want to live in above or below side of London. But once they chose to live in London Below, it will be less likely for them to return to London Above. This is what happened with Richard. He was thrown to London Under. The whole place in London is inhabited and lived in London Below. This book tells us about friendship, sacrifice, courage, and any other important messages highlighted inside. It tells us that sometimes change comes suddenly and often leads to surprise. But as times goes by, we can take advantage of the opportunities and get through it well.

Career Centre

All About Career Centre Career Centre is the centre for academic and career in The London School of Public Relations. Basically, the Career Centre functions to support, facilitate, or provide assistance to students, alumni, and even companies (i.e. the students’ potential employers). Career Centre achieves new graduates perhaps for the first two years in the development of their career management skills. If new graduates start establishing their career, they start to know themselves better. They will have ambitions, objectives, and before graduating in semester 7, Career Centre will guide and support students along the way and take the question to the students “how will you plan your career” as well as making them ask themselves “how do I see myself?”. Career centre can also help find out where students are later on with the way of counseling, to find out “Are you in the right major? And are you in the right place?” and so on. Therefore, the students know where they are able to work at. The Career Centre was established in 2003. It started when Ms. Katrina, the Head of International Programs and Partnership, established various programs (for example, Seminars and other such programs) in this department. After a number of years, Industry is one of Career Centre’s stakeholders. Basically, Career Centre has to know what it can expect from London School graduates and what it needs, and that’s why Mrs. Prita Kemal Gani decided to establish this Career Centre as part of the commitment of making London School a better institution. As a part of London School, its students are very lucky, because if we were to compare with other university, the Career Centre in London School has spesific programs; it facilitate everything for the students, especially preparing them for industry. It means Career Centre establish good relationships, not only for the short-term but also for the long-term. There are many programs that are available at the Career Center. Firstly is the Recruitment or Job Placements.

The Career Centre has to ensure that it gives counselling to all students from semester one up until they graduate. Second is an internship, which is a part of the university’s curiculum. Career Centre has two kinds of Internship: International Work Experience and Local Internship. International Work Experience is a study tour which is equivalent to 3 subjects worth of credits, such as study tours to Singapore and Malaysia. If the students have followed the International Work Experience, they don’t have to take internships anymore. Local Internship means the classroom will be in the office it will be in the company, without lecturers or guidance. The one who will evaluate and provide mentorship to each student is the company. And they will evaluate whether you have the right skill, mindset, and attitude. There are requirements for applying for internships because not all students can take it. Except for international internships, the one that has huge number of students are those taking local internships. The students must have four outstanding subject grades, and then the Career Centre looks at their GPA, which has to be at least above 2.0. Because the company don’t know the students, so the reference for the company is their GPA. Third, Career Centre has Industry Company Linkages program, it will establish linkages with the Indsutry through MOU (Memorandum of Understanding), Join Partnership, and Career Centre has Corporate Partners to take care good relationship. The objective of all program is Career Centre has to be aware of the need and requirements of the industry. Because, London School produce competent Human Capital, not produce the product. Career Centre also must follow the Industry, because the Industry always upgrade day by day like a technology, and a practical is one of the important thing now. Last but not least, Career Centre has an interesting program that is considered supplemetary activities, called Experiencal Educational Courses. The purpose of this program to support the students with this experiecal courses. Before graduate, there will also be a Career Guidance Seminar, it means to enhance students career like skill, knowledge, and competency. In this program, they have two different courses, Professional courses and Personality courses. Experiencal Educational Courses is the most important course and its course is more to practice. “Not what you say, but how you say it”, said Mrs. Aina Lyn.
